Please join us in prayer this week for :
Palm Sunday Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church April 14, 2019
From the Pastor:
Saint Leo the Great left us this Palm Sunday meditation. It’s worth going back to throughout this holiest week of the year:
True worshipers of the Lord’s Passion should look at the Crucified Jesus with the eyes of their heart in such a way as to recognize him as being of their own flesh. Let the earthly substance trem-ble in the punishment of its Redeemer. Let the rocks of unfaithful souls be broken. Let those on whom the tombs of mortality lie heavy break and leap over the shattered mass of obstacles. Let the proofs of the coming resurrection appear now in the holy city as well, that is, in the Church of God. Let what must be done in the body come about in hearts.
As we celebrate the wonderful mystery of this Paschal Feast, dearly beloved, let us announce—while the Spirit of God teaches us—whose glory we have been called to share in and into what hope we have entered. Let us not so anxiously or so proudly busy ourselves in the occupations of this present life as not to struggle—with the whole affection of our hearts—to be conformed with our Redeemer through his example. He did noth-ing and suffered nothing that was not for our salvation, in order that the strength which was in the Head might also be in the body.
I am praying for you this week. Please pray for me. Let’s grow in holiness together.
With love and prayers,
Fr. Francis

Still Time to Add to our
RIBBONS OF PRAYER
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart is a family, a community, that cares, loves and prays for each other. During the closing weeks of Lent, we hope to make the power of that prayer community visible to everyone who enters our church.
Through Holy Week, baskets of purple ribbons will be found at the rear of the church and chapel. You are invited to take one or more ribbons and, write, on one side of the ribbon, a special intention that you would especially want our prayer community to remember during this holy season .
Next, bring the ribbons to the porch in front of the church and tie them securely, writing side down, onto the porch rail where they will remain though Easter. If you prefer, you may take the ribbons home, note your intentions, and attach them to the rail when you return.
In addition to asking each of you to remember the collective intentions captured on our ribbons in your personal prayer, the intentions written on the ribbons will also be remembered at every Mass through Easter.
We hope to fill the rail with ribbons as a powerful and visible symbol of our belief in the strength of
a community that prays together.

An Examination of Conscience for Lent
A structured examination of conscience is often helpful in preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation during this Holy season.
In a homily several years ago Pope Francis wrote: “… the best way to guard one's heart is with the daily practice of an "examination of conscience," in which one quietly reviews what bad things one has done and what good things one has failed to do for God, one's neighbor and oneself.”
The questions suggested by the Holy Father include:
Do I only turn to God when I'm in need?
Do I take attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of obliga-tion?
Do I begin and end the day with prayer?
Am I embarrassed to show that I am a Christian?
Do I rebel against God's plan?
Am I envious, hot-tempered, biased?
Am I honest and fair with everyone or do I fuel the "throwaway culture?"
In my marital and family relations, do I uphold morality as taught in the Gospels?
Do I honor and respect my parents?
Have I refused newly conceived life? Have I snuffed out the gift of life? Have I helped do so?
Do I respect the environment?
Am I part worldly and part believer?
Do I overdo it with eating, drinking, smoking and amuse-ments?
Am I overly concerned about my physical well-being, my pos-sessions?
How do I use my time? Am I lazy?
Do I want to be served?
Do I dream of revenge, hold grudges?
Am I meek, humble and a builder of peace?

Remembering those we love during
the holy season of Lent
Lent is a perfect time to consider a Memorial Do-nation of Altar Bread and Wine to remember the
birthday or anniversary of a loved one who has died or to keep their memory in mind during this season of prayer. The name of your loved one along with the name of the person making the request will be printed in the Bulletin and they will be remembered in a special way by the Priests as they cele-brate Mass.
We will also continue to take requests for the Tabernacle Can-dle Memorials for the Church or the Chapel. Please call the Parish Office (359-1230) for more information.

The Children’s Corner
Theme: Jesus' entry into Jerusalem. Palm Sunday. 6th Sunday in
Lent
Scripture: When he came near the place where the road
goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began
joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had
seen: "Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!"
"Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!" Luke 19:37-38 (NIV)
Jesus and his followers were traveling to the city of Jerusalem. The city was going to have a big celebration called Passover that would last for a whole week. Have you ever been to a party that lasted a whole week? Well, as they were traveling, they came to a place called the Mount of Olives. They stopped there and Jesus gave his disciples some special instructions. "Go into that village over there," he told them. "As you enter it, you will see a young donkey tied there that no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks, 'Why are you untying that donkey?' just say, 'The Lord needs it.'"
So the disciples went and found the young donkey, just as Jesus had told them they would. And sure enough, as they were untying it, the owner asked them, "Why are you untying that donkey?" Hmm. . . now what was it they were supposed to say? Right! They simply answered, "The Lord needs it."
The disciples took the young donkey to Jesus and they put coats on its back so that Jesus would have a nice, soft seat as he rode it into town. Word spread quickly through the town that Jesus was coming. He had become quite famous because people had heard about his healing the sick and even raising the dead. As Jesus entered the town, a large crowd had gathered. People began to throw their coats on the road in front of Jesus. They cut branches from the palm trees and waved them and they began to shout, "Hosanna! Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord."
It must have looked like a parade as Jesus went through the streets of Jerusalem with everyone waving and cheering. But as exciting as all this was, the people really did not know who Jesus was. They thought he was going to set up an earthly kingdom and that he would do great things for them here on earth. They did not understand that his king-dom was in heaven. In just a few days, these same people who were shouting, "Hosanna!" would be shouting, "Crucify him!" because he wasn't the kind of king they wanted.
The Good News today is that Jesus is King. He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Today we are here to praise him and we shout, "Hosanna!" Do you know what that word means? It means "Save now!" That is why we shout hosanna, because Jesus saves — Jesus alone.
Dear Father, our voices join with the voices of
the people in Jerusalem some two thousand
years ago. Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in
the name of the Lord. He is our hope and our
salvation. In his name we pray. Amen.
