Laad Bazaar or Choodi Bazaar is a market popular for bangles located on one of the four main roads that branch out from Charminar. The bazaar got its name form Laad – meaning lacquer – that is used to make bangles. In this 1 kilometre long shopping strip, most of the shops sell Hyderabadi stoned-studded bangles, pearls, imitation jewelry, bridal wear and saris.

Hyderabad has been famous for its bangles and Laad Bazaar presents a glimpse of the bygone eras. It is said that the market has been there since the Qutub Shahis and the Nizams era and thus presents a living heritage of the city.

Charminar is synonymous with the history of Hyderabad. The name ‘Charminar’ is derived from two distinct words ‘Char’ and ‘Minar’, which mean four towers. Falaknuma Palace was built in 1893 by Nawab Vikar-ul-Umra, the then prime minister of Hyderabad and reflects his love for palaces and architecture. Viqar-ul-Umra used the palace as his private residence until it was handed over to the 6th Nizam of Hyderabad around 1897-1898.

The palace was built with Italian marble and stained-glass windows and covers an area of 1,011,500 square feet. No expense was spared to create it – a European masterpiece on the plains of central India. The dining hall can seat 101 guests. The chairs are made of carved rosewood with green leather upholstery.

The palace fell into disuse in the 1950s until it was restored and made into a luxury hotel by the Taj Group of Hotels. Though Taj Falaknuma Palace is one of the most important places to visit in Hyderabad, it is not open for general public.

Hussain Sagar lake connects the twin-cities Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The largest man-made lake in Asia, Hussain Sagar lake was excavated in 1562 during the reign of Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah. Built on the tributary of River Musi, the lake is named after Hussain Shah Wali. At the middle of the lake, is a tall statue of Lord Buddha, made up of white granite. The lighting show at the statue is a visual treat.

Bordered by Indira Park in the east, Sanjeevaiah Park in the north and Lumbini Park in the south, the lake presents a setting quite rare to find in the middle of any city. There is also a bund on its banks, which was built to control the flow of water. This artificial lake now beautifies the city gracefully. Not just for beauty, it is also known for its historical connection.

Hussain Sagar, also called Tank Bund, is situated in the center of the city and is easily accessible from every corner of the city.

IEIA Open Seminar is a prominent event of the Indian Exhibition Industry that brings together IEIA members and Exhibition Industry leaders from India and abroad to discuss trends, pressing issues and potential solutions. As an active member organization of IEIA, it is our pleasure to host IEIA Open Seminar 2018 at HITEX from 9 – 11 May.

During the 3-day event, government officials, business leaders and eminent speakers from the Global Exhibition Industry will share their enriching experiences and expertise with the delegates.

HITEX and the ecosystem around it have shaped up well to host international events. Hyderabad is well connected to both national and international travelers. HITEX’s state-of-the-art infrastructure, connectivity to the airport, experienced team and abundance of hotels in the vicinity make it an ideal venue for the IEIA Open Seminar 2018.

My team and I look forward to welcoming the leaders, colleagues and friends at IEIA Open Seminar 2018.

Let’s look in detail about the Open Seminar and other events at HITEX in the pages inside.

The world is changing fast and so is the Exhibition Industry. Every year, we are facing new challenges, adopting new systems and scaling new successes.

The size of Global Exhibition Industry is $55 billion with over 31,000 major exhibitions and trade shows taking place every year. The Indian Exhibition Industry is estimated at INR 25,000 crore with over 700 major trade shows witnessing a growth rate of 12 % per year.

Exhibition Industry is an effective catalyst for the growth of a nation’s economy. Exhibitions have a significant impact on local and national economies by generating revenues through direct spends on advertising, local hotels, restaurants, retail, tourism, travel, transport etc. Exhibitions create employment in the venues, organizers and the support services.

Asia shows highly positive forecasts for 2018, thanks to the growth in the domestic economies of the region. Investment in infrastructure is paying off and boosting the development of new exhibitions.

India is emerging as a sought after destination for exhibitions in Asia. To ponder upon the challenges, opportunities and goals, every year Indian Exhibition Industry Association (IEIA) organizes its flagship event IEIA Open Seminar.
