Wednesday 13th January Wednesday 10th February Wednesday 9th March
Applicant Visit Day timetable Each Applicant Visit Day has a set timetable. Wednesdays begin with registration at 12 noon. Already visited an Open Day? We think you’ll still find it useful to come to an Applicant Visit Day because it’s your chance to hear from staff and students in more depth. How to prepare / what to bring You will need to bring along three pieces of personal identification so we can begin to process Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) disclosures. This could be your passport, driving licence (UK full and provisional) and your birth certificate. Contact us If you have any additional queries about the Applicant Visit Days, or questions concerning your application please contact Central Admissions on +44 (0)121 331 6295, or email [email protected]
Outline of the day’s activities
For both courses the following activities will take place during the day: Course Overview by the Programme Leader: You will receive an overview of the course, the module content, learning opportunities and assessment strategies. This talk is for parents / guardians and applicants.
Managing Transitions – How to support new undergraduates: This presentation designed for parents and/or guardians, draws on case studies that will explore what new undergraduates experience on the course, what the challenges are and how parents and/or guardians and families can support them. In addition to this the Personal Tutor system will be explained and features of support available to students will be considered. This is an opportunity for parents and/or guardians to discuss aspects of student life at the University with tutors on the team, whilst applicants are carrying out some taster sessions. For Early Childhood Studies applicants you will be invited to take part in the following taster sessions:
Session 1: Exploring Perceptions of Childhood (practical workshop): The starting point for any course that explores and examines Early Childhood has to be what values and beliefs we have about children. This practical workshop will, with tutor support, give applicants a chance to reflect on what they understand by childhood and what society thinks about childhood. This workshop will mirror some of the teaching strategies that are implemented into the course and give applicants a taster of the sort of work they will be in involved with on the course. Session 2: Placement Experiences (meet current students who will share their experiences): Applicants will find out more about how placement fits into the programme and what expectations are in terms of professionalism and work based learning. Current students will share their experiences, and demonstrate how placement has enabled links to be made between theory and practice. Professional case studies will be explored to illustrate the range of careers available to graduates of the course. For Children and Integrated Professional Care applicants you will be invited to take part in the following taster sessions: Session 1: Contemporary Issues: An exploration of perceptions of children’s services and their roles and responsibilities within society Children’s services often make news headlines for the wrong reasons. This activity will enable applicants to discuss with tutor support some of the current issues facing staff in this area, as applicants reflect on society's beliefs about children and young people and the services that support them. Session 2: Case study exploring children, families and integrated professional care This workshop will mirror some of the teaching strategies that are implemented into the course and give applicants a taster of the sort of work they will be involved with on the course. Current students will be able to support applicants in analysing the case studies and in demonstrating how a multi-agency approach enables the needs of the most vulnerable children to be met. This work shop will also explore the range of employment opportunities available to graduates of the course.
