HAPPENINGS TOGETHER IN MISSIONS, MINISTRY AND FELLOWSHIP Easter Missions Offering Through the season of Lent, we are preparing our hearts to celebrate the Resurrection of our Savior. Sadly, many people in our world will not celebrate Easter as the observance of the Resurrection. One way we can share this Good News is through our gifts to our annual Easter Missions Offering. Our goal for the 2018 Easter Missions Offering is $20,000, and can be designated to CBF Global Missions, SBC Annie Armstrong Missions Offering or to HBBC Missions. You may give using the envelopes in the Pew Pad or at the Welcome Center or by going to www.hbbc.org/give and selecting which Easter Offering category you would like to support! So far $9,601 has been given. Membership Matters Have you recently joined HBBC or are you prayerfully considering becoming a member? Are you seeking more information about deepening your relationship with Christ? Do you desire more information about how to join the church or how to find a place of service? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you would be a perfect candidate for Membership Matters: a 5-week discussion group that deals with all of these issues. Susan Hailey, Betty Boyce and Nancy Graybeal serve as facilitators for the class. The class meets on Sunday mornings at 9:45 AM in Room 106, beginning April 8. Contact Christine Moore in the church office ([email protected]) for details or to register. Rise Against Hunger Join us as we work together to package meals together on Sunday morning from 9:15-10:30. Ages 3 and up can participate. Children’s Musical Rehearsals have begun! Our children’s music ministry has begun preparation for the spring musical, “Oh Jonah”. It ’s the story of the Old Testament prophet, brought to life through music and drama. We invite all children to join us on Wednesday nights from 6:15 to 7:15 in preparation for this amazing experience. It ’s not just the story of a big fish swallowing a human. It ’s the story filled with adventure and life lessons for all ages. It ’s going to be a whale of a tale. If you have any questions, please contact Tyler Ingram ([email protected]) or Lisa Moxley ([email protected]).

Save The DateOur Chancel Choir and Orchestra are preparing a special worship experience for the church and the community on Sunday, May 20. Save the date, and invite a friend for a time of worship together.

In Case of EmergencyThe Crisis Management Committee has created a quick glance guide to help members, visitors and guests know how to react in case of emergency during worship, church-wide activities, and normal business hours. These guides have been placed at the Welcome Center, in the main hall information station, and in the pews. If you have any questions about the emergency procedures, please contact Kristen Muse ([email protected]).

Backpack BuddiesWe supply students at Partnership Elementary who are identified as food-insecure with a bag of groceries each week. Backpack Buddies aims to provide these students with access to nutritious foods that are easy for children to prepare. We meet periodically to assemble bags, so look out for these dates in the Happenings. Other ways to volunteer include shopping for food and bag delivery. For more information or to volunteer, contact Emily Patton ([email protected]).

CBF “Mission Bite”Monika and Damian worked in a clothing distribution warehouse (sweatshop) and lived with ten other workers in a house provided by their boss. They wanted a place of their own, but did not have enough money for the deposit. We needed someone to house sit while we were in the United States for three months, so Monika and Damian agreed. After saving enough for the deposit during that time, they looked for an apartment. After months of disappointing searching, Keith helped them contact one final apartment-finding agency. Within days they saw the apartment of their dreams and are now happily in their new home.

Small Tasks, Big ImpactRonald McDonald House provides lodging to the families of children in need of long term medical care. By collecting the tabs off of soda cans, they have raised $15,000 this year toward that goal. Please save your can tabs, and place them in the cabinet drawer under the counter across from the elevator in the main hallway. We are also collecting the Box Tops for Education, in order to purchase supplies needed by schools. These small tasks can have a big impact on families in our community.

Reintroducing HBBC’s Martha MinistryMany Hands Make Light WorkMartha Ministry is a way our church community can help its members in times of need by lending a hand. Meeting needs such as transportation, household and yard chores, food preparation and delivery, and sitting with the sick are just some of the ways this ministry helps fulfill short-term needs. To learn more, check out our brochures that are available around the church. The website will soon also have a place for you to fill out a request or sign up to help. You can also contact the church office by calling 919-833-4617.
