1. INTRODUCTION
The registration of Authorised persons is a legal requirement of the Department of Labour to enable compliance with the OSHA act. It is necessary for any Authorised person working on Fire Detection Systems or Gas Extinguishing Systems to be registered by the SAQCC Fire. SAQCC Fire is mandated to conduct this task.
2. Objective
It is the objective of SAQCC Fire to provide competency levels for all Authorised persons working in these areas of expertise.
3. REGISTRATION
Registration with SAQCC Fire for those persons operating in the areas of gas suppression is provided at 4 levels.
Level 1 Pipe Fitter
Level 2 Installer
Level 3 Commissioner / Serviceman
Level 4 Designer
4. REQUIREMENTS FOR REGISTRATION
Any person may register at any one level for gas suppression.
If a person is already registered for a fire category with SAQCC Fire he may also register for one level of gas suppression.
To qualify for registration, one must meet the requirements laid down in the “Skills document” attached to the application form.
From inception until one year (twelve months) one may register under the Initial Registration Clause.

5. INITIAL REGISTRATION CLAUSE
An affidavit must be completed by the applicant and his/her company manager that the applicant is proficient in the associated tasks listed for that level in the skills document.
A selected SAQCC Fire Detection & Suppression committee will vet the application for approval.
The Initial Registration Clause will expire one year (twelve months) from date of inception. All applications and renewals after that date will be subject to training and /or examination requirements to prove competency.
6. CONTINUED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
All persons applying for re registration after the sunset period of twelve months, will be subject to training requirements and /or examination to prove competency.
All registered persons will be subject to a review every 3 years to ensure Ongoing Professional Development is maintained.
7. FEES
Fees for registration of a gas suppression Authorised person is on a sliding scale as shown below:
Piper: R400 Installer: R600 Commissioner: R900 Designer: R1000
DUAL REGISTRATION Should an Authorised person wish to register for more than one category at a time (i.e. Detection and Gas) with SAQCC Fire the second registration fee will be charged at R200 per annum. (The highest level applied for, plus the additional R200)
8. REGISTRATION APPROVAL
Applications for registration as a gas suppression Authorised person will be vetted by a selection committee appointed by SAQCC Fire Detection & Suppression division on a monthly basis (your application could take 6 weeks to process)
On acceptance of the application the applicant will be notified in writing and be informed for which level he/she has been registered and be supplied with a registration card and number.
The successful applicants details will be added to the SAQCC Fire Detection & Suppression register and posted on the SAQCC Fire web site.

9. REGISTRATION CARD
All successful applicants will receive a registration card. The registration cards are printed with the Authorised person’s name, photograph, registration number and a colour coded stripe indicating which sector of the fire industry he is registered in.
The following colour coding applies
Red -‐ Fire detection
Green -‐ Gas extinguishing
The red and green striped cards will be printed with a level number for which level the Authorised person is registered in.
A card may carry more than one colour stripe for Authorised persons registered in more than one category.
The Authorised person must carry this badge with him at all times whilst working on a gas suppression system
10. DURATION OF REGISTRATION
The Initial Registration Clause will terminate one year (twelve months) from date of inception
Registrations are conducted on an annual basis and from 2013 onward will be based on training requirements and/or examination to ensure competency within that level of grading.
Registration is an annual process.
Every 3 years registered Authorised persons will be subject to re-‐examination to comply with Continued Professional Development requirements.
11. CODE OF CONDUCT
Accompanying each application form is a code of conduct that must be read, agreed and signed by each applicant.
12. DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURES
Should it be reported in writing that any registered SAQCC Fire Detection & Suppression Authorised person is not conducting himself within the Code of Conduct he will be subject to disciplinary procedures as laid down by the SAQCC Fire.
The SAQCC Fire reserves the right to discipline any Authorised person within the Code of Conduct and Constitution of the SAQCC Fire and withdraw the Authorised person if found guilty.

Please note that by filling in these forms and signing them you are making a legal declaration. If it is found that any information is false or incorrect, the SAQCC Fire will apply such legal action as it deems necessary.
The original forms may be posted or delivered to the SAQCC Fire offices with ALL supporting documentation. They can also be emailed - [email protected], but the photo must be sent as a JPEG. Failure to fulfill the above criteria will result in your application being rejected.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
The SAQCC Fire registers the individual Authorised person and not the company he is working for, therefore each application form must be completed in full and submitted together with the above documentation.

This document provides description of the various levels that a person may register with the SAQCC- Fire for gas suppression and the skills he/she must have to register at that level.
A person may register for fire detection in ONE of the following categories:
Level 1 Pipe fitter
Level 2 Installer
Level 3 Commissioner
Level 4 Designer
The applicant must complete one of the following skills level documents, sign it and get it countersigned by his/her company manager.
This document must be included in the application.
The Code of Ethics document must be signed by all applicants and attached to your application.

LEVEL 1 - PIPE FITTER The pipe fitter shall conduct work for a registered business.
The pipe fitter shall have 3 months site experience on the following, or proven similar experience.

The designer shall be in possession of, and have a proficient knowledge of, an approved hydraulic design package and be in possession of a training certificate for that design software.

As a registered authorised person with SAQCC Fire engaged in the field of gas suppression I recognise my responsibility to maintain high standards of reliability and integrity in the application of the life safety and property protection systems provided by myself.
