1. Introduction

The versatile Application Board 2.0 in combination with the development desktop software is built for demonstration and evaluation of Bosch Sensortec sensors. The Application Board 2.0 has the following features:

• Controls the sensor functionality on the connected sensor shuttle board with the help of an integrated microcontroller.

• Establishes communication between a PC and the sensor.

• All pins of the sensor are easily accessible. This allows a precise evaluation of the sensor using Bosch Sensortec development desktop software as well as measurement of the power consumption by different power supply chains (via J504 for VDD3.3 and J505 for VDDIO3.3).

• Automatically detects which sensor is plugged to the system. The embedded firmware

can automatically configure all the required settings for proper communication.

• In field firmware upgrade, please refer to Development Desktop 2.0 User Manual (Document number: BST-DHW-SD012-00) for detailed info.

Two versions of Application Board 2.0 board are available:

• One version is with Bluetooth module (Application Board 2.0 BT); please refer to

Application Board 2.0 Bluetooth user manual for detailed info (BST-DHW-AN007-01).

• Another one is without Bluetooth module (Application Board 2.0).

2.2 Application Board 2.0 ICs 2.2.1 SAM4S16C The SAM4S16C microcontroller is a flash microcontroller based on high performance 32-bit ARM Cortex-M4 RISC processor. Its maximum speed is 120 MHz, and features up to 128kB integrated SRAM and 1024kB Flash. Diversified peripherals, such as SPI, TWI (subset of I2C protocol) USART etc, satisfy the requirements of Bosch sensors. 2.2.2 LP3947 The LP3947 is a complete charge management system that safely charges and maintains a Li-Ion battery from either USB power source or AC adaptor. Input Voltage Range is 4.3V to 6.0V, 1% Charger Voltage Accuracy Over 0°C ≤ TJ ≤ 85°C; charge current range is 100mA to 750mA in charger mode and 100mA to 500mA in USB mode. This part can only be used when a battery is attached, if there is no battery connected on the board, the end of charging LED indicator will be green all the time. 2.2.3 AAT1157 The AAT1157 is a step-down switching converter with input voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V and 1A output capability. It works at 1 MHz switching frequency and Initial Accuracy is ±1%. Synchronous Rectification and 110mΩ RDS (ON) of integrated MOSFET make its efficiency up to 95%. With a shutdown current of less than 1.0μA it a good power supply for portable devices. 2.2.4 REG102G The REG102G supplies 250mA of output current with a typical dropout voltage of 150mV. The REG102G regulator optimizes stability and transient response with low ESR. It has very low output noise (typically 28μVrms for VOUT = 3.3V with CNR = 0.01μF). In shutdown, current drops to 0.01μA typically.

2.3 Input / output connectors 2.3.1 Power The board can be powered by external USB connector (J101), EX_POWER_3.3V (J601) or attached Li-Ion battery via connector (J105 or J106). The configuration of these three power supplier are:

1. External USB connector (J101): S101 ON and J107 selects DC_OUT_3.3V; 2. EX_POWER_3.3V (J601): S101 Off and J107 selects EX_POWER_3.3V_IN, J104

selects +3.3V; 3. Internal Li-Ion battery: S101 ON and J107 select DC_OUT_3.3V, when USB port power

off. 2.3.2 RS232 UART0 of SAM4S16C has been assigned as a debug port which can be used to log system running debug message; the definition of extension connector (CON6) has been listed below.

The ERASE pin is used to reinitialize the Flash content (and some of its NVM bits) to an erased state (all bits read as logic level 1). A pull-down resistor of 100k to GND is integrated, so that it can be left unconnected for normal operations.
