Introduction

Greg O’Connor – Pioneering the Virtual Application Appliance approach to simplifying application-

lifecycle management, enabling application mobility to the cloud and enables reduction of the infrastructure needed for your data center He was co-founder and president of Sonic Software, acquired in 2005 by Progress Software (PRGS). At Sonic, Greg O'Connor evangelized and created the Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) product category, which is generally accepted today as the

foundation for Service Oriented Architecture (SOA).

Paul Lappas– Paul is the VP of Engineering is a founding member of ServePath, the parent

company of GoGrid. He has many years in the Internet Infrastructure business working for SaaS, Hosting, and IaaS services.

Who is AppZero?

Pioneering the virtual application appliance (VAA) approach to server-based application provisioning, AppZero encapsulates an application and its dependencies -- with zero OS components. The result is instant-on applications for cloud or datacenter.

March– Launch at DEMO 09

The Right Layer of Decoupling

Server Virtualization

– Reduce the number of physical servers

– Reduce the infrastructure needed for your data center (power, cooling, battery backup, network switch ports, etc)

– Ability to bring up new servers quickly

– Overall, lower TCO of

servers

– No change to OS/App

Economics

– VMSprawl (OS+App)

– Reduces number of physical and virtual servers

– Reduce the infrastructure needed for your data center (operating systems, anti-virus, management, back up etc)

– Ability to move and provision application quickly

– Overall, lower TCO of applications

– Vastly simplified OS/App Management

– Role clarity

What is State of Art Today?

Do it by hand – WikiMedia application example– Install

• PHP• Apahce• MySQL• Media Wiki

– Configure to work together• PHP• Apahce• MySQL• Media Wiki

– Reconfigure from existing configuration but changed for the GoGrid environment

• PHP• Apahce• MySQL• Media Wiki

– Move the application specific data• Configuration/modifications• The data in db

– Test– Establish a time window do the move live data

The “Cloud Pyramid”

Cloud Services economy is a pyramid

Layers equate structure

Building blocks: – Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS)

– Platform-as-a-Serice (PaaS)

– Applications (SaaS)

Breadth vs. Niche
