Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. 31 “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah…” Jeremiah 31:31 (ESV)

As we make our way through Lent this Spring, we have a special treat for you all. I am excited to an-nounce that on April 3rd at 7:00pm, we will have a special Lenten presentation by Jeffry Siegel called “Messiah in the Passover.” Jeff, a Messianic Jew, came to faith when he was 21 years old. Through a col-lege roommate, he began to see that the promised New Covenant as seen in Jeremiah 31:31-34 had al-ready been revealed through Yeshua (Jesus). Dr. Siegel presents a powerful visual message for how God frees his people from bondage and sin through the atoning work of Jesus Christ. This will not be an experience you want to miss. We have been so blessed this Lenten season. Through the inspirational preaching of John 17 by men in our congregation, through the singing of hymns by our youth, through the reading of Scripture from our confirmands, and also as we receive this special treat on April 3rd. Jeff Siegel’s presentation on the Passover is the perfect event to invite a Jewish friend to, or anyone of the faith. We cannot fully understand the Last Supper without understanding Passover and I fully expect that Jeff Siegel’s presentation will greatly deepen our experience in Holy Communion on Sunday mornings. I look forward for spending this rich and powerful evening with you. And as always, who loves you? God loves you, and I love you. And it’s a privilege to be your pastor. God bless you!

Freed Youth Group is for ages 7th-12th

Grade youth. It's a time for them to be

together and have fun. Every night

consists of supper, games, worship, and a

lesson. Please note that there will be two

different meeting times in April. On April

10th, we will meet at 5:30 due to Lent

services which are at 7:00. Then starting

on April 24th, we will go back to our

regular meeting time of 6:30. As always,

ARLINGTON FOOD PANTRY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Calvary Free Lutheran Church helps at the Arlington Food Pantry located at the United Meth-

odist Church the second Tuesday every month from 2:30-4:30. We have volunteers from our

church who are so wonderful and giving of their time to help with this wonderful program. BUT,

we are looking for additional volunteers. If you are willing and able to help out, OR if you have

questions please talk to Heidi.

Thank you to all who volunteer your time, your dedication and your service to helping oth-

ers. Thank you for being the hands and feet of Jesus!

For the readers of the Return To Red River Series, now we have No. 3, “More Than A Dream.” This is the story of Norwegians who emigrated to North Dakota in the 1800s. Now Thorliff is working for a newspaper and finishing his last two years of college at Northfield, MN and Elizabeth has been accepted at a medical school in Chicago. It is an exciting story. “Honey, They’re Playing Our Song,” by Nancy Kennedy is a humorous ap-proach to making harmony in your marriage. The author says: It’s not our com-

patibility that keeps us together, it’s our commitment to Us. It is our resolve that no matter what, we will always be….and that we together will always be one. She goes on to say: But God…Those are my two favorite words in the Eng-lish language. But God looked down from heaven and set his sight on me and

on my family. He said, I have loved you with an everlasting love, and he showed me in the Scriptures how he had sent his Son to die in my place. Then he called me to himself, to serve him and love him all the days of my life, setting me and my family apart as recipients of his blessings and of his amazing grace. Irene & Ora Jay Eash with Tricia Goyer have written a true story of tragedy, loss, and leaving the Amish in “Plain Faith.” These Amish farmers from Indiana had their lives changed in an instant when a semi truck struck the family buggy, killing their two young daughters. The couple turned to their Amish community for comfort but were haunted with the thought they might not see their girls again in heaven if their works weren’t sufficient. .Ora Jay writes: We spent a lot of time trying to please God, to earn our salvation by getting every little detail right--from dress to church to work. When we were living the Amish lifestyle, our hope was in what we did and what we got. With a drastic change in their core belief came the realization they could no longer live in an Amish community that didn’t share the precious truth they now grasp through the redemption of Jesus’ grace. Eliz. Browning: No man can be called friendless who has God and the companionship of good books. Charles W. Eliot: Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers. May Sarton: Any worthwhile piece of fiction or nonfiction, no matter how beloved or detested, teaches the reader something. The real issue is what to read. Daniel Webster, 1823: If religious books are not widely circulated among the masses in this country, I do not know what is going to become of us as a nation. If truth be not diffused, error will be; if God and His Word are not known and received, the devil and his works will gain the ascendancy; if the evangelical volume does not reach every hamlet, the pages of a corrupt and licentious literature will; if the power of the Gospel is not felt throughout the length and breadth of the land, anarchy and mis-rule, degradation and misery, corruption and darkness, will reign without mitigation or end. “Fully Armed,” by Ron Gustafson ,is a slim paperback which tells of the farm accident which took the author’s right arm and shoulder when he was nine. It was devastating for a boy who wanted in the worst way to be like his athletic brothers. He became a stand-out basket ball player, but after a knee injury ended his collegiate basketball career he redirected his energy to becoming a business owner, motivational speaker and author. This is both an inspiring and encouraging story of the turn-ing of a set-back into a come-back. Christina Schofield has written a memoir “My Life and Lesser Catastrophes,” a memoir, which is an unflinchingly honest journey of faith. As the motorcycle she and her husband were riding hit a patch of loose gravel, the bubble around her smooth Christian life popped. The safety nets she thought she had based on unquestioning obedience to God, unyielding faith, a ministry-focused life--broke as their bodies were hurled from the bike. From that moment, her emotional search for the God she thought she knew began as she cared for her paralyzed husband. Christina writes: I realized that God is always trying to remind us that the uglier this world gets, the more we should keep working toward heaven, where He has a home for us. Michael Rokenbrodt has accepted a call to be an AFLC Missionary. He will be commissioned at the AFLC Annual Conference in June of 2018 but begins his service in Uganda January of 2018. Michael will be serving as a seasonal missionary, meaning he will be on the AFLC mission field for only part of each year. From January to May, he will be teaching pastors and church leaders with our other Ugandan missionaries. During the remaining part of the year, he will be employed at Luther Island Bible Camp and doing deputa-tion. He has worked at this camp annually for 12 years and wishes to contin-ue his involvement in their ministry. Michael is a member of Zion Free Lutheran Church in Wadena, MN. Michael spent six years teaching English and theology full time while continuing camp ministry in the summers. August of 2015 marked for him the beginning of two Short Term Assistant terms through Journey Missions. He worked alongside Micah Berger in northern Uganda and with the Ambassador Institute curricu-lum. It is Michael’s goal to resume what they had been accomplishing togeth-er during his time as an STA, except now as an AFLC Missionary. His gifts in writing, speaking, and drama are qualities that will amplify the efforts of AFLC Missions in Uganda.
