theme descriptionFifty-one years on, the U.P. Economics Society stays on the course paved by its earliest members. Fueled by a passion for service, the organization has overcome speed bumps and roadblocks, emerging more dynamic after every obstacle.
An endless, open road of opportunities is before us. We are endowed with a high-octane membership, a flourishing alumni network, and strong partnerships with our benefactors and the communities we serve. Our endeavors are recognized in and outside the University for their reputable quality. Our cause is fostered by an environment that values our socio-civic nature.
We can choose to run our previous pace. But in the half-century of our existence, we never settled for anything too easy – we were never contented with anything but the best.
Instead, fifty-one years on, we choose to switch to higher gears and set new standards for ourselves. We choose to break old limits and risk more. We choose to strive for speeds we’ve never reached, mindful of the possibility of failure, yet confident that new challenges will bring out the greatest in us.
Fifty-one years on, we shift into OvErdrIvE.
message fromthe presidentWelcome to the UP Economics Society Application Process!
Congratulations for having completed your first 15 tambay hours! So how have the first 15 been? I hope you have made the most of them by getting to know not only the members but more importantly what EcoSoc is all about.
EcoSoc is more than just an organization. It’s a home away from home. It’s a place where you’d never feel alone. I’ve al-ways felt welcome inside its doors and with the amazing indi-viduals that comprise it. I’ve made friends in EcoSoc that have changed my life in more ways than one; those friends that will last forever. I hope that you and your co-applicants enjoy and create memories of your own because these memories are those that you’ll cherish forever.
With that I wish you all the best! Good luck on your application process! Make the most of it because EcoSoc gives you the stage to improve yourself holistically, but also the chance to touch so many lives.
“Love EcoSoc and Ecosoc will love you back.”
Yours,Ogie
message fromthe memcom chairWelcome Future Ecosocer! (I hope that made you smile!) Yes, in a few months you will be an official member of the Society but before that, you will have to undergo some-thing like a “training” like before a race AKA a very fun and exciting application process! vroom vroom!
EcoSoc for me is a different kind of race. Like any race, there is a starting line where you are given all the mechanics and teams are assigned AKA the application require-ments and the committees you belong to. remember the pit stops during the Apps’ Orientation? The pit stops in a race are the events of the different committees that will help you adjust and improve your relation-ship with your co -applicants and members of the organization. The last pit stop is the Induction Ball, where you will officially become part of the biggest family in Econ. Others mistake this event as your final des-tination but in truth, the real race will just begin. What’s unique about this race is that it has no finish line. Once you become part of the organization, you will realize why. It’s true when people say, “Once an EcoSocer, always an EcoSocer.”
Love your Sigsheet like it’s your brand new top of the line super shiny car! Treat it like your baby! The Secretariat commit-tee made this Sigsheet with love so take good care of it :). It is a mini manual that will guide you during the app process. The theme, history, app requirements, required events, committees and all the members of the EcoSoc clan can be found in here. After your 15 hours of Tambay, your next goal is to get as many signatures as you can and complete the 50 hours of Tambay. don’t be shy to go to the members and ask for their signature okay? Who would have thought that the names on my sigsheet when I was an app are now my good friends in EcoSoc! The sigsheet will help you introduce your-self to the members, trust me on that!
Continue what you have started. There are times where you’ll think twice about pursuing your app process. That’s normal because at first glance, the requirements seem overwhelming. It is through the events of the org where friendships and relationships are built. By the end of your application process, you’ll notice that you have formed bonds with the members.
Overdrive Apps is what your app batch will be known. Make your legacy as a batch. remember that you have your co-applicants with you. You are all in this together (HSM 1, 2006). Treat the Tambayan as your home in UP. You also have your GW family who will make you feel loved and complete! Awww!Memcom will be there with you, together will all the committees at every “pit stop”. One of our main tasks is to assist you in your journey through our events and services. don’t hesitate to approach any Memcom member anytime! We’d be glad to help you out! :)
Execom, like Memcom is watching over the members and the applicants. Please do not think twice approaching any of us! We all committed to serving The Society. We promise to take care of you, the future assets of EcoSoc.
I am very excited to embark on this thrill-ing journey with you! I guarantee you that it is all worth it. You’re in for the best ride of your life! Good luck and have a blast!don’t forget to SMILE, Janna : )
the ecosocgrand historyThe U.P. Economics Society is a socio-civic organization composed of almost two hundred Economics and Business Economics majors in the University of the Philippines. For 52 years now, it has flourished in the School of Economics, keeping the flame of the Grand tradition alive.
U.P. Ecosoc was born in 1958 when a group of students from the College of Business Administration decided to form an organization that would serve their fellow students and the community at-large. The Society is known for its various activities, all of which aim for the well being of its members, and are done in the name and spirit of SErvICE, EXCELLENCE and TrAdITION. These include company tours, symposia, workshops, various sports events, variety shows, and many others.
More importantly, the Society holds weekly tutorials for Grade Six students of Balara Elementary School, weekly daycare sessions for children of Pook ricarte, semestral free clinics for variouscommunities, collaborations with other socio-civic organizations in and outside the University, and visits to various social welfareinstitutions. The Society also operates a scholarship program. By means of the UP Economics Society Scholarship Fund (ESSF), which is maintained by our semestral fundraisers and alumni support, seven deserving students are able to go to high school.
Throughout the five decades of its existence, U.P. Ecosoc and its achievements have been duly recognized. It is the recipient of the now-defunct Wenceslao vinzon’s Award for Most OutstandingOrganization, the Gawad Chancellor for Most OutstandingOrganization, the Alpha Phi Omega Oblation for Best Organization, and the Presidential Award for Outstanding Organization, among many other distinctions.

THE ECOSOC SONG
2. Ang bawat hangarin ay kayang tuparin.
Wala nang pipigil sa atin hangga’t mayroong mga bituin.

The race is on, and who’s covering the event? ECHOES is the official publication of U.P. Ecosoc. Echoes documents the Society’s undertakings and publishes opinions, features articles and artwork. This committee also manages Ecosoc’s various websites, and holds activities such as literary nights that allow members to express their artistic side.
Even with the nicest cars, you still need connections to get around. Here’s where the EXTErNAL AFFAIrS COMMITTEE comes in. As our “window” to the outside world, Externals updates the Society on what’s going on in the university and the country. It communicates and works with JPES, PhilCES, and other orgs. It also holds symposia, talks and company tours for Ecosocers.

committee internshipEver wondered how it feels like to be part of another committee? You are required to undergo one “committee internship” during your application process. This is an opportunity for you toexperience a different committee, to help out in a different kind of event.
Guidelines:
1. The internship you choose must not be from your “home” committee. 2. When you have chosen, approach the respective Execom in charge of that internship. 3. Approach them as early as possible, as some internships have limited slots. 4. Ask the Memcom Chair for an Internship Evaluation Form. 5. When your internship is over, don’t forget to give the Execom in charge of the internship your Internship Evaluation Form.

Tambay Week (Feb 15-19) will be the most colorful week of the application process. Why? Well that is be-cause there’s a “happening” each day. Also, 10 tambay hours are expected from you. Sounds time-consuming? We think not because Aubrey Gloriani a.k.a. Tambay King had over 60 tambay hours in just one week! If he can, why can’t you? So, come on, enjoy the company of the members and be the next Tambay King or Queen!
