At the outset, I am overwhelmed and humbled to walk the path in the shade of giants like Mr K N Shenoy and Mr N Kumar who have built this instuon into one of the finest Centers for bui lding the Compeveness of Indian Industry. I shall strive to fulfill the faith reposed in me and the rich past which I am very conscious of. Once again many thanks to all of you as I

share some thoughts as Chairman 2016-17 of the CII Instute of Quality having been its Co-Chair for the last two years.

Doyens like Mr K N Shenoy and Mr N Kumar while charng the course for this instute were deeply aware that being relevant and focused on building future ready skills is important in maintaining our posion as a reputed Internaonal Centre of Quality Pracces. Hence we need to be fully cognizant of changing user expectaons in light of increasing strategic challenges. Mr. N Kumar had iniated several moves to re-invent and re-posion CII IQ, which I detail below.

Quality can be the catalyst for reduced risk, lowered costs, and especially an improved customer experience-and with it the increased revenues that come from repeat sales. By transforming quality culture, and embedding the strategic quality mindset throughout the organizaon, companies can improve performance and manage risks to address the challenges of the next decade or two.

Quality ends up being less about engineering characteriscs -- metal tolerances, design standards, process checkpoints -- and more about change management. How do you create organizaonal excitement about quality? How do you inspire people? How do you improve quality and coordinate it across other funcons?

Leading quality organizaons are integrang the voice of the customer across the enterprise, acvely managing customer percepons and delivering unparalleled service. They are addressing the full spectrum of risk management by balancing the prevenon of defects with the detecon and eliminaon of those that do slip through. Finally, they are transforming the culture of the quality organizaon through a strategic mindset, strong leadership, and a commitment to change. With these

iniaves, they are geng a head start on addressing the challenges of the next decade.

CII IQ key services are Business Excellence, Educaon Excellence, Total Producve Maintenance, Lean Management, Six Sigma Tools and Techniques, Quality Management Systems, Metrology, Process Improvement Methodologies, Risk Management and Total Quality Management. Going forward, we should see the Instute become the Voice for Compeveness and be the Naon's Change Agent.

With the establishment of the Naonal Excellence Model and Nodal Research Agency, we should envisage it not only to become a leading Capability Builder but become the naon's reference point for the Big Q! For developing a new and vibrant India, we need to concentrate on a Naonal Excellence Model; Business Process Excellence; Personnel & Professional Development; Governance Excellence and Leadership Development.

I invite all like minded quality professionals to join us in taking this important agenda forward and shall be glad to receive your comments and suggesons. CII IQ connues to be driven by a strong performance ethic and a strong set of values and behaviours and is commied to delivering excellence to its stakeholders. Our investments in our people, capabilies, technology and infrastructure connue to ensure that IQ remains relevant to our customers and close to their business.

I look forward to your support and encouragement to help IQ scale newer heights in the coming years. Lastly, I would also like to thank all IQ customers and clients for their support and focus that have made these achievements possible.

A warm welcome to our new Chairman Mr R MUKUNDAN, MANAGING DIRECTOR, TATA CHEMICALS

I look back on CII IQ's performance these five years with pride and inspiraon. We achieved much and finished the year with considerable momentum. Into our fih consecuve year of expansion, we connue to see the demand grow across all of our core businesses, in all our vercals .However, the leadership we have built is much more than size and numbers. We engineer the impact that maers, predicng

and meeng the changing needs of clients, talent, and society as each of them encounters new and hitherto unknown challenges. Facing unprecedented disrupon—geopolical uncertainty or economic volality—is the new normal for our clients and for us. Despite that, we connue to stand resolute; ready to lead, guide, or advise those that depend on us through the challenges such market forces bring.

In fact, over our 15 years in service, we have learned how to successfully turn challenges into business opportunies. It's made us who we are today—the broadest, most deeply skilled, integrated, professional, quality services organizaon in the market. To help you understand how member firms connue to lead the way by bringing the full capabilies of our muldisciplinary model to impact clients, the market, and society. The CII Instute of Quality's over half a decade score-sheet under my leadership was both crucial and direconal. Some significant developments during this me helped the Instute grow in its stature as a naonal reference point for quality propagaon and disseminaon. It was instrumental in posioning CII's first Centre of Excellence with internaonal reputaon providing world class products and services.

IQ's strategy has been to promote and recognise excellence in India Inc. by building capacity and thought leadership. It has provided immense client value through various business soluons, by evaluang strategy and business outcomes and by facilitang improvement in operaonal excellence parameters like Producvity, Quality, Cost and Safety. It has thus been instrumental in facilitang change management iniaves and business transformaon to keep pace with modern trends. IQ has been proacve and responsive to the needs of its members and reached out to states, regions and other departments of CII. Besides currently working with CII's IT Commiee and PSE Commiee to create new Awards, IQ has reached out to other associaons like IMTMA and ACMA.

IQ's achievement in Business Excellence includes 9 Global Role Models & Award Winners; 13 High Maturity & Prize Winning Organizaons amongst 500 recognized organizaons. Each year over 500 personnel get trained as Assessors and ll date over 50,000 Managers have embraced the Excellence Way. IQ's over two

decades of 'Excellence' Promoon has posioned the 'Excellence Model' as the fundamental management approach to aain excellence. IQ is the only body in India which provides training and counselling support on Accreditaon Standards. With close interacons on ISO level Standardizaon, it closely works with Government; NABL BIS, CBEC, RBI, DGFT, FSSAI and LBSNAA. The Lean & Six Sigma iniaves have strengthened the internal opex curriculum of companies in line with the Global Standards both in Capability Building and in Cerfying Lean Facilitators Jointly with IIM, Indore, Lean Praconer and Six Sigma Green Belt and Lean Experts and Six Sigma Black Belts. This has helped establish best pracces in Industry with an out-reach to Tier 2 cies also. Internaonal Learning Missions to Singapore and Finland not only helped extend the Instute's internaonal foot-prints, but also helped benchmark the best in class pracces in the educaon sectors which shall shortly commence Cerficaon in Teaching Excellence. PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE @ GODREJ LOCKING SOLUTIONS & SYSTEMS

Confederation of Indian IndustryN E W S L E T T E R APRIL 2016

Confederaon of Indian Industry (CII), has been at the forefront, in promong and recognizing Business Excellence in Indian Industry with an aim of building Global Compeveness and Sustainable Growth. Towards fulfilling this, CII and EXIM Bank of India came together in 1994 to jointly instute the CII-EXIM Bank Award for Business Excellence. The Award, offers an opportunity for the Indian Industry to challenge the Business Excellence criteria that is based on the EFQM Excellence Model, a holisc management framework adopted by over 30,000 organizaons globally. In India, almost all leading names in Indian Industry have adopted EFQM Excellence Framework in their pursuit for Business Excellence. Over the last 22 years, 9 companies have been declared Award Winners and 13 as Prize Winners. The Award Winners include Hewle Packard, Maru, Infosys, Tata Steel, TCS, Tata Motors (CVBU), Bosch Plants in Bangalore and Nashik etc. Besides this, more than 300 organizaons have been conferred with different levels of commendaon cerficates in line with maturity levels achieved and demonstrated. Godrej Locking Soluons & Systems is the latest Award Winner and well known praconer of Business Excellence using EFQM Excellence Model as its fundamental management framework.

Godrej Locking Soluons & Systems (GLSS), a Division of Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Company Limited, is engaged in design, manufacture and sale of Locks & Locking Soluons to both retail and instuonal customers in India and abroad. Aer a couple of years of parcipaon in the CII EXIM Bank Award for Business Excellence, GLSS, raised the bar for itself and decided to undertake a ”Business Transformaon” journey in a me bound and focused manner with external facilitaon from the Business Excellence vercal of CII Instute of Quality. The broad contours of the Business Transformaon, in the form of a detailed roadmap, were laid out aer a few rounds of intense discussions involving CII-IQ and GLSS. The roadmap detailed the milestones, role & responsibilies and the priorized areas for improvement and acon based on detailed analysis of the previous assessment feedback and diagnosis by CII Counsellors. Besides this, broad long terms goals were also arculated clearly in the roadmap. In line with the defined roadmap, GLSS then formed a high level management team that would lead the transformaon journey. A point that is worth menoning is a key 'buy-in deliberaon and secret ballot vong' that took place amongst the senior management team before inving CII-IQ to facilitate the transformaon journey. The vong was unanimous and in favour of undertaking the business transformaon journey with external facilitaon. The Business Excellence journey then began in right earnest with personal, acve parcipaon and complete buy-in from the enre leadership team of GLSS.

Seven “Priorized areas” were idenfied for focused improvements based on assessment feedback, inial data analysis and maturity diagnosis using the Excellence Model criteria. The seven areas included:Ÿ Defining Core Purpose & Strategic Long Term DireconŸ Idenfying, Designing & Establishing Integrated Stakeholder

EngagementŸ Designing & Establishing Robust Business Strategy Execuon

Mechanisms & ProcessesŸ Designing & Establishing Operaonal Excellence across Value

ChainŸ Driving Product & Process Innovaon Ÿ Enhancing Business Process Excellence Ÿ Enhancing People & Sourcing Capability

annual external assessments. This provided the necessary impetus and incenve for the management team to focus on the need for ensuring success on the 7 iniaves and business transformaon roadmap. Besides this, personal, acve and connuous involvement of the Division Head right from the word go ensured effecve progress and achievement of desired outcomes.

CII-IQ facilitated execuon of the Business Transformaon roadmap covering the above seven areas through monthly hands-on and customized counselling sessions that included data analysis, brainstorming, idea generaon, idenfying process changes, IT enablement, briefing and de-briefing to the teams tasked with implementaon. The CII-IQ intervenons constantly focused on key deliverables and outcomes outlined in the roadmap. Since the key decision makers were personally involved in driving the 7 priorized iniaves and buy-in' of leaders was received before commencement of the transformaon journey, the outcomes were realized effecvely in line with the established melines. The progress in monthly intervenons and priorized iniaves were linked to the business results and subject to

Icing on the cake and validaon of all the above outcomes resulted into Godrej Locking Soluons & Systems being conferred with the most sought aer CII-EXIM Bank Award for Business Excellence in 2014. In doing so GLSS also set a new benchmark overall score in the CII Business Excellence Award Programme. The most significant aspect of this achievement is the fact that GLSS achieved an overall score of 600+ three mes from three completely different external assessment teams that included experienced internaonal assessors. Some key learning in this transformaon journey included:Ÿ Personal Involvement & Buy-In of Senior LeadershipŸ Focus on sustainable & long term growth instead of short term low

hanging gains.Ÿ Need for systemic, holisc view and acon across the value chain.Ÿ Excellence in Process & Performance remains the key aim, not quick

fixesWhile CII-IQ played a key facilitaon role, the contribuon of all the employees and senior managers of GLSS across funcons and levels undoubtedly played a crucial part in ensuring success.

The above outlined approach enabled achievement of all the financial and non financial outcomes well before the laid down deadlines. Key financial and non financial outcomes achieved include:Ÿ Significant Improvement in Top Line & Boom Line

leading to upward revision in Long Term Goals.Ÿ Extending the market dominance and leadership across

all business and product segments.Ÿ Widening the gap with respect to best competor across

different business segments.Ÿ Significant Improvement in sasfacon levels of all

stakeholders across segmentsŸ Significant increase in Product & Process Innovaons,

value creaon and financial savingsŸ Higher Levels of Churn, Revenues & Penetraon

Through New Products Introduced.Ÿ Improved Brand Image, Standing In The Industry

EVENTS

Confederation of Indian IndustryN E W S L E T T E R APRIL 2016

Year 2016 commenced on a high note for the CII Instute of Quality with the announcement of the TPM Award results by the Japan Instute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM) aer a detailed assessment of applicant companies for the year 2015. 26 Indian companies successfully challenged the presgious Japanese award. It is indeed a proud moment for Indian Manufacturing that India has the highest number of JIPM-TPM awards outside Japan for which Indian Industry deserves accolades. Till date, 199 Indian companies have won 292 JIPM-TPM Awards, with some of them going for higher level of awards in their TPM journey. TPM Club India of the CII Instute of Quality, through its consulng and hand-holding support, has ll date supported 90 award winning companies and has helped them get 119 Awards!

As part of its Industry engagement, with an objecve to exchange innovave, unique ideas & knowledge on TPM kaizens implemented across manufacturing industries, CII – TPM Club India organized the 26th Kaizen Conference cum Compeon at New Delhi with 40 companies presenng 70 innovave kaizen ideas. Such Kaizen Conferences help Indian Industries showcase their innovave ideas in the field of manufacturing improvements.

CII's annual benchmarking excellence award, the CII-EXIM Bank Award for Business Excellence has been already announced. Over the years, this Award process has come to be highly regarded as a rigorous process to obtain an external perspecve on one's Organisaonal Performance. A trained Assessor team devotes over 1,000 hours for applicaon review. The most encouraging part is the Feedback Report which contains each applicant's Strengths and Opportunies for improvement. Many organizaons use these observaons as crucial inputs for their Strategy planning and Review processes.

The fact that ll date there have been only nine Award winners is tesmony to the fact that the Award process, besides being fair, is very rigorous. Besides the CII-EXIM Bank Award for Business Excellence, the Instute has also iniated two other recognion schemes; BE Star Recognions and Start Icon Recognions. For those who have recently embarked on their excellence journeys, BE Star Recognions evaluates their aainments in Customer Management , Operaon Management and People Management. The purpose of the Start Icon Recognions is to promote excellence and build compeveness in the Small & Medium Business sector by

recognizing Performance Excellence through an Assessment aimed at Corporate Transformaon. I invite organizaons to parcipate in the 2016 Award process by subming their applicaons by April end to judge for themselves their excellence levels and chart further improvements.

The Instute not only sets the stage for Industry compeon through the Award processes, it connues to create capability within Indian companies. The first Assessor Training Program for 2016 was held at the L&T Leadership Development Academy at Lonavala with parcipaon by senior managers from Raychem RPG Group, JSW Steel Salem Works, CESC Kolkata, NSE, Hydac, Sansera Engg, Sterlite, and Asian Paints.

To further strengthen shop-floor capabilies for the manufacturing sector, the Instute organized a Cerficaon Course on Lean Manufacturing - The Toyota Way at Volvo Construcons Equipment in Bangalore. This intensive course, together with case studies, presented Lean Methodologies with many praccal tools, techniques , concepts and working methods. The five day intensive Lean Expert and Six Sigma Black Belt cerficaon course aimed at building capability in Lean Six Sigma Concepts and Methodology. 35 Six Sigma Batches have been trained by CII IQ ll date.

Three important Awareness workshops on the revised and updated ISO 9001 Standard was also conducted to draw focus and aenon on process quality and the improvement cycle as core concepts in an effort to link quality management with business outcomes. The training programme on Laboratory Management & Internal Audit as per ISO 17025 idenfied the need to establish a control on measurement system for developing competence and carry out tests and / or calibraon including sampling by laboratories. This internaonal standard is used by laboratories in developing their management system for quality, administraon and technical operaons.

The Seminar on Achieving Zero Breakdown through Planned Maintenance with the objecve to improve the availability of machines / equipment for producon and achieve qualitave improvements to achieve zero breakdowns was well received by member industries. The training workshop on “Why - Why Analysis: TPM Way” as a tool for industries to idenfy Real Root Cause of the problems and related problem solving techniques on how to develop correcve acon plans which could be immediately applied to their shop floors was much appreciated.

WORKSHOP ON WHY-WHY ANALYSIS: TPM WAYPresent worldwide compeon among industries has made their managements to pursue proven tools, techniques and methodologies to keep them ahead in the race. In this scenario TPM methodology has established itself as a backbone of manufacturing excellence for industries. Many scholars, experts, researchers on this subject consider it as a medical science of machines.

Its concepts and pillars have been proven as a successful tool that can easily work to idenfy the causes for breakdowns, quality defects, and producvity related problems together with other parameters which are the key issues for an industry to solve. These causes become more crical issues if industry has a mulstage system of manufacturing, engineering or automobiles products. The more number of processes and acvies on shop floor, the more challenging is the supervisors' job to idenfy the root causes.

ISO 9001:2015 - WORKSHOP ON UNDERSTANDING ANDIMPLEMENTING KEY CHANGESCII Instute of Quality organized the One Day Awareness workshop on revised & updated ISO 9001 Standard. The programme was held on 6 January, Gurgaon; 12 January, Mumbai; 19 January 2016 at Bangalore. Mr Anupam Kaul, Principal & Head - QMS, CII-IQ was the faculty for the program.

The evoluon of ISO 9001 standard from 1987, through four version changes, has seen a constant endeavor in making Quality a key driver for business success. While the first two versions successfully introduced and embedded the philosophy of organizaon wide parcipaon and discipline, the next two versions brought process quality and the improvement cycle as core concepts.

Parcipants of the Workshop on Understanding & Implemenng key changes in ISO 9001:2015 held on

6 January 2016 in Gurgaon

However organizaons connued to see quality as an addional effort to the normal business process flow. The link of quality management with business outcomes was sll missing. The revised and updated ISO 9001 standard aempts to overcome these perceived shortcomings by emphasizing on the need to align the QMS with the external and internal contexts of the organizaon, while connuously aending to related risks and opportunies that have a bearing on sustainable success.

These two crical approach changes coupled with more flexible and parcipate quality management, higher emphasis on people resources, recognizing the importance of break-through improvements and creang a knowledge centered organizaon, redefine the new QMS. The workshop brought insight into the new concepts and guided parcipants on how to create a customized QMS that would be central to the success of their organizaon.

FOUR DAY TRAINING PROGRAMME ON LABORATORYMANAGEMENT & INTERNAL AUDIT AS PER ISO 17025CII Instute of Quality organized the Four Days Training Programme on Laboratory Management & internal Audit as per ISO/IEC 17025:05 at Pune & Bangalore. The programme was held on 19-22 January 2016 in Pune with 17 parcipants by Mr Vivek Ghodke, Consultant CII-IQ and on 27-30 January 2016 in Bangalore with 15 parcipants by Mr Sudhindra, Consultant CII-IQ as the faculty for the program.

Indian Industry has come of age in praccing quality since the quality movement started in 1987. In order to achieve more business success in the open market, Indian Industry is following the Total Quality Management (TQM) approach. For adopng TQM, the manufacturing sector has to establish an efficient and effecve control in measurement system that includes Laboratory Measurement System. This results in producon of products with lesser and lesser rejecon and more acceptances to customers.

In order to establish a control on measurement system in the laboratory ISO / IEC has brought out a standard ISO/IEC 17025:05 for developing competence and carry out tests and / or calibraon including sampling. This standard covers tesng and calibraon using standard methods, non-standard methods and laboratory development methods. This standard is applicable to first, second and third party laboratories to carry out tests and / or calibraon. This internaonal standard is for use by laboratories in developing their management system for quality, administraon and technical operaons.

The main objecve of this course was to enable parcipants to understand the requirements of all clauses of ISO/IEC 17025:05 for personnel competency and lab capability so that they could be implemented and maintained by laboratories intending to generate tesng and/or calibraon report/cerficate acceptable by customers, naonally and internaonally.
