Submit your COMPLETE application and ALL paperwork, attached with a paperclip (Unofficial transcript, essay, current photo), to the TE Office, SH 208, by 5:00 pm on the due date. 7. Sign up for an interview with a panel of Teacher Education Faculty in the office when turning in your application. The sign-up sheet will be located on a clipboard just outside the TE Office.

TEACHER EDUCATION ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Candidates seeking admission to the Teacher Education Program must satisfy the following:

A. Candidates may take the Oklahoma General Education Test (OGET) and successfully make a cut-off score established by the Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation of 240. Candidates may also have a composite score of 22 on the ACT with the writing section included. Or a SAT passing score of 1120 including a five (5) on reading, four (4) on analysis, and five (5) on writing. Paperwork showing the passing scores on the ACT or SAT must be submitted with the application.

AND

The criteria for approval to which the Teacher Education Committee refers when considering Applications for Admission to Teacher Education are:

1. Successful completion of the freshman year (36 hours).

2. Completion of an Application for Teacher Education during the sophomore year. (Applications must be submitted for approval before the beginning of the junior year).

3. Attainment of an overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5.

4. Completion of the English Composition courses (ENGL 1153/1163) and Introduction to Speech Communication (COMS 1092) with grades of at least a "C". Should a student make an unsatisfactory grade in any of these courses, he/she must repeat the course and earn a grade of at least "C".

5. Written expression of interest in teaching as demonstrated by descriptions of prior experiences and activities.

6. An interview showing evidence of personal traits that suggest potential for working with youth, with parents, and with the other constituencies of a teacher.

7. Recommendations from the Faculty Advisor and three other college professors who know the student.

8. A written positive assessment from the faculty team of "interviewers".

It should be noted that all students accepted into the OBU Teacher Education program are required to maintain a 2.5 GPA. If, following admission, the GPA drops below a 2.5, the student will be placed on probation continuing in Teacher Education courses for one semester. If, however, at the end of the following semester, the student has not achieved a 2.5 GPA, he/she will be dropped from the Teacher Education program.

Committee, which includes two student members and two local public school personnel. The entire TE

Committee will have access to your transcript and other pertinent records unless you specify otherwise.

2) Meeting or exceeding the selection criteria does not guarantee admittance to the Program.

3) Periodic background checks are required. Information obtained may cause dismissal from the Program.

4) Conditionally Admitted candidates will have the term they are admitted to the Program, the following

short term (January or summer), and the next regular term (spring or fall) to complete the requirements

necessary to move from Conditional to Unconditional Admit status.

5) Applicants to the Program are required to meet with an Interview Panel of Teacher Education

faculty members. Failure to appear for the interview will negate admittance to the Program. Please

sign up for an interview time in the TE Office (SH208) when you submit your application.

6) Applicants may appeal a decision in writing to the Teacher Education Committee through the Director

of the Teacher Education Division or request their advisor make appeal to the committee on their behalf.
