Experienced and trained in focused psychological strategies, child centred play therapy, narrative therapy and client centred practices.
Child centred counselling and play therapy is a safe, respectful approach to counselling and emotional healing when talking therapies are not ideal. This therapy can cross barriers of verbal language, cultural diversity and levels of ability. It is a safe therapy for use where trauma is part of the individual’s history and life experience. Also children, teenagers and adults may not have the words or explicit memories to express their experiences and feelings as events occurred at a pre-verbal stage of development.
Some children benefit from intensive support across fewer weeks, When appropriate for the individual client’s needs this is an option.

Where I provide services
My practice is at Aberdeen House in Geelong at 2A
Aberdeen Street, just off Latrobe Terrace. Most
children benefit from the consistency and predictability
of the playroom. If this is an unsafe or undesirable
location please talk with me about other options. I do
not work weekends but am available during the week.
Evening appointments are possible. Intake sessions
are usually done at the client’s home. Regular parent
consult sessions can also be done at the home.
I acknowledge the First Nations custodians of the lands on which I live and work and pay
respects to Elders past and present.
Culturally aware
My approach is congruent with
traditional child raising and learning
practices of First Nation’s Peoples
around the world. For example:
A relationship of unconditional
positive regard is the core of the
process and practice
Exploration as a way of learning
and growing is encouraged
Parent/carer is/are involved
Emotions can be expressed
freely and in the moment
The child moves forward at their
own pace, in a supported
environment based on trust and
acceptance

Goals Based Treatment Plans
Each client has an individually developed treatment plan with clear goals. NDIS client plans goals will be the basis of developing the counselling treatment plan. Progress against those goals is reviewed every 5 to 6 sessions to ensure needs are being met. Any changes to goals based on this review are incorporated in future planning.
These reviews also provide the opportunity for feedback as part of quality assurance.
Mitigating Risk
Risk assessment is a part of each intake process and
reviewed at the same time as progress against the
goals.

carers/parents can contact me via email at any time
though I only respond during office hours. They can
ring or text and leave a message which I respond to
during office hours. I do not offer any support or re-
sponse at weekends.

tions for emergency support between sessions in
the event that I am not immediately available.

wellbeing plans are part of the counselling process for
all clients. Can be shared with client /carerr/parent
consent.

sider them or someone else at risk of harm, confiden-
tiality does not apply as my commitmetnt is to do no
harm. of limits of confidentiality should I consider
them or others at risk of harm or danger.
