Flag atop grain elevatorinspires Brother Ed

One day while traveling to Perry Inoticed atop a grain elevator at theEveridge Farm the American Flag. I canreally appreciate the statement made byplacing the flag for all to see passing bythe farm.

As I drove on, my thoughts turned to the Pledge ofAllegiance we all have spoken at school, ball games,VBS and many other gatherings and what it means tome as an American. I’m certainly proud of what theflag stands for and caught myself reciting the pledgeas I drove. “I pledge allegiance to the Flag of theUnited States of America, and to the Republic forwhich it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. Interestingly, thePledge of Allegiance was written in 1892 by FrancisBellamy (1855–1931), who was a Baptist minister.

With the words of the Pledge revolving around in mymind I soon began to connect biblically. “One Nationunder God” spoke to me through the scripture 1 Peter2:9 “But you are a chosen generation, a royalpriesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who calledyou out of darkness intoHis marvelous light”. What amarvelous thought Peter gives us in belonging to theLord and chosen at that! He says we are chosengeneration, royal priesthood and a chosen nation byHoly God. A special people God loves and calls Hisown! Praise His Name!

The pledge continues with “indivisible” meaningunable to separate apart. Another wonderful thoughtand scripture reference from Paul in Romans 8:35“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ”? and

again in verses 38 & 39 “For I am persuaded thatneither death nor life, nor angels nor principalitiesnor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of Godwhich is in Christ Jesus our Lord”.

Ending “with liberty and justice for all” speaks of thefreedom not only as Americans living in the freedomwe have but also speaks of the freedom in Christ wehave. The Bible says in John 8:36 “Therefore if theSon makes you free, you shall be free indeed” andthis scripture reminds me of another pledge with apromise of liberty.

I pledge allegiance to theChristian Flag and to theSavior for whose Kingdom itstands. One Savior, crucified, risen, and coming again withlife and liberty to all whobelieve.

Bless His name!Bro. Ed

About the coverTen years ago Cathy Mitchelland her family stopped at BBCwhile riding bikes. (Theyspend a week riding bikes inGeorgia during March.) Ourpastor at that time, DennisPhillips, graciously entertainedthem and even gave the boystoy camels. The editor thinksthat they came by againsometime during Andy Blankenship’s pastorate. Their picture was on the front of the August 2003Blessings from their first visit along with a thank noteto Pastor Phillips for his hospitality.

Anyway, they came and worshiped with us EasterSunday and brought friends. They filled two pews inthe center section. The boys (top row) have grownquite a bit of course, and Caden Mae, who Cathy waspregnant with during their 2003 visit is the girl on thetop. Cathy is the adult in the cover picture. Cathyand her family are from Louisville, Kentucky.

Youth going to RUSH 2013Eight of our youth along with Paula Smith, VickiLamberth, Rhonda Youngblood and DanielThompson will attend this event May 3-5. Donationsto help defray the cost of this trip will be accepted.

RUSH or “Reaching Unchurched Students for HIM”was organized in 2004, originally a weekend eventheld in LaGrange with several local churches. RUSHgrew into a premiere gathering of students for onepurpose...TO WORSHIP GOD!

In 2009 founder Marc Prichett took RUSH Weekendto a new level by partnering with S. Truett Cathy’sThe Rock Ranch. In cooperation with The RockRanch, over 1200 students come together at this newvenue to worship God, with over 128 decisions madefor Christ!!! With each passing year, RUSHWeekend is reaching new heights. In 2012 over 4000students came together and 600 decisions were made.

The mission of RUSH is to motivate and equipstudents and student pastors to reach other students intheir communities for Christ. The goal is toeffectively and creatively convey the truths of God’s

Word to students, whereby they grow in their ownpersonal relationship with Jesus Christ. The result ofwhich is to create in those students a burning desire toreach out to other students with the same.

Congratulations toMatt Youngblood
