ORLANDO SHAKESPEARE THEATER IN PARTNERSHIP WITH UCF IS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION.
WE ARE A PROFESSIONAL THEATER THAT: • ProducesprofessionalproductionsofShakespeare,classicsand
contemporaryplays,andplaysforyoungaudiences.• DevelopsnewplaysfromreadingsthroughWorldPremieres.• Fostersinnovativeeducationalprogramstoserveourcommunity.
Webelieveinboldprofessionaltheaterthatencouragestheactor/audiencerelationship,embracesthepassionateuseoflanguage,andignitestheimagination.Thesesamefundamentalsgofromourprofessionaltheaterthroughoureducationalprograms.Withover20seasonsbehindus,wehaveanannualoperatingbudgetof$2,300,000.WeemployprofessionalAEAunionactorsandtopdesignersfromNewYork,Orlandoandaroundthecountry.Intermsoflengthofseasonandsize,weareoneofthetoptenShakespeareantheatersinthecountry.

OUR SPACEWeperforminfourtheatersalllocatedinOrlando,Florida,fourindoortheaters(Margeson-320seats,Goldman-118seats,Mandell-96seats,StudioB-75seats)attheLowndesShakespeareCenterinLochHavenCulturalPark.
TheCenteris53,000squarefeet,includingtwoprofessionaltheaters,classrooms,rehearsalhalls,patronsroom,cateringkitchen,courtyard,lobbies,giftshop,boxoffice,scenicandcostumeshops,andadministrativeofficers.

Inthesummer,wehaveeducationalcampsandclasses.Also,ourYoungCompany,agroupoftalentedhighschoolstudents,performsShakespeareandotherplays.
WehaveathrivingprofessionalpartnershipwiththeUniversityofCentralFloridawhichincludesagrowinginternshipandMFAprogram,classestaughtbyOrlandoShakesartisticstafftoUCFgraduateandundergraduatestudents,aswellasseniorUCFfacultymembersperforminganddesigningonourprofessionalstages.Weprovidemanyyoungstudentswiththeirfirstprofessionalcredits,andhiremanyUCFalumnilaterintheircareers.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSCan I go to school or have a second job while I am an apprentice?No.Withascheduleof50-75hoursaweek,itwouldbealmostimpossibleandwediscouragetrying.Also,anapprentice’sdayoffcanchangedependingontheircurrentproject.
Is the cost of living in Orlando such that I can live on my stipend?Yes.Withbudgeting,apprenticeshaveenoughmoneytoliveon,notcountingschoolloansoranyotherextracosts.Ofcoursefindingroommateshelpssignificantly.Okay, where can I find roommates?Inadditiontoseveralcollegesinthearea(UniversityofCentralFloridaandRollinsCollegetonameafew)thatmayhavestudentslookingtosharehousing,wewillmakeeveryefforttoconnectyouwiththeotherinternsandapprenticeswhowillalsobelookingforhousing.When do I get paid?StipendsaredistributedonthelastFridayofeachmonth.Can I get health insurance at the Theater?No.However,youarecoveredbyworker’scompwhileworkingattheTheater.
Do I need to have a car?Yes.Apprenticesneedtohaveareliablewaytogettoandfromwork.
