    GUIDELINES AND CONDITIONS

    FUND:

MAST calls for applications to upgrade and improve boating facilitiesfrom MASTs annual Recreational Boating Fund throughout the year.

The funding range is generally between $1,000 and $100,000 per projectand applicants are encouraged to seek additional funding, if requiredfrom the facility owner.

Projects will be selected by May of this year which will enable planningapprovals to be granted and some construction completed by Christmas.

In excess of $9.1 million dollars has been spent on improvements torecreational boating facilities and services since 1998, these have beenfunded by recreational boating registrations and licence fees. LocalCouncils and other facility owners have also contributed. A full list ofthese projects can be viewed on our website at www.mast.tas.gov.au.

    WHO CAN APPLY?

Any individual, council, organisation, registered club or statutory body.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

Project design will need to comply with the relevant Australian

Standard and be commensurate with demand. MAST recommendsengineering advice is sought for larger projects.

Funds will only be made available for the provision of public boatingfacilities accessible to the community at all times.

Boating facilities do not include public amenities (eg toilet blocks),

    car parking or access roads.

Project will need to meet all relevant planning and development

    approvals.

A realistic and detailed price for the cost of works must be submittedwith the submission.

All facilities will require an owner who shall be responsible forany ongoing maintenance on the facility. (MAST will not take

ownership of any new or existing facilities unless already owned

    by the Authority).

Applications that do not meet the assessment criteria will notbe accepted.

    PROCESS:

Applications are now invited and can be submitted at any timethroughout the year. However, to fit each years budget cycle applicationsreceived before 31st March will be considered in May of that year.Applications received after 31st March will not be considered until Maythe following year so submit your applications early in the year!

Where necessary site inspections are organised with proponents of

applications to discuss their proposal further.

Public Forum meetings will be advertised and held in regions around

the State, in early May, to help prioritise projects for that region.

A short list of projects for each region is compiled and forwarded to the

MAST Board for approval after the public forums.

Letters will be forwarded to all proponents advising of their success

    or otherwise.

At the public forum meetings, the proponent will be required todemonstrate the following:

    - Clearly establish a need or demand for the facility and outline

the contribution the project will make to recreational boating in

Tasmania, the region and the immediate area.

    - Enhancement of boating safety and enjoyment.

    - Economic viability.

    - Additional funding opportunities have been examined.
