Training packages can be tailored to meet the individual needs of each organisation.

Sexual harassment and the workplace

One in four women, and one in seven men have experienced sexual harassment at work in the past five years. Sexual harassment has a major impact on the victim/survivor, colleagues and the workplace as a whole. Victim/survivors report experiencing the following as a result of sexual harassment:

• fear • shame • inability to focus on work • decreased work performance • psychological injury.

Victim/survivors also report a preference to resign, minimise or put up with sexual harassment rather than speak up about it.

The consequences of employers not addressing sexual harassment in the workplace appropriately can lead to:

• reduction in productivity • retention issues • legal claims • reputational damage • poor workplace culture.

Responding to sexual harassment in the workplace

Employers may be held legally responsible for acts of sexual harassment that take place at work or work-related events. Employers are expected to have policies in place to prevent and respond to sexual harassment and take appropriate action if sexual harassment does occur. These policies should be current, regularly revised and communicated to all employees.

This training package provides the tools to better deal with sexual harassment at work. Strong sexual harassment policies and procedures can lead to:

• positive workplace culture • higher motivation • increased performance • reduced staff turnover • better reputation as an employer of choice.
