eternal life in heaven, the comforting power of the Holy Spirit to lead us in our daily walk, and the list could go on and on. Have you ever had a life-changing experience like that? If not, my friend you can. Then you can know true and lasting joy. Today let’s heed the admonition of I Thessalonians 5:16 and chime out the Savior’s praises. “Rejoice evermore.”

CONVERTED TO CHIMING

It is difficult to describe the difference in life’s perspectives after Christ comes in. II Corinthians 5:17 sheds some light on what happens when a person becomes saved, it says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new“. We must realize and agree that to have that great a change come upon a man, it would take nothing short of a miracle, yet that is just what happens when one has a life changing encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ. “Old things pass away,“ that is the former life style, the old sinful ways, the self-centeredness, condemnation to eternal hell, and the list goes on and on. “All things are become new,” a new outlook on life, peace of mind, joy unspeakable,

Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our LORD: neither be ye sorry;

for the joy of the LORD is your strength. Nehemiah 8:10

Once carnal cravings are fulfilled, more spectacular experiences are required to satisfy them the next time. The higher a person builds a wall of self gratification, the deeper becomes the reservoir of his need. If a pint of earthly excitement gives momentary happiness today, a gallon of temporary thrills is necessary for the same effect tomorrow. Without the Savior the human spirit becomes increasingly frustrated and never attains true satisfaction.

The world offers man the “pleasures of sin for a season,” as mentioned Hebrews 11:25, but they can never bring him lasting happiness.

By contrast, when a person is converted to Christ, his heart is filled with deep peace and satisfying joy. This cures his depression, lightens his burdens, and eases all his sorrows. With a melody of gladness ringing in his soul, obedience becomes a delight as he labors in the service of the Lord.

A watchmaker put a sign in his window which read, “CLOCKS CONVERTED TO CHIMING.” When asked about it he said, “I begin with just regular clocks but, after I’ve worked on them, they go through the hours of the day chiming out the sweetest tunes you’ve ever heard.”

How much like our Master! He transforms ordinary sinners by His Spirit through the miracle of the new birth. After that, they too are able to do their work ringing out sweet songs of grace.

Thought: Happiness depends on things that happen to us…Joy depends on Jesus!!!

O Death, Where Is Your Sting?

Mary, mother of Jesus, knew the agony of the loss of that Son as she watched Him beaten and crucified on the cross. He was God suffering as a man, but she was a mother suffering as any mother would over the death of her Son. She was devastated with grief as she took Him down from the cross and prepared Him for

the grave. Her grief was intense for three days and nights.

When she learned that He had risen from the dead her grief was swallowed up by rejoicing over His triumph. Her feelings of grief were over and she rejoiced, for

He was alive evermore.

The same should be true for each of us as we lose a loved one. The pain and mourning should be brief as we realize our loved one has also arisen and gone to

be with God in Heaven, nevermore to die. Alive forever! What a wonderful thing. These thoughts prompted me to write this poem.

“Put on the full armour of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes” (Ephesians 6:11)

Every morning, I begin my day by asking God to direct, empower and protect me so I will be able to please Him in all I do, think and say. I want to be in tune with what He wants for me. Often, there are times during the day when I take

back control of my life from God and try to do things my way. When I do this, I leave a door open for the enemy.

One night, after talking to Marvin on the phone, I went to bed and fell asleep. Suddenly I awoke. I thought I felt someone

crawl into bed with me. My first thought was a joyful, “Oh, Marvin must be home.” Then I realized that I had just talked

to him on the phone and he was in Orlando, Florida.

I got really scared. Silently I prayed, “Lord, who is it?” He let me know it was the enemy. I knew I had to pray aloud and I

prayed,

“In the name of Jesus, I command you to get out of our house.”

As soon as I prayed the dark presence left. I lay there for quite a while until I had the courage to turn on the light. Yes,

the name of Jesus is powerful indeed!

Dramatic attacks of the enemy like that are rare. Far more often he attacks with fiery darts. The enemy uses someone’s careless remark or our own imaginations to tell us that no

Forgiveness is Good For Your Healthby Katherine Kehler

“Fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely, and dwell on the fine and good things in others. Think about all the

things you can praise God for and be glad about” (Philippians 4:8).There is a book called Forgive for Good: A Proven Prescription for Health and

Happiness. I read a review recently. After five years of research, they found that people who forgive face decreased stress and fewer physical symptoms of stress. People who forgive experience greater physical vitality. People who forgive feel less

hurt and anger. They have concluded that the problem with grudges is that each time we think

about the hurt or anger at the heart of the grudge, it’s a reminder of the helplessness we felt when it occurred.

Here are nine steps they recommend for moving towards forgiveness:1.Know exactly how you feel about what happened.

2.Forgiveness is for you. Make a commitment to do what you need to feel better.3.Seek peace, not necessarily reconciliation, with the person(s), who hurt you.4.Get perspective and recognize that distress comes from hurt feelings and

thoughts and not what hurt you in the first place.

5.When you feel upset, redirect your thoughts to that which is positive.6.Give up expecting things from other people that they choose not to give you.7.Instead of mentally replaying the hurt, seek new ways to get what you want.

8.Focus on goodness, love and beauty. Remaining in the hurt only gives power to the person who hurt you.

9.Rewrite the story of the grievance in your mind so you can focus on the heroic choice to forgive.

Seems to me that these steps are the very thing the Apostle Paul was telling us in the verse in Philippians 4:8,

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure,

whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

Someone said, “The practice of forgiveness is the most important contribution to healing the

world.” What do you think?

It begins with us. How about you? Holding on to any grudges? Forgiveness is good for your health!

Want to help heal the world? It begins with you.

Father, You have given us all the principles for our health and the healing of the world. You know that we always see how others need to change, but it is our at-

titudes that will begin to effect change. Your grace is sufficient for each one of us. Thank You that Your Holy Spirit will give us the will and the power to forgive

wholeheartedly. Amen.

Try Tithing

“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me

now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to

receive it.(Malachi 3:10).

An email with an interesting challenge came to me today. The email read, “I need your help. I am

behind on a lot of bills. I am a waitress and each day I try to put back my tithes that I have made that day. But the bill collectors are calling and

it seems that I need money to make ends meet. What do I do? I need spiritual help.”

Seems like she isn’t the only person struggling with tithing when she can hardly pay her bills.

Let me give you the answer I gave her:In the natural way of thinking, tithing doesn’t make sense if you are in debt; however, let me give you a

promise from God:“Bring all your tithes…if you do, He will open up the windows of heaven for you and pour out a blessing so great you won’t have room enough to take it in.

Try it! Let Him prove it to you” God promises that if we give Him the first tenth of our income, He will pour out a great blessing on us.This has been our way of life (Marvin’s and mine) for

all of the years we have been married and we certainly have been blessed. When we were very

poor and when we had much.But let me tell you a story about another waitress

that illustrates this point. I used to lead a Bible study for businesswomen in Vancouver BC. Our

waitress would linger and listen to our discussions. One week, we were discussing tithing and the

waitress was very cynical. But the next Sunday, she decided to put a tenth of her weekly tips into

the offering plate at church.You can imagine her surprise when at the bus stop the next morning she found a significant amount

of money lying on the ground. God can make things happen and He does keep his promises. I would

encourage you to try it. Dear Father, You have given us so many gifts we

never open. Today, I ask that each woman and man that reads this devotion would give their tithe as soon as they get their pay check and let them be surprised by what You will do in response. Amen.

Lemon LushCrust:1-1/2 cup flour1 stick margarine, melted3/4 c. nuts (pecans)

Mix . Pat in 9 x 13 baking dish. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.

1st layer:1 (8-oz.) cream cheese1 c. powdered sugar8-oz. Cool Whip

Mix cream cheese and powdered sugar together and fold in 8 oz. Cool Whip. Spread on cooled crust.2nd layer:2 small boxes lemon instant pudding3 c. milkMix pudding and milk until thick. Pour on 1st layer. (I usually use 3 boxes pudding and 5 cups milk cause I like more pudding in mine) Top with 12-oz. Cool Whip. Garnish with chopped nuts.***You can use any flavor pudding.

Classic Macaroni Salad

1 c. mayonnaise2 tsp. vinegar1 Tbsp. mustard1 tsp. sugar1 tsp. salt1/4 tsp. pepper8-oz. macaroni, cooked & drained1 c. sliced celery1/2 c. chopped green pepper1/4 c. chopped onion1/2 c. chopped cucumber1/2 c. shredded carrot

In large bowl, stir first 6 ingredients until smooth. Add remaining ingredients. Tossto coat well. Cover. Chill. Makes 5 cups.

Jesus Christ

THE (SCIENTIFIC) DEATH OF JESUS At the age of 33, Jesus was condemned to the death penalty.At the time, crucifixion was the “worst” death. Only the worst criminals were condemned to be crucified. Yet it was even more dreadful for Jesus, unlike other criminals condemned to death by crucifixion Jesus was to be nailed to the cross by His hands and feet.Each nail was 6 to 8 inches long. The nails were driven into His wrist. Not into His palms as is commonly portrayed.. There’s a tendon in the wrist that extends to the shoulder.. The Roman guards knew that when the nails were being ham-mered into the wrist that tendon would tear and break, forcing Jesus to use His back muscles to support himself so that He could breathe. Both of His feet were nailed together. Thus He was forced to support Himself on the single nail that impaled His feet to the cross. Jesus could not support him-self with His legs because of the pain, so He was forced to alternate between arching His back then using his legs just to continue to breath. Imagine the struggle, the pain, the suffering, the courage. Jesus endured this reality for over 3 hours.Yes, over 3 hours! Can you imagine this kind of suffering? A few minutes before He died, Jesus stopped bleeding. He was simply pouring water from his wounds.From common images we see wounds to His hands and feet and even the spear wound to His side. But do we realize His wounds were actually made in his body. A hammer driving large nails through the wrists, the feet overlapped and an even larger nail hammered through the arches, then a Roman guard piercing His side with a spear.. But before the nails and the spear Jesus was whipped and beaten. The whipping was so severe that it tore the flesh from His body. The beating so horrific that His face was torn and his beard ripped from His face. The crown of thorns cut deeply into His scalp. Most men would not have survived this torture. He had no more blood to bleed out, only water poured from His wounds.The human adult body contains about 3..5 liters (just less than a gallon) of blood. Jesus poured all 3.5 liters of his blood; He had three nails hammered into his members; a crown of thorns on his head and, beyond that, a Roman soldier who stabbed a spear into his chest.All these without mentioning the humiliation He passed after carrying his own cross for almost 2 kilometers (1.243 miles), while the crowd spat in his face and threw stones (the cross was almost 30 kg (66.1386787 pounds).Jesus had to endure this experience, so that you can have free access to God. So that our sins could be “washed” away. All of them, with no exception! Don’t ignore this situation. JESUS CHRIST DIED FOR YOU! For you, who now reads this article. Do not believe that He only died for others (those who go to church or for pastors, bishops, etc).He died for you! It is easy to tell jokes but when it comes to God, sometimes you feel ashamed to tell others because you are worried what they may think about you.. Accept the reality, the truth that JESUS IS THE ONLY SALVATION FOR THE WORLD God has plans for you, show all your friends what He experienced to save you. Now think about this! May God bless your life!

As I think of the seemingly terrible defeat that You suffered and how it resulted in such a tremendous victory, it fills me with wonder and gives me such hope

and peace. Surely You and Your love will see me through whatever troubles may come my way, from now till eternity! Amen.

YOU TOOK MY PARKING SPACE AT CHURCH

This should wake us up.

One day, a man went to visit a church, He got there early, parked his car and got out. Another car pulled up near the driver got out and said, “ I always park there!

You took my place!”

The visitor went inside for Sunday School, found an empty seat and sat down A young lady from the church approached him and stated, “That ‘ s my seat! You took my place!” The visitor was somewhat distressed by this rude welcome, but said nothing.

After Sunday School, the visitor went into the sanctuary and sat down. Another member walked up to him and said, “ That ‘ s where I always sit! You took my place!” The visitor was even more troubled by this treatment, but still He said nothing.

Later as the congregation was praying for Christ to dwell among them, the visitor stood up, and his appearance began to change. Horrible scars became visible on his hands and on his sandaled feet. Someone from the congregation noticed him and called out, “What happened to you?” The visitor replied, as his hat became a crown of thorns, and a tear fell from his eye, “I took your place..”
