Creating The Ultimate Utility Room Is Easy!

Multipurpose rooms like those pictured here are becoming a “must have” item for the well-organized home. With Canyon Creek’s Closets Plus, you can design a workspace that not only is super-functional, it also looks great! Panels, shelves and pre-designed modules are available in melamine or wood, and the line includes accessories like hampers, wire baskets and pull-out racks that give everything a place.

Closets Plus is a great choice for any space that needs to be flexible and easy to change. Vertical panels include system holes up the entire length, so you can easily move shelves, closet poles and accessories to create the space you need. From the closet, pantry and laundry room to the craft room and even the home office, consider components from Closets Plus.

A capsule wardrobe is broken up into four three-month seasons, and each season you keep 37 pieces in your closet (including shoes). Everything else goes into storage, whether that’s under your bed, in another closet, or a dresser in the guest room. The mission is to cut out extraneous clothing items, leaving you with only the essentials.

Many items will overlap seasons, so when you’re creating a capsule for the next season, you’ll simply remove one article of clothing for each new one you add. To get started, empty out your whole closet and choose your 37 pieces before you re-hang anything. A model for the transitive weather of spring would look a little like this:

2 light jackets 3 dresses 8 shirts 4 pairs of pants 3 sweaters 8 pairs of shoes 2 tanks 3 button-ups 4 pairs of shorts

After narrowing down their wardrobes this way, many people are more in tune with their particular style, and even find they shop less! You may notice a greater outfit variation using the capsule wardrobe system, and you’re guaranteed to have plenty of items that you like now and that fit you well. And hey - we hear it makes laundry a bit easier, too.

Note: A capsule wardrobe doesn’t include your gym clothes, jewelry, pajamas or undergarments. Don’t sweat putting away cocktail or formal dresses, either - events that necessitate those are less common, and it’s more difficult to anticipate them.

Style Your Closet Like A CelebrityWe’ve all seen photos of amazing celebrity closets, but did you ever think to try incorporating some of their ideas into your own closet?

What’s a luxury closet without a spot to perch? There’s something about a fancy chair or a colorful ottoman that pulls the entire look together and lets you relax while you pick out the day’s outfit.

Many celebrity closets include an island. Even if you don’t have room for one, consider adding a shelf just inside the door, so you’ll have a spot to lay out items like purses, jewelry and other accessories.

Showcase things like shoes, purses, hats and scarves instead of tucking them away. Save room for bulkier items in your closet by creating room-facing hook space and shelving for these fabulous items.

Art can seem like a silly thing to add to a closet, but it is a room in your home, after all. Don’t be afraid to spruce up the walls with a little decor!

You don’t have to have a closet the size of your bedroom in order to keep your clothes and accessories organized and stylish. Re-think your closet design with these ideas that will help you to make the most of your closet space:

Limit stack height. Instead of stacking your clothes until they become a jumbled mess, limit the height of your clothing to 10 inches. You can even divide each garment with some thin bookends or acrylic shelf dividers. This way, your clothing will stay clean and unwrinkled while in your closet.

Use soda can tabs. Your closet rod can quickly become cluttered if you have too many clothes. Try this hack to give yourself more space: Slide a soda can tab onto the top hook of the hanger. Then, another hanger can fit into the hole in the soda tab, like this.

Add extra rod space. Extend your closet into your room by adding a clothes rack, similar to what you would see in a clothing boutique. This option puts your garments on display in a stylish way, and everything will be easily accessible. You can even find lots of tutorials online to make your own rack that will fit your decor.

Is Dry Cleaning Really Necessary?Dry cleaning uses a chemical called perchlorethylene to clean clothing without using water. While dry cleaning is a fabulous choice for many of your more delicate items, it can actually damage some, and it isn’t always a necessary expense. So how do you know what’s worth the cash and what’s not?

All suits Very, very dirty or stained clothing Items with pleats Clothing that has a separate lining Sequins & Silk Leather, especially if metal is involved

These items are too delicate to go through a traditional soap and water routine, even if done by hand, and dry cleaning will likely cost less than replacement.

Cashmere, oddly enough (but wash it by hand!) Polyester and nylon Cotton and linen with no special add-ons or linings

One other trick you can use to double check? A “DRY CLEAN ONLY” label means you should definitely, definitely dry clean it. Labels that say “DRY CLEAN,” on the other hand, aren’t as rigid. In many cases, you can hand wash those garments.
