AUTOMATIC PROCESS!

THE APPLICANT MUST APPLY FOR BOTH SALARY DIFFERENTIALS AND STEPS IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE CORRECT SALARY SCALE BASED

What are SALARY DIFFERENTIALS ?

• Salary differentials are increases in salary based on academic credit, coursework, or degrees earned beyond their bachelor’s degree.

• For example, the applicant may receive a differential once they achieve any of the following:

1. FIRST-30 Credits above and beyond the Bachelor’s degree requirements. This differential is commonly referred to as the, 1st Differential.

2. PROMOTIONAL-Master’s Degree or 36 credits beyond baccalaureate in an area of specialization (commonly known as the -- Promotional Differential.)

3. INTERMEDIATE- (without Area of Specialization)-60 Credits above and beyond the baccalaureate degree. This level is commonly known as the -- Intermediate Differential.)

4. INTERMEDIATE- (with Area of Specialization)-60 Credits above and beyond the baccalaureate (can include credits towards the Master degree and excess credits, not used towards degree requirements, from undergraduate program. This level is also known as the -- Intermediate Differential.)

5. SECOND-Master’s and Baccalaureate Degrees plus additional 30 credits (commonly known as the – Second Differential.)

All teachers start on the Base Differential and Salary Step 1A.

A teacher with no teaching experience and holds a Master’s degree would be eligible for the Promotional Differential(RA) on Salary Step 1A.

A teacher with 2 years of teaching experience and holds a Master’s degree would be eligible for the Promotional Differential(RA) on Salary Step 3A.

D.O.E Service Only, must complete ## of years to have longevity

To calculate Salary with Longevity:Current Salary Placement (Differential and Salary Step) + 1,138 (longevity)

Ex/ (RA 8B) 78,346 + (5yr long) 1,138 = (current salary) 79,484

Every time a milestone of Longevity is made, you add another 1,138 to the amount listed on your Salary Placement

All school secretaries start on the Base Differential and Salary Step 1A. A school secretary with no

experience and has 60 credits would be eligible for the Educational Differential(WB) and Salary Step 1A.

A school secretary with 2 years of experience and has 60 credits would be eligible for the Educational Differential(WB) and Salary Step 3A.

To calculate Salary with Longevity:Current Salary Placement (Differential and Salary Step) + 854 (longevity)

Ex/ (WB 8B) 55,956 + (5yr long) 854 = (current salary) 56,810

*** For school secretaries, the most experience that can be

awarded is 5 years***

All psychology and social workers start on the Base Differential and Salary Step 1A. A psychologist or social

worker with no experience and holds a 60 credit Master’s degree (in psychology or social work) or Bachelor’s + Master’s + 30 credits would be eligible for the First Differential (WQ or WL) and Salary Step 1A.

A psychologist or social worker with 2 years of experience and holds a 60 credit Master’s degree (in psychology or social work) or Bachelor’s + Master’s + 30 credits would be eligible for the First Differential (WQ or WL) and Salary Step 3A.

D.O.E Service Only, must complete ## of years to have longevity

To calculate Salary with Longevity:Current Salary Placement (Differential and Salary Step) + 1,138(longevity)

Ex/ (WQ 7B) 92,077 + (5yr long) 1,138 = (current salary) 93,215

*** For psychologists and social workers, the most experience

that can be awarded is 5 years***

All guidance counselors start on the Base Differential and Salary Step 1A. A guidance counselor with

no experience and holds a 60 credits Master’s in Guidance and Counseling or Bachelor’s + Master’s + 30 credits would be eligible for the VIH-2 (WH) and Salary Step 1A.

A guidance counselor with 2 years of experience and holds a 60 credit Master’s in Guidance and Counseling or Bachelor’s + Master’s + 30 credits would be eligible for the VIH-2 (WH) and Salary Step 3A.

D.O.E Service Only, must complete ## of years to have longevity

To calculate Salary with Longevity:Current Salary Placement (Differential and Salary Step) + 1,138(longevity)

Ex/ (WH 8B) 91,017+ (5yr long) 1,138 = (current salary) 92,155

*** For guidance counselors, the most experience that can be

awarded is 5 years***
