  • For the members, family and friends of Frisco City United Methodist Church

The calling of the twelve disciples gives us won-

derful insights into the business of how men

and women are reached for Christ. According

to the Gospel of John, only one of the first five

disciples was reached directly by Christ. That was Philip. Jesus

said to him, Follow me (John 1:43). The other four were

reached by someone elses witness to Christ.

Andrew and an unnamed disciple, perhaps John, came as

the result of John the Baptists witness. Simon came because

of his brother Andrew, and Nathaniel came because of his

friend Philip. You and I have significant roles to play in the ad-

vancement of the kingdom of God. If people around us are go-

ing to find Christ, it will happen only as we hear a winsome

witness to Him. These first disciples were not ministers. They

were laypersons who had been impressed by someone elses

testimony about Christ. They had not known Christ long when

they became soul-winners, and they turned first to their family

and friends. We should begin our witness for Christ by reach-

ing out to those to whom we are closest. They are our first re-

    sponsibility.

What are you doing to bring others to Christ? Our lives

and our lips must speak of Him. And we should begin with

    those we love.
