Easter Isn’t Just A Day

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation. 1 Peter 1:3 As I write this it is almost Easter Sunday. We will pull out all the stops to celebrate the Resurrection at First United Methodist Church with an awesome Cantata from our musicians and brunch between the services. We will most likely have some

extra friends and family members join us for worship. Some of us will wear new outfits and try to look our sharpest. After church many of us will go home and eat special meals with our families and hunt Easter Eggs. We will eat chocolate rabbits. The next day we will put away the Easter baskets and decorations. But Easter isn’t just one day. Easter is a reason we should love with expectation. One of my favorite Easter Hymns is “Easter People Raise Your Voices.” The lyrics include these lines: Easter people, raise your voices, Sounds of heaven in earth should ring. Christ has brought us heaven's choices; Heavenly music, let it ring. Alleluia! Alleluia! Easter people, let us sing. According to 1 Peter, the resurrection changes everything. You and I are all called to ALWAYS be Easter People. We are called to be people who know sin and death do not have the final word. We are called to be people who are filled with hope and expecting God to do amazing things among us. I pray Easter will not be a one day holiday. Instead, may it be a life style. News Around the Church

Book of the Month

Weird Because Normal Isn’t Working

“Normal people are stressed, overwhelmed, and exhausted. Many of their relationships are, at best, strained and, in most cases, just surviving. Even through we live in one of the most prosperous places on Earth, normal is still living paycheck to paycheck and never getting ahead...Simply put, normal isn’t working.” Journey with author and pastor Craig Groeschel as he shares a Christ-centered philosophy on everything from money to scheduling to purity. A philosophy that will help you break out of the normal rut and live according to the rhythms of God’s grace and truth of his Word.

Trustee’s Report

Trustee Newsletter Notes- March 23, 2018

1. Several people have requested handrails from the Sanctuary floor to the alter and pulpit level. Prime Contracting met with us to review the possibility of installing oak rails. They will submit a proposal and cost estimate.

2. Additional bids for the resealing and striping our parking lots are expected soon. Hopefully, we can get a reasonable quote so we can proceed to get this work complete.

3. The LCM room 202 / “Frog Room” has had the wall repaired and repainted. The new light blue paint really pops. The room looks great. Take a peak. 4. Work is also being done in the basement. The LCM “Tiger room” had water damage to the south wall some time ago. New dry wall is being installed to the damaged area and it has been repainted. 5. Spring is here? It really needs to get warmer.

When it is warm and the boiler will not be in use, it can be shut down. Wilkinson Heating will drain the system and replace one of the

Circulator pumps. Having both pumps available will make hearts and minds feel warmer next winter. Evert Wolfe Trustee Board Chair

Little Children’s Ministry News

April, 2018

March was a very productive Chapel Time Month. Ms. Nicole was able to teach the children about Easter through various methods. Her lessons followed the story of Easter from Palm Sunday all the way through Jesus’ ascension into Heaven. The children made palm leaves as well as act some of the stories out. Ms. Nicole also used Resurrection Eggs in her lessons. Children opened new eggs each day to find items that related to the story. LCM also participated in Dr. Seuss week. This is a week-long tribute to the author. The children love to dress like him and have the wonderful stories read to them by their teachers. St. Patrick’s Day was also celebrated in March. Each class celebrated with fun, food, and everything green! Other upcoming events include LCM picture days which will be held in the Fellowship Hall From 8-11 a.m. on April 5th & 6th. Every child will have the opportunity to have their picture taken. Preschool Graduation pictures will be taken that day as well. The INAEYC Conference is approaching fast. The staff is looking forward to learning some new techniques to use in their classrooms. Also, “Week of the Young Child” is April 16th-20th. We usually celebrate this with spirit week for the children and daily teacher recognition. The “Project Playground” fund is growing. Our grand total, including $4,055.03 in candy bar sales and $300 in donations, is $7,355.03!!! Our goal is $15,000! Due to the condition of the gray climbing mountain currently on the playground, LCM is planning to purchase the climbing dome as soon as possible. We will proceed with purchasing each item as we can afford it. We were very pleased with the candy bar sales. The majority of LCM children sold the candy. Our top sellers were as follows: 1st Place Kaydence Shedron Sold 10 boxes ($600) Prize: Fire 7 Tablet 2nd Place Aryan Smith Sold 9 boxes ($540) Prize: Atari Game Console 3rd Place Tie Alex Helton & Adriana Aviles Sold 7 boxes ($420) Prize: Free Week of Daycare
