Rolling into . . .. . . the new year with a whirlwind of

concerts, dances, socials, classes, speakers, dinners and much more. You will want to check out the website (ssvhoa.com), the bulletin boards, Channel 22 and Coffee Time for more information. Events sell out quickly – buy your tickets early.

Concert Series 2015 . . .. . . season tickets still need to be

picked up by a few people. Please do so as soon as possible. The first concert is Janu-ary 14 with Beachfront Property. If you did not purchase season tickets but would like to attend individual performances, tickets are on sale NOW for vocalists “Beachfront Property” (January 14) and comedy magic with “Dana Daniels” (January 29). See flyers on page 12. Keep in mind, tickets will not be sold at the door.

Many thanks . . .. . . to all that participated in the

Holiday Light Parade with special thanks to the SSV Tennis Club for providing traf-fic control. We had 30 well adorned golf carts with Santas galore along with several decked out fuzzy, four-legged friends riding along. The seventy (70) member marching band from Desert Ridge High School did a superb job of heading up the “cartavan.” Hats off to Director Stephanie Campbell. It was a chilly night and the hot chocolate and cookies were enjoyed by all.

Mark your calendar . . . . . . with the Club Representative

meeting on February 4 at 1:00 PM in the Superstition Room. A representative from each club/group/activity needs to attend. Room request forms and budget request packets for the next season (June 1, 2015 through May 31, 2016) will be available at the meeting. All clubs/groups/activities using any room or facility must complete a Room Request. Mark your calendar for this important meeting.

Happy New Year to all of you.

By: Buffy Lewis, HOA ManagerHappy New Year to you all! I am so

excited to welcome in the New Year. I hope everyone had wonderful holidays, and that all of us have a blessed upcoming year. Now we can take a deep breath and relax from all the hustle and bustle of December.

The 2015 assessment statements were sent out at the beginning of December. If you have not received your bill, please con-tact me immediately. Assessments were due on January 1, 2015. DON’T PANIC! There is a grace period until January 15, but it is imperative to get it paid so you do not incur any late charges or rebill fees. Contact me if

you need assistance with your assessment. Our annual HOA meeting will be

coming up in February. I will get the information out on the SSV Forum and SSV E-News soon, so be looking for that. It will also be printed in the Village Voice for February.

For those who have holiday decora-tions up, they must be taken down by January 15, as stated in the Architectural Control Policy Manual.

I hope everyone has a joyous January!

Wanted: Volunteers for the Security Committee

By Ed Leahy, Chairman SSV Security CommitteeThe SSV Security Committee was

created seven or eight years ago to help keep SSV a low crime area. The main effort of the committee is to encourage home owners to participate in the Mesa Police Block Watch Program and take all reasonable steps to protect their property.

It is not the mission of the Commit-tee to provide home security but rather to promote home security. According the Mesa Police, 40 to 50% of property thefts are preventable with common sense measures. The police can’t sit in front of each of our homes to protect them. SSV is patrolled nightly by Community Action Security, but these are roving patrols that also can’t be everywhere at once. The most important layer of protection are steps taken by each of us to protect our property. Measures like keeping garage

doors closed, having security doors and sen-sor porch lights that come on when some-one approaches your home, and quickly removing door hangers and other tell-tale signs that you are not home. This is the message the Security Committee constantly promotes to prevent intrusions, and that is what volunteer committee members are involved in doing.

If you are interested, you can volunteer at the SSV Activities Office. Who knows? The home you might help protect could be your own.

Village SnapshotDolores Marie Patterson

By: Nan MillerB o r n a n d

r a i s e d i n L a -Grande, Oregon, Dolores Mar ie Patterson lived throughout the Pacific Northwest until moving to Mesa in 1983 and to SSV in March 2001. She is an

active member of the Writers Club and in charge of the group’s “Meet Your Local Au-thors” for 2015.

Winning an award for her ghost town article in the fifth grade encouraged her writ-ing. In addition to composing poems, she wrote articles including ones for her church bulletin. In 2005, she was given the assign-ment, as associate pastor at Life Community Church, to find a Bible reading program for her church. She wrote her own and put it in the 2006 church bulletin weekly for a year. After solid acceptance of the bulletin inserts, her husband encouraged her to publish them. In 2008, this resulted in her first book, My Daily SOAK. “It’s a journey through the New Testament, one day and one chapter at a time,” Dolores said.

She always wanted to write a novel. Her book, The School Teacher and the Bad Boy, is an historical Christian romance set in Wicken-burg, Arizona. It was self-published through Abbott Press. Recently, her son-in-law asked her to develop an app with My Daily Soak for the iPad and iPhone. That was published in 2013. She is now working on an app for the Old Testament.

Dolores was a homemaker and volunteer for her church and community between 1964 and 1984. In 1987, she became a paralegal at a Tempe law office. Since 1990, she has worked as a pastor at Life Community Church. In addition to writing, including tracing her family history, she enjoys walking, riding her bicycle, and reading.

Dolores graduated from the paralegal school of the Business College of Arizona State University. She attended several Bible schools including Phoenix’s Western Bible Institute,

Married to her husband, Zane, for 50 years, they enjoy RVing in their motorhome. After working for 34 years as a customer service agent for different airlines, Zane was a truck driver for Hurley Distribution Company from 1995-2001, until he retired. They have one daughter.

ClubsBunko

By Joe FusaroBunko must be catching on as our num-

bers are growing. We had 23 players even with six of our regular player absent. We soon will be out growing the Majestic room.

Some of our new players in December were Ethel Grosse, Lynda and George White, John Spero, Julia Houck, Sandi and Ron Fitch, and Renate Meyers. We meet at 2:15 PM in the Majestic Card room on the second Saturday of every month, even in the summer.

Bunko is played with dice and is a very simple game to learn. We collect $3.00 to be distributed for the seven winning categories. At the end on Bunko, we also play a game for $1.00 called “Left Center Right.” There are two winners in the game. We are usually finished by 4:30 PM.

For more information or for a copy of the playing rules for either game, contact me, Joe Fusaro, by email at [email protected] or call 480-390-0447.

Karaoke Party

Village VoicesBy: Judy Herr, Director

The members of the Vil-lage Voices chorus would like to thank those of you who supported us by attending our annual Christmas concert. We

hope our concert added to your celebration of the Christmas season. Half of your ticket cost has been donated to local food banks. We will have exact figures for you in next month’s article.

We also wish to extend a heartfelt thanks to a most generous couple, residents of Sun-land Springs Village, who donated the money for us to purchase new music folders. They wish to remain anonymous, but said they hope that their donation might set an example to others to help support activities and groups in our Village. The members of the chorus are thrilled to have the new folders. We intend to discard the old folders that are unusable and to donate the remainder to a local school that can use them for their students.

Rehearsals for the Spring Concert will begin on January 2. The Village Voices meet twice weekly, on Monday afternoons and Friday mornings, to rehearse for our concerts. If you are interested in becoming a member, please contact Judy Herr, 480-636-2388, or one of the chorus members for further information.

Writing Your Story

By: Mary TastoThe Writing Your Story class could also

be entitled “Sharing Your History,” as that is what it is.

We all have wonderful memories (and some that may be not so wonderful) that should be shared with those who come after us.

“I can’t write” you may say, but many who have attended the class in the past have said the same thing and guess what, they found they can write and do it very well, I might add.

Some topics include: early childhood memories; schools, jobs, homes in which they have lived; illnesses; raising children; retirement. The list goes on and on. In sharing with others in the class, we remember other events we might have forgotten.

Many who have been in the class in previous years have expressed that they were so glad they participated, and their families are glad that those memories are preserved.

Class begins on Tuesday, January 13, from 9 to 11 AM and are held in the Summit Room. Consider joining us for a rewarding experience.

If you have questions, feel free to call me, Mary Tasto. My number is 320 260 3744.

Writers ClubBy: Nan Miller

The Writers Club consists of novices, published authors, and every level between. Writing genres and styles are as varied as our membership. Our mission is to improve our writing, meet others with a common interest, and make new friends. Anyone who has an interest in creative writing is welcome.

We meet the first and third Thursdays of each month in the Superstition Room from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. In January, we will skip the 1st because of the holiday, but we will meet January 15. At each session, we decide on a short writing exercise to share at the fol-lowing meeting. As an option, we bring our own projects to share with the group.

Our group writes a few paragraphs, on a subject provided by one of our members, during the last 45 minutes of each session. We then read aloud what everyone has composed. This encourages all to write.

For those seeking critiques, the group offers a special interest group on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month in the Summit Card Room at 10:00 a.m.

For questions, if you would like to learn what the present assignment is, or if you want to attend either group, call Nan Miller at 480-984-1852.

By: Doris HavelkaIt was another fun

night at Karaoke on De-cember 4. The room was packed and tables were pushed together so friends could all be to-gether. There were very

few empty seats in the room. The theme was Christmas songs, many were sung, and the entire room joined in on The 12 Days of Christmas, where each group was given a different day and the group stood to sing their verse. It was fun watching everyone in the room join in. Special thanks to Judy Ofelt who has made this song a tradition of the Karaoke Club. There was an appearance

by Santa who passed out peppermint candy! Happy New Year to all!

There will be no Karaoke Party in Janu-ary but we will resume on February 6th with the theme being Songs of Love. Karaoke parties are on the 1st Friday of the month in the San Tan Center.

The Karaoke club donated ice buckets and scoops for use in the San Tan Center and are discussing what to do for the next donation.

The Free Super Bowl Party tickets will be available in January!

Vagabond Club News - Trips & Tips

By: Bob and Ginny Gray, www.ssvhoa.com/terra-travel, 480-986-2331, or [email protected]

As you are reading this edition, nearly 70 of your friends and neighbors from SSV are enjoying a relaxing Caribbean Cruise with Wayne and Judith Konz helping them celebrate their retirement. During their years as Travel Agents here at SSV, they have given so many of us the opportunity to travel and to check one more destination off our “Bucket List.” We all laughed our way through the 2007 Jack Nicholson mov-ie. As my Dad always told me, “Travel now while you can. The day will come when you won’t be able to.”

I have many destinations that I still want to see and enjoy, and I’ll bet you do too. Do you enjoy cruising? What is your favorite? Large Ocean Liners, Small Ships, Luxury, or how about a River Cruise. River Cruising is extremely popular and there are several options to choose from. Do you enjoy Motor Coach Tours? There are great Motor Coach Tour op-portunities in the USA and Canada as well as abroad, and some include river cruises.

Many of you have enjoyed Collette Motor Coach trips, and we hope you will join our SSV neighbors on the “Heri-tage of America” tour from New York to Washington DC for ten days beginning September 25. We also will be taking a 15-day cruise through the Panama Canal in February 2016. This trip will include a two day Canal Experience, stops in Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, Columbia, and Aruba. This cruise goes through the canal, not just to the lake and back out again. We will be traveling from Los Angeles to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. We are also planning a trip to Ireland and Scotland in 2016. Details to follow.

TIP OF THE MONTH: Contact us to install the “Per-sonal Travel Consultant” on your smart phone. This free app can be downloaded for your foreign destinations before you leave home. It provides information, places to see, restau-rants, etc., and you do not need to have your phone roaming while abroad.

Ceramics ClubBy: Gary Wagner

The Ceramics Club is sponsoring a dance on Sat-urday, January 17, 2015, in the Auditorium featuring “Saguaro Sunset.” This band will be playing all your country favorites as well as 50’s and 60’s Rock and Roll tunes. Tickets are $7.00 in

advance at the Activities office and $8.00 at the door.Do you like to work with your hands? Do you like to

doodle? Do you like handmade gifts? Try ceramics! Not only do we paint, but we create with clay, carve on wet greenware, create special pieces using horsehair, and now we have added glass fusing. Glass fusing is similar to stained glass without soldering the pieces together. The glass is cut and then melted together in our glass kiln. If you are interested in glass fusing, please contact Gary Wagner at (309) 241-7811.

The Ceramics Club invites anyone with any level of experience to join us in the Four Peaks Room for learning, fun and camaraderie. We are putting together several special classes which we will teach beginning in January.

Open sessions are held in the Four Peaks room every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM year round.

There will be a Club meeting on Thursday, January 8, 2015, at 9:00 AM in the Four Peaks Room. Please attend for more club information and to have any of your questions answered.

For additional information, please contact JoAnne Chapin at 480-380-2302.

Isn’t Genealogy Fun?By: Judi Taylor, 480.354.1708

The answer to one problem leads to two more. Start off the new year doing genealogy and finding your ancestors. Our speaker for Club this month is Karen Blackmore, and she will be telling us all about: Linkpendium, Google Books, and World Cat.

Everyone is welcome. We will meet Monday, January 5, at 7:00 PM in the Superstition Room.

I think my family tree is a few branches short of full bloom.

the first Monday of the month. The second Monday is devoted to show and tell where members submit photos in three categories that were selected at the end of the prior season. In January 2015, the categories are Flow-ers, Night Shots, and Open, which can include photos that are creatively interpreted and appear as “altered reality.”

The third Monday of the month the Club usually hosts a presentation by a professional in the photography field. This coming January 19, our Club is lucky to have as our guest speaker Gil Rebilas. Gil is a nationally known pho-tographer. He has been a drag car racer, and then became a photographer who has taken pictures of drag races all over the world. The subject of his program is “Life of a Motor Sports Photographer.” His exciting presentation is about his narrow escapes photographing the races. EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO ATTEND. On February 16, Gil will be back to present, “The Passion of the Chase! Photographing Lightning!” So mark your calendars to join us on January 19 and again on February 16 for these exciting offerings. Membership in the Club is not required to join us January 19 in the Superstition Room at 1:00 PM.

On the fourth Monday, the Club ventures out and about on a field trip. In November, we travelled to Bearizona in Williams AZ and in January 2015, we will be travelling to the Biosphere in Oracle AZ.

We always welcome new members to join us for our formal meeting, show and tell date, our professional pre-sentations, and on the field trip if you choose. We meet on Mondays at l:00 PM in the Superstition Room. Our season culminates with an Annual Exhibit In the auditorium. This season the show will be on March 8, 2015. Again, we are happy to have you come and view our photos from the season and to visit with the members of the Club.

Community Bible Study

By Ardella BurtmanA community Bible study is held every Friday morning at

9:00 AM in the Springs Card Room. The Bible study is open to anyone who wishes to attend and is not restricted solely to residents of Sunland Springs Village. This is an interde-nominational study, open to men and women. There is no charge and no book to buy – the Bible is the study guide with use of commentaries by trusted Christian writers. Bring any translation of the Bible you prefer to use. The Bible studies continue throughout the summer months.

Pastor Tom Weitzel is leading the Bible study group in a study of John, the Fourth Gospel of the Bible, wherein some of the greatest truths of the Christian faith are taught. This study is designed to reveal John’s view of Jesus. The study will also challenge traditionally held beliefs and show how the Gospel of John, more than any other Gospel, provides a comprehensive basis for the Christian faith. Pastor Weitzel emphasizes that the purpose of studying God’s Word is not simply to become more knowledgeable, but to learn to know and love Jesus better. This study will continue throughout the winter months.

Pastor Weitzel has a Masters in Divinity from Bethel Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was a pastor for 20 years serving churches in Iowa and Colorado. He and his wife, Ann, have a winter home in Sunland Springs Village and a summer home in the Estes Park, Colorado area, where Tom pastors a church in Drake, Colorado, during the summer months.

If you have any questions about the Bible study, please call Ardella Burtman at 480.993.3102.

1Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be trans-formed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:1-2

Chapel TidingsBy Springs Chapel Board

Springs Chapel offers Sunland Springs Village residents a Christian community worship service each Sunday at 9:00 AM in the SSV Auditorium, followed by a coffee and fellow-ship hour. Communion is offered the first Sunday of each month. This is a non-denominational, Bible-based ministry. Pastor Anthony Bryant and Pastor Lanny Barringer serve as its pastors.

While not a full-fledged church, Springs Chapel does offer opportunities to participate in a mixed choir, men’s and women’s breakfasts, women’s reading groups of Christian books, and special social events sponsored by the Chapel. Choir practice is scheduled on late Wednesday afternoon at 4:45 PM in the Superstition Room. The Choir Director is Judy Herr (480-659-7026). Chapel men’s and women’s groups meet once a month on a Thursday morning. For further information on these groups contact Bud Dighton at 480-380-7733 (Men’s Group) or Julia Hoon at 509-679-8009 (Women’s Group). The Women’s Reading Group meets once a month. Contact person for the reading group is Sylvia Hansen (480-984-4347). Special events are coordinated by Tony and Donna Mills (480-946-7344).

On January 4 the Mostly Vintage Quartet will provide special music at the 9 AM service. Rich Carey, a Chapel attendee, sings with the group. The Chapel Anniversary celebration will be January 18, 2015, with dinner at 5 PM followed by a special music performance by Cynthia and Wayne Hoff at 6 PM.

12 It is a land the Lord your God cares for; the eyes of the Lord your God are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end.

13 So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today—to love the Lord your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul— …. you will eat and be satisfied.

16 Be careful, or you will be enticed to turn away and wor-ship other gods and bow down to them. 17 Then the Lord’s anger will burn against you, …. and you will soon perish from the good land the Lord is giving you. Deuteronomy 11:12-17

Activities

By: Jane HarrelThe Ladies Ponytail Canasta Group does

not just play cards. On December 1, they also had a huge Christmas luncheon feast of chicken, potato salad, fruit, pickles and green olives, rolls and butter, and potato chips with big chocolate chip cookies for dessert. It was yummy.

Maureen Coniglio and Kathy Boerner not only did all the arranging of the food, they also got some very nice door prizes. Gift certificates from Village Inn for a free

pie were won by Carol Pohr and Kathy Hol-lands. Edna Magnuson and Jan Rutherford each won a $40 gift card to Streets of New York. Helping to serve were Nancy Patterson, Alice Brands and Helen Biteman.

Please be sure to patronize the restaurants who gave us such great gifts to give away to our group. They are just right across the street and have a table waiting for you.

Some of the 85 ladies who play each week enjoyed the wonderful luncheon.

By: Sue OrcuttCalling all SSV Corvette owners: If you

Golf Course Feasibility Study Committee

By: Arnie SchwalbThe Committee has started receiving and analyzing data

from Farnsworth. Because much of the data falls under a confidentiality agreement, parts or all of our meetings may not be open to non-committee members. Our meeting times and location have changed. We now meet on Fridays at 1:00 PM in the Springs Card Room. Before coming to a meeting, contact a committee member to be sure it will take place and that it will be open to non-committee members.

Since the articles for the Village Voice must be submitted so far in advance, the best way to keep up with the latest infor-mation is to visit the “Golf Course Study” tab on the SSV HOA website. We will also do some posting on the SSV Forum.

Tip of the Month: Popping the Ball Up: Whatever you do, don’t “pop” the ball up. You may be quick and athletic in returning a ball that is driven down at you, but most often, you will lose the point. To avoid “popping” it up, slow the ball down and drop it over the net (dink) or hit it straight across the net.

YogaBy: Christine K. Marcus

Pictured are Yoga students from our Thursday, PM class, all levels welcome!

Yoga is more than the asanas (poses). It is about what we learn about ourselves and our body by doing Yoga. The Yoga sutras of Patanjali say, “The restraint of the modifications of the mind-stuff is YOGA.” Once this is achieved, we have reached the goal of Yoga.

Through the various poses we increase flexibility, build core strength, stretch and strengthen muscles. This body/mind connection allows us to focus on our breath, thus quiet-ing the mind.

Looking to unwind in the evening-try, Yoga on Thursdays in the San Tan Center. Class is from 6 to 7:15 PM, sign in 5:45 PM, cost is $5.00. Bring a Yoga mat and blanket. You can also start your day with Yoga on Monday, Wednesday and Friday Classes 8:45 – 10:00 AM, sign in 8:30 AM, cost is $3.50 in the Auditorium with Certified Yoga Instructors for all classes. Yoga is done barefoot. Wear comfortable clothes to move in.

Sunland Springs Village Homeowners Association Minutes of the Monthly

Manager MeetingSSV AuditoriumTuesday, November 25, 2014 Participants: Jeff Decker-HOA Vice President Buffy Lewis-HOA ManagerFran Davidson- Recording Secretary The meeting was called to order by HOA Manager Buffy Lewis at 9:40 AM. Ms. Lewis welcomed everyone and let them know that the Activity Office would be closed on Thurs-day and Friday (Nov.27 & 28) for the Thanks-giving holiday. If anyone needed assistance during that time they could contact the First Service Call Center at 480-551-4300 a 24/7 message center or you can leave a phone message for Buffy at the SSV HOA office.

She then reported on the October, 2014 Fi-nancial Summary, a copy of which had been distributed prior to the meeting. Overall the budgeted accounts are doing well. There were several bills processed too late to make the October report. They have since been paid and will be reflected in the November report.

She is dealing with some SanTan pool heater issues. A chair rail has been added to the Superstition Room and because the project did so well, a similar chair rail be added to the SanTan center activity room. The flower beds at the Springwood and the Guadalupe entrances have been upgraded. Granite has been replaced at the SanTan center and the Tennis Court project there has been finished. Victor is now working on replacing the air pressure hose near the Library that has been out of service the last week. Ms. Lewis asked for questions and there being none the meeting was turned over to Jeff Decker for a builder update.

Jeff thanked everyone for their support in defeating the proposed nearby Industrial Park Septage Project. Residents thanked the Farnsworth group as well for their efforts.

A resident commented on how great the Vil-lage is looking and noted the Village Christ-mas lights that were recently setup.

Jeff said sales continued to go well. So far this year, 132 had been sold and that was the same number sold in the entire year of 2013. All together 2310 have been sold and approximately 500 more will be sold before we have full build out. If the trend continues Farnsworth will be here for approximately 5 more years. Construction is averaging starts on 3 houses a week. Phase 8 (south of Guadalupe) has the water and sewers in and construction is starting on the electrical; then the streets and houses will start going up

Questions and Comments:

Is there any news from the city on the park down off of Elliot? No, there is no informa-tion yet.

How about an update on Fry’s at Guadalupe and Signal Butte? There is nothing new there either, we understand they are still working with Mesa on their plans.

Jeff noted a block wall on the south of the SRP easement will be started. There is a 30 foot SRP easement running from Guadalupe to Meridian and SSV will have a walking path and desert landscape along the easement. We will also have an entrance into the proposed city park there. Jeff clarified, SSV owns the area known as the SRP Retention area south to the next development and will be responsible for its maintenance. The landscape budget has been updated for 2015 to include this area. He explained that there is no cost for the original landscaping (except for electricity and water) to the HOA until the developer (in this case Farnsworth) finishes its work plus 90 days and then releases the area to the HOA.

Farnsworth plans to break ground for the As-sisted Living Center after the first of the year.

Jeff said the budget results for 2014 are good and it looks like there may be a slight surplus. The 2015 Master Annual Maintenance Fee will only need to be increased $10 to $650 compared to $640 in 2014. We also continue to maintain a Reserve Fund percentage in the high 90’s or over one million dollars. He said we are in sound condition and thanked the many volunteers and committees whose ef-forts have helped save thousands for the HOA.

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Fran Davidson, Recording Secretary

SUN AMERICAN MORTGAGE COMPANY is Arizona’s #1 Reverse Mortgage Banker!

Qualifying for a Reverse Mortgage is easier than ever! You could Save thousands by consulting

with a Trusted Local Mortgage Banker! The opportunity to get a Reverse Mortgage in Arizona has never been better. In fact, the company that wrote the fi rst Reverse Mortgage in Arizona, Terry Turk, President of Sun American Mortgage Company, is the #1 Reverse Mortgage banker in Arizona. This is great news for seniors, because Sun American Mortgage Company has helped thousands of seniors gain fi nancial freedom through a Reverse mortgage, and they have a track record of satisfi ed customers. Sun American Mortgage Company is a locally based and locally owned mortgage banker. In fact Sun American Mortgage Company is owned by the Farnsworth family, who have been helping seniors in Arizona for over 50 years It’s never been easier to qualify for a reverse mortgage and for seniors to get more money in their pocket. In fact, some mortgage bankers like Sun American Mortgage Company, have even sliced their own closing costs and eliminated their origination and servicing fees to put even more money back into the hands of seniors who qualify for a reverse mortgage. A reverse mortgage allows people who are 62 years old and older to convert

their home equity into cash without ever having to make another payment and with no out of pocket expenses. Instead of the homeowner writing a check to the bank each month, the bank now pays the homeowner who can elect to receive a lump sum, a line of credit or monthly payments. One of the biggest criticisms of reverse mortgages has been the fees, which before the new changes could have totaled up to 5% of a home’s value. But the new cuts in fees, plus the discounts and cutting of their own fees at Sun American Mortgage Company mean that some homeowners can save $15,000 or more on the closing costs. Parker Turk, from Sun American Mortgage Company also explained more about these savings. “The new calculations allow more seniors to qualify for a Reverse Mortgage. Over the past 12 months, many people that have called seeking fi nancial relief just didn’t have enough equity in their home, but with the new government changes people are revisiting a Reverse Mortgage as an option and are fi nding out they now qualify. In addition, at Sun American Mortgage Company we cut our origination fees, servicing fees, and are now

able to cut their closing costs putting that money directly back into their pocket.” If anyone is considering a reverse mortgage, or would just like to speak to a trusted advisor to see if a reverse mortgage would be right for them, it is recommended that you consult with a company that will is big enough to handle whatever needs you may have, but also that you fi nd a local business with a great reputation so that you can meet face to face with your banker, and get the answers you need, from a company you can trust. Sun American Mortgage Company is Arizona’s Largest Reverse Mortgage Banker and the wrote the fi rst reverse mortgage in the state of Arizona over 20 years ago.
