Romans 10:14-15 (NIV)
How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in?
And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard?
And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?
And how can they preach unless they are sent?
As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"
Blessings,
I have really enjoyed meeting with friends from church for a brief prayer and then going out into the town of Gettysburg to pray as
we walk and talk. There are many challenges in our little town made up of residents, businesses and the 10’s of thousands of visitors
that journey to Gettysburg every year. Last time I counted, there were 8 ice cream shops in town, and yes, we have stopped at some
of these to try them out!
We have found many vacationers receptive to our hellos and some have stopped to visit. We have also been able to visit with some
locals, pray for shared needs, hand out tracs and bracelets and invite some to church. Other times, we have simply prayed for our
businesses, churches, homes, community services, etc. as we walk by. These Hot Summer Nights remind me of the importance of
praying continually for our neighborhood and to be better prepared to give the reason for the hope that I have in Christ.
After living in my neighborhood for 17 years, I continue to be amazed at the quantity and quality of interactions that I have been
having with my neighbors this summer. I believe this largely in part due to Blesseveryhome.com which has helped me, from the
comfort of my home, to pray for five of my neighbors every day. God is using this to grow my compassion, allowing me to see my
neighbors in a fresh way. A whole new area of ministry is opening up to those who have been there all of this time!
My prayer is that God will awaken us to the ministry needs that are all around us in our neighbors, coworkers and school mates. There
are many who do not know Jesus or no longer attend church who are trying to make sense of life. Their eyes are seemingly covered
over to the wonders of Jesus. May the Lord move our hearts to be a word of encouragement, a helping hand, and a voice of reason
and wisdom. May we ask the Lord to remove the veil so that they can clearly see God’s love and the fallacy of living apart from Him.
As His ambassadors and representatives, may we lovingly and humbly point to the One who can truly help them through this life and
carry them into the next. God is wanting to use us even though we may feel inadequate. We are not alone. His Spirit empowers and
leads us!

Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God,
who loved me and gave himself for me.
What a great summer this has been! I Seriously can’t even try to complain about the weather this year, and all of our outdoor activities thus far have
had great weather! We had a blast with the obstacle course night and other events in August including the South Mountain Fair. Thank you for keeping prayers coming for the youth at FBC. We have a more specific prayer request, if you all will join us in seeking God’s direction for more middle school Sunday school teachers to start in September (preferably), we would be very grateful. Our hope is to have more teachers for this group so that we can make a rotation so that the weight is more evenly distributed and the current teachers, Carolyn Tuckey and Tracy Thomas
(Tracy finished the end of August) can be fed and invested into as well. Please see Faith or myself if you feel God calling you to teach this awesome group of students. They are hungry and eager to learn and their questions are awesome and exciting to answer! Check out the events listed
below, and don’t forget to sign up your students and/or pray for these events!

Starting this month we are taking intentional steps to minister to students at Gettysburg
College. As a part of reaching out to the college-aged men and women, we recognize
that the transient nature of the demographic requires that we review how we minster to
them every 3-4 years. To give an example, most college students at Gettysburg this year
do not have a driver’s license. This is largely due to their work ethic that does not allow
them time enough to get one. The result is that they are rarely, if ever, away from
campus and do not get chances to get to church.
Thankfully, they have the Disciple Makers ministry that we are working closely with. This
ministry, however, is not the church and is mostly an in-depth Bible study. The Disciple
Makers leader, Jordan Eyster, has asked that we provide for these students in ways that
they cannot.
What these students need most is the fellowship and hospitality of the church. We need
the church to volunteer once or twice a month to pick up 1-3 students on Sunday
morning. We need parents and grandparents to take these students out to lunch and
become their friend. By building meaningful relationships with this group of students,
we can have a greater influence at this point in their lives than their friends or even their
parents. These students crave intergenerational connections that give them a chance to
decompress from school and enjoy grace.
If you are unable to volunteer, please tell us about someone who can. This is an
amazing opportunity we have to impact tomorrow’s leaders and help them move from a
works-based love to a grace-based love.
Respectfully,
Sean D. Fitzgerald

We had a wonderful time once
again with the cycling group on
August 1st. This fun group joined
us for a great meal of Pastor Carl’s
chicken and BBQ Ribs along with
lots of other great side dishes. They
told us of the work they are doing
with Restoring Hope Ministries in
the DR Congo and shared some
wonderful stories of God’s
provision. They spent the night
here at our church and were on
their way early the next morning.
They told us that they looked
forward to stopping at our church
all year after being treated so well
last year and look forward again,
next year to seeing us. It was truly a
blessing! Lots of laughter and fun.

An old man going a lone highway,
Came at the evening, cold and gray,
To a chasm, vast, and deep and wide,
Through which was flowing a sullen tide.
The old man crossed in the twilight dim;
The sullen stream had no fear for him;
But he turned, when safe on the other side,
And built a bridge to span the tide.
"Old man," said a fellow pilgrim, near,
"You are wasting strength with building here;
Your journey will end with the ending day;
You never again will pass this way;
You've crossed the chasm, deep and wide-
Why build you this bridge at the evening
tide?"
The builder lifted his old gray head:
"Good friend, in the path I have come," he
said,
"There followeth after me today,
A youth, whose feet must pass this way.
This chasm, that has been naught to me,
To that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be.
He, too, must cross in the twilight dim;
Good friend, I am building this bridge for
him."

The foundational truth of our sexuality is
being challenged in our society. How do
we respond biblically to this war on
sexuality? How do we view the gift of
sexuality when we are single or married?
How can we evangelize and help our
youth who are growing up in this sex
crazed world?
Many of the presenters in the video
conference are on the front lines when it
comes to these issues. All are actively
speaking, writing, encouraging and
equipping Christians to get off the bench
and enter the battlefield.
At this conference, you will receive solid
teaching from God’s word that will
encourage you. Books and other
teaching materials will be made available
to you after the conference.

Make a difference in a child’s life! Volunteer at AWANA.
Children look forward to AWANA all week. It’s where they hear the gospel and learn the
bible in a fun setting. Complete with games, theme nights and special events. But
AWANA can’t happen without dedicated volunteers who serve each week. Volunteers
make all the difference in these children’s lives.
Whether you like to teach, be a listener, work with kids, play with puppets or keep
records, we have a place for you. One thing is for sure, you’ll have fun!
Will you help us reach more kids with the gospel?
At FBC, AWANA is every Wednesday evening from 6-8pm Sept-April.
