APPLIED FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT Value Proposition For those potential participants without a formal finance background, this programme is an essential prerequisite for promotion to senior levels in their organisation. The Applied Financial Management course enables employees to participate and cope with the complexities of financial decisions and long-term financial commitments, which are an integral part of every business. Decisions to hire or fire, produce, purchase or sell assets, and forge strategic alliances are all financial in nature. Heightened competition, technological changes, volatility inflation, interest rates, taxation, foreign exchange rates and worldwide economic uncertainty must be dealt with on a daily basis. Participants are given the tools to obtain a strategic perspective on the financial management of their businesses. Target Audience Professionals, managers, business analysts and technical specialists concerned with the financial management and performance of the company and/ or its divisions and departments will benefit from the programme. Programme Duration and Structure The programme is offered on a modular basis consisting of five modules of three days spread over a five-month period. Programme Certification This programme is offered as a competence programme and is assessed through examinations and individual and group assignments. A certificate of competence is awarded on successful completion of the programme. financially analyse a business or business unit, including budgeting and ratio analysis

• Review and translate an income statement and balance sheet

• Assemble present and future value calculations• Recognise improvements and application of the

working capital of a company

Programme ConvenorJustin Spencer-Young

Justin holds a BSc (Building) (Wits) and an MBA (Wits) and is completing his PhD in the field of valuation. Between 1996 and 2001, he worked as a project manager in the commercial property and construction sector. In 2003, he started his own corporate finance consultant business and has been lecturing in the field of accounting and finance since 2006.
