Mayor’s Report A lot has happened since last month’s report. A quick overview is as follows: Final interviews for the top 6 candidates for the CEO posi on have been conducted. All candidates were of a

high calibre and the final decision was not easy. We are pleased to announce that Mr. James Holyman has won the posi on. He commences on April 29th. We will organise a public meet and greet later in May for our community to welcome James. In the interim, Deputy CEO Nick Brown will be stepping in to the role.

We have been working on the Community Plan (Strategic Plan) with the help of Jeff Tate. This is a terrific process and our group con nues to work together in a respec ul and construc ve manner.

As per the Adver ser 6th March 2019, we have the unenviable posi on of being first on the most complaints per capita list for last financial year (141 complaints per 10,000 people). This gives current elected members a benchmark from which to work from in the coming years. It would be great if we could disappear from this list altogether in 2019‐2020.

We have met with Telstra to discuss possible op ons of reloca ng the proposed tower. There are no promises with this but we will be trying hard to have the tower moved to a safer loca on for our airstrip users.

Selec ons for the Directors role for CCOWS will be underway shortly. The marina channel has had some emergency dredging to ensure safe passage for our fishing fleet and

recrea onal users. It has highlighted many issues in and around our marina and we have a lot of work to do in this term of Council to address them.

There have been some very early mee ngs regarding the possibility of developing a conference centre at the bowling club/current toilet site on the foreshore. This discussion is in it’s infancy and will involve the community and all stakeholders as the idea takes shape.

Approximately 45 people a ended the Bray Hall recently to discuss the op on of star ng a Neighbourhood Watch both at Bray and in Robe. The mee ng showed that rural crime is significant in the area and the discussion will be con nuing in the near future.

Nat Skeer and I are organising a volunteer’s morning tea for 24th May which is the end of Volunteers Week. Further details and invites to follow.

We are all well aware of the awful outcome of Fury on the Bay. Council have organised some flowers and a copy of the “Almost an Island” book to go to both the Ashton and Hacke families on behalf of the Robe community. Everyone involved in this event have both given and received a great deal of ongoing support throughout this sad me.

The Men’s Shed ran a Suicide Preven on Awareness evening on Thursday 14th March. The sta s cs around suicide are appalling – twice the na onal road toll, 8 people per day, 75% of which are male. The Robe community has been touched by suicide in recent years. More to follow on this important topic later.

Roger’s last day in the office will be Monday 1st April. We wish him every happiness in his new role as house husband to Deb, author, grandfather, dancer, avid Robe footy club supporter and whatever other roles he chooses to pursue in his re rement. We all wish you every happiness, Roger and Deb.

CCOWS Report March is the beginning of Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. The me for harvest, to reap what has been sown.
