Have you ever wanted to know what’s going through the heads of your favourite creators while they are making videos?

Sadly I’m no telepath.

Luckily for you however, I can tell you exactly what I was thinking while filming and editing our work at Press F, so enjoy!

Ollie.

Way back in the far off land that was December 2019,

Ruby and I went to a pop-up arcade at Bristol Harbourside. It featured around 100 games that were free to play (after paying the entry fee of course) and a whole bunch of craft beers that certainly were not free.I had one pint and it was £7. It tasted alright, not sure if it tasted £7-for-one-pint though...I said in the video, I had likely only played 10 of the games available, and I have to say it was both strange and exciting to see so many games, free

to play, that have been around for decades, that I had never even heard of.I would say it was a kid in candy store type situation, but I reckon it was more like finding out your favourite band actually released 90 more records than you had listened to. That is to say, incredible.

Interestingly, I almost decided against filming at the arcade. That would have been a terrible mistake because it turned out to be my favourite video of this month.

Each of these ten games left enough of a lasting

impression on me to be picked out 15 or so years later. That is except for Spongebob: The Movie: The Game, which I only played for the first time a few months ago...And also except Piglet’s Big Game because that’s technically Ruby’s

favourite PS2 game and not mine...Ok but the rest really did make my childhood better.

Among these games are some that I’d put on a top ten games of all time list, let alone PS2 games.Star Wars Battlefront 2 would definitely be there simply because it is my favourite game of all time.

The Playstation 2 came out at such a perfect time for me. We got ours just as I was getting to the age where you can actually play games instead of smashing all the buttons wildly and crying....Yeah no actually you can do that at any age.My point is: I was lucky enough to grow up with what is arguably the best console of all time.

The Games:

1 Piglet’s Big Game

2 Lego Star Wars

3 Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

4 The Simpsons: Hit and Run

5 The Simpsons Road Rage

6 Spongebob: The Movie: The Game

7 Downhill Domination

8 Flatout 2

9 Ultimate Spiderman

10 Star Wars Battelfront 2

Drenge’s debut record blew me away the first time I heard it and listening to it today feels almost nostalgic, even though I still love it just as much. This is the Sea was a bit like finding hidden treasure. Or at least being given hidden treasure. It’s strange to think that this music had been around for 30 years before I heard it. I’d been missing out for so long!Alive 2007 is basically just a long remix of all of Daft Punk’s music, but, at the risk of sounding like a loser, they really knocked it out of the park here. The only way it could be better is if it’s being played live by Daft Punk themselves. Weezer’s

Blue Album reminds me of one specific holiday I went on probably ten years ago. I remeber it because Holiday in the Sun came on and I thought “Woah, that’s where I am right now, how crazy is that.”This record is also essential Alt-Rock listening, so you’d better do it already.Elephant is certainly the White Stripe’s most famous album and as such is the one I first listened to. While I do prefer songs from their other records, this is the one that introduced me to them, and White Stripes as a band led to me discovering lots of what is now my favourite music. So it was first pick for this list of course.

I could say that picking these five records was super

hard and I had to create my own point system. Points would be granted for music technicality, originality, passion and personal impact.I could say that I spent hours and hours re-listening to each record

over and over in order to make sure I didn’t miss a single beat and kept a ridiculously detailed set of notes for each song.Sure, I could say all that, but the truth is, picking these five recods from my collection was really easy and for one simple reason:

They are my favourite.

Video rental isn’t really something people talk about often these days, except if they are referring to it as something to do.But it’s always an “oh yeah, I used to do that when I was a kid, it was always good fun” and nothing more.It is strange to think about how an industry so popular can fade into memory so quickly. In the episode, Ruby and I talked about why renting should still be a thing people do.Our two main points were that video stores tend to have a much larger selection, and that you have the opportunity to see something you otherwise might never hear of through asking for recommendations.

Talking about selection, we as a generation, if not a race, seem to have come to accept that the only movies we can watch are ones we already own or whatever is on Netlfix this month. This very much isn’t the case, considering our local store has around 20,000 movies to choose from at any given time, and that number is only going to go up.

In fact, I have had a personal hand in increasing their library. All it took was a request for hit 00s movie Like Mike, in which actor/rapper Lil’ Bowow comes across a pair of Michael Jordan’s sneakers that get struck by lightning and then grant the wearer his basketball skills.I know, why wouldn’t they have it?Anyway, after the intense laughter had died down, the guy behind the desk, who also happened to be the store co-owner, immediately placed an order and I was watching in no time (about a week). Talk about service.
