Mr. R. A. Sellwood has been appointed to an additionalchair of surgery, which has been established in connectionwith the development for teaching purposes of the UniversityHospital of South Manchester.Mr. Sellwood was educated at Headlands Grammar School,
Swindon, and the University ofBristol, where he graduated M.B.in 1952. After house-appointmentsat the Bristol Royal Hospital, anda period of service in the R.A.M.C.,he held appointments in the RoyalUnited Hospital, Bath, the BristolRoyal Infirmary, and SharoeGreen Hospital, Preston.
In 1959 he became F.R.c.s., andhe was appointed surgical registrarat the Hammersmith Hospital. Hethen spent a year as visiting re-search worker in the departmentof experimental pathology at theChester Beattv Institute for Can-
cer Research, returning to the Hammersmith as senior surgicalregistrar in 1962. He was also appointed tutor, and then seniortutor, in surgery at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School. Heobtained the CH.M. from the University of Bristol in 1967. His
particular research interest is the dissemination of cancer cells inthe circulation. In 1962 he was awarded the Keiley prize forresearch at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, and theMoynihan fellowship this year.
Dr. J. M. Evanson has been appointed to the newlyestablished additional chair of medicine.
Dr. Evanson was educated at Crewe County Grammar Schooland the University of Manchester,where he took the degrees of B.SC.with first-class honours in physio-logy in 1953, M.sc. in physiology in1954, and M.B. in 1957. As a stu-dent he won ten university prizes.From 1957 to 1969 he held
appointments in the departmentsof medicine and neurosurgery inthe Manchester Royal Infirmary,and he was awarded his M.R.c.P.in 1959. After a year as registrar inthe Nuffield department of medi-cine at the Radcliffe Infirmary,Oxford, he returned to the Man-chester Royal Infirmary as seniorregistrar in medicine in November,1961. He was appointed lecturerin medicine in the University inNovember, 1963, and was pro-moted to senior lecturer in October,1968. In 1966-67, he held an M.R.C. travelling fellowship atthe Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, U.S.A. His mainresearch interest is in the role of collagenase in normal and
pathological states.

have been appointed to the Medical Research Council insuccession to Prof. D. A. K. Black and Prof. W. T. J.Morgan.
The University of London and the University Grants Com-mittee have appointed a committee of inquiry into the governanceof the university. The-chairman is Lord Murray of Newhaven.
A medical research scholarship of up to E1500 a year is to beawarded by the trustees of the Sir Thomas White’s EducationalFoundation to enable a young graduate to gain experience inresearch in the Coventry Hospitals and to help research projectsof the Warwickshire Postgraduate Medical Centre. Applicationshould be made to the honorary secretary, Warwickshire Post-graduate Medical Centre, Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital,Coventry.
CORRIGENDA: Why Cyclamates were Banned.-On p. 1092 inour issue of May 23 we referred to the work of Egeberg et al.:these workers gave rats cyclamate without saccharin (not withsaccharin, as we stated in our editorial).
