What is an Apprenticeship?

An Apprenticeship is a combination of working,

studying and earning a wage.

Each Apprenticeship programme is different but generally you'll work 30 hours a week and attend college for one day a week.

You will be employed and paid at least the National Apprenticeship Minimum Wage.

South & City College Birmingham currently offers four types of Apprenticeships:

equivalent to HNC, Certificate of Higher Education or NVQ Level 4

LEVEL LEVELLEVELLEVEL

The college will also teach you skills such as English, maths and ICT.

South & City College will work with your employer to provide you with the skills and qualifications you need in your job.

The college will provide continuing support during your Apprenticeship in partnership with your employer.

Student Services The student services team can provide you with any support, information or guidance you might need during your time at college. All of our staff are trained to help and will treat your queries confidentially.

Special facilities can be offered for people who have a hearing or sight impairment or physical disability. We can also help with:

Your employer will also support you during your Apprenticeship.

Learn from anywhere You can access your college desktop and files from anywhere in the world, allowing you to continue your learning when you’re away from college.

Assessment You will be assigned a workplace assessor who will observe and support you in the workplace and undertake the required assessments of your work which will count towards your qualification.

Personal tutor Your personal tutor is your main contact within the college and will help you to reflect on your skills and experience, whilst encouraging and supporting you.

Functional skills tutor As part of your Apprenticeship you may be required to study functional
