Bear with me, and it will soon be over As I write this, it is my last day of teaching to the new employee orientation class at the casino. As we were talking, one person mentioned of her gardening and yard care and how over the past warm weekend she was walking around her yard looking under old leaves for signs of budding flowers and bushes. It struck me how we look forward to new seasons, and the words of Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 came to me. If you have forgotten that passage, this phrase will bring the words back to you – “To everything there is a season.” Those words brought to mind my focus (obsession?) with my pending retirement. I have had a hint of apprehension at the new life that awaits me. Much like my friend in the orientation class, I wonder about the budding prospects that await. Whether it has been a season or a decade or a lifetime, we have all experienced at one time or another the perplexing, perhaps vexing, situations mentioned in Ecclesiastes. There have been times of weeping and mourning, and times of laughing and dancing; times of planting and times of reaping; times of searching and times to give up; times to love and times to hate. Fortunately, I can look back at my life, my careers, and reflect more on good times than sad times. More than that, I can look back at the times that were most challenging, seemingly overwhelming, and see the hand of God guiding me. It took time for some of that to become evident, but I can reflect on how His hand was comforting and protecting me. The Bible speaks so often of ‘seasons’ that we can know that the times of our lives that can be challenging are part of the human experience. God has told us, through the prophets and evangelists, that it is His power and love and His timing that will maintain and sustain us. Luke wrote in Acts 1:7 that “…it is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.” Paul wrote to the Galatians (6:9), “…let us not be weary in well doing; for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” The Psalmist may have given the most beautiful rendition of our seasons: “He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”(1:3) The season of field planting and backyard gardening is upon us. Not to wax too poetic, but we are leaving a season of bitter cold, blowing snows, and darkened days. Isn’t it wonderful to see the sun and its impact on the blessings of the longer days. Can we take that same principle and apply it as we consider The Son, and His impact on the blessings of our days. God bless us all as we enter into the new season of the year, and the new seasons of our lives. See you in church. Pastor Mark

Bible Trivia ChampionsThe Chapel Cranks trivia team made their debut at the Bible Trivia Contest hosted by Pastor Brian Oliver at the Christ UMC Church in Toledo. Members of the team were Ron & Lois Groth, Vaugn & Carolyn Kloster, Kathryn Burt, Carol Burt, Susan Beichley and Lori Somers. Kathryn Burt served as the chair. Each member paid $10 and the money raised was to go to the winning team's charity of choice in Tama County.

Out of ten rounds of questions, and ten questions each round, there were 1000 possible points. The Chapel Cranks team, who wore their Ice Cream Social t-shirts, got 100% with a total of seven teams participating. The Chapel Cranks chose the NW Tama County Food Bank to be the recipient of the prize of $500 that was raised. The organizers of the Bible trivia night would like to see this continue and travel around to different churches.

April CalendarL.C.A.The Ladies Cemetery Aid met Wednesday, March 11, 2015, 12:30

pm at the Legends Restaurant for a luncheon meeting. President Connie Appelgate called the meeting to order. Kathryn Burt led devotions with readings from the book “The Family Album”. The selections were “Psalm of Springtime” and “Easter is a Time of Many Miracles”.

The minutes of our November meeting and our December trip were read and approved. Correspondence read were thank you notes from the Marshall County Emergency Food Box, Donald Mann, the Bland family, and Carol and Leon Lamer. The treasurer’s report was presented and placed on file. There were no bills presented. The 2014 yearly reports were read by the treasurer and secretary.

Shirley Svendsen reported one of our time certificates is due soon. Vivian LeVier made and Kathryn Burt seconded the motion we roll over this time certificate now. Motion carried. Another time certificate is due in July. There was discussion on possibly putting some of that money into the checking account at that time.

Committee reports:Hiring: The Smith family will again be hired to be caretakers of the cemetery.Cards: Ten cards have been sent.Flags: They were last flown on Veterans Day. Kathryn Burt and Shirley Svendsen will look over the flags to see if any need repair.Membership: We are glad to have Karen Handorf as a new member of our group. We hope to gain some more this year.

The Bylaws of the organization were read. Changes proposed were:

Article 6: Add “elected by ballot in November” and “shall serve a term of one year beginning in January”. Strike wording about terms of office, annual meeting, and yearly reports from the secretary and treasurer.Article 12: Change “at each January meeting” to “the first meeting of the year.” Add “the reading of the yearly reports of the secretary and treasurer”.Article 13: Strike out completely.Article 14: Strike out completely.

Connie Appelgate mentioned that Merlyn Appelgate is the only recorder for Chapel Hill Cemetery since Duane Beichley moved. We decided that the Chapel trustees should appoint another person to serve with Merlyn as recorder.

Connie Appelgate handed out information about the year ahead. We will be doing some different things this year and meeting for lunch several times.

Karen Handorf presented a book report on “The Day the World Came to Town.” The author told the events of September 11, 2001, when the United States banned aircraft flying over their airspace, and 250 aircraft were diverted to Canadian airports. Several were diverted to Gander, Newfoundland, a very small community. She told us how the community opened their homes, churches, and schools to the many passengers and crew.

Connie Appelgate closed the meeting with a reading. The April meeting is April 8 at 12:30 pm at Ocean City Chinese Restaurant.

Respectfully submitted, Carolyn Kloster, secretary

The Beauty of Easter Let Not Your Heart Be TroubledBy Helen Steiner Rice

What Does Easter Mean to You? By Bob Hefner

With OUR EYES we seethe beauty of Easteras the earth awakens once more... With OUR EARS we hearthe birds sing sweetlyto tell us Spring again is here... With OUR HANDS we pickthe golden daffodilsand the fragrant hyacinths... But only with OUR HEARTScan we feel the MIRACLE of GOD'S LOVEwhich redeems all men... And only with OUR SOULcan we make our "pilgrimage to God"and inherit His Easter Gift of ETERNAL LIFE.

Let not your soul be sadEaster is a time of joyWhen all hearts should be glad. Glad to know that Jesus ChristMade it possible for menTo have their sins forgivenAnd, like Him, to live again. So at this joyous seasonMay the wondrous Easter StoryRenew our Faith so we may bePartakers of "His Glory!"

Is it more than eggs of every hue? Does the Easter bunny rule your day? If so there is a better way. On Good Friday our Savior died. They hung him on a cross--they pierced his side. Thorns provided him a cruel crown. “It is finished” was his final sound. He died our sinful souls to save, A borrowed tomb was his grave. But Good Friday doesn’t end the story, On Easter morning he arose with glory. Christ conquered death for you and me, And made it possible for us to be sin free. The fact that he arose from the grave Shows us he has the power to save. Let us rejoice every day That Jesus is the life, the truth, and the way. And that he died, was buried, and rose again, To complete God’s great salvation plan
