OverviewThe Caterpillar Youth Apprenticeship program is a two-year youth apprenticeship program that leads into an adult apprenticeship and prepares students for employment specifically at the Caterpillar facility located in Sanford, North Carolina, and at other related industries. Eligible high school students take welding-related classes at Central Carolina Community College three days a week and work/train at Caterpillar two days per week during their high school junior and senior years. Caterpillar pays enrolled students during the school year for the time spent working/training at Caterpillar. In addition, students work up to 30 hours per week at Caterpillar during the summer between their junior and senior year.

At the completion of the program, successful graduates will have:

• earned an Industrial Systems certificate fromCentral Carolina Community College

• earned a certificate from the NC CommunityCollege System indicating that they havecompleted the youth apprenticeship

• completed the 80-hour CaterpillarAccelerated Training program

• completed hours to be credited toward theiradult apprenticeship

• worked part-time at Caterpillar for two years
