Please join us in prayer this week for :

Easter Sunday Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church April 21, 2019

From the Pastor: Happy Easter, my brothers and sisters in the Risen Christ!

In Crossing the Threshold of Hope, Saint John Paul II wrote about the cause of our joy today:

The Gospel, above all, is a great joy for the salva!on of man. The Creator of man is also his Redeemer. Salva!on not only confronts evil in each of its exis!ng forms in this world but proclaims victo-ry over evil. “I have conquered the world,” says Christ (cf. Jn 16:33). The full promise of these words is found in the Paschal Mystery. During the Easter Vigil the Church sings with exulta!on: “Oh happy fault, which gained for us so great a Redeemer!” Therefore, the cause of our joy is to give us the strength to defeat evil and to embrace the divine filia!on which cons!-tutes the essence of the Good News. God gives this power to hu-mankind through Christ. “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.” (cf. Jn 3:17) The work of redemp!on is to elevate the work of crea-!on to a new level. Crea!on is permeated with a redemp!ve sanc!fica!on, even a diviniza!on. It comes as if drawn to the sphere of the divinity and of the in!mate life of God. In this realm the destruc!ve power of sin is defeated. Indestruc!ble life, re-vealed in the Resurrec!on of Christ, “swallows,” so to speak, death. “Where, O death, is your victory?” asks the apostle Paul, with his eyes fixed on the Risen Christ (1 Cor 15:55)

Do not be sad, be joyful. We can have faith in Jesus. Trust Him with all your heart and your most precious ones.

With love and prayers, Fr. Francis

OUR BEAUTIFUL RIBBONS OF PRAYER Our Lady of the Sacred Heart is a family, a community, that cares, loves and prays for each other. The power of our prayer community was visible to everyone who entered our Church and Chapel during the last weeks of Lent with purple ribbons streaming from the porch rails .

In addi"on to asking each of you to remember the collec"ve inten"ons captured on our ribbons in your personal prayer, the inten"ons wri%en on the ribbons will also be remembered at every Mass through this Holy Season.

Thank you for filling the rails with ribbons as a powerful and visible symbol of our belief in the strength of a community that prays together.

When the ribbons are removed they will be respec=ully burned, with the ash added to the garden around the Blessed Mother

Early in the morning, on the Sunday a<er Jesus was crucified, two women went to the grave where Jesus

had been buried. When they arrived, they found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance and the grave was emp-ty. They were surprised to find an empty grave and wondered what had happened to Jesus.

While they were wondering about this, suddenly, two men in dazzling bright clothes appeared to the two women. Now they were not only surprised -- they were also afraid. The men spoke to the women and said, "Why are you looking for the living among the dead? Jesus is not here, he has risen just as he told you he would."

When the women heard these words, they remembered that Jesus had told them that he would be crucified, but that he would rise again on the third day. Now they were no longer sur-prised at finding an empty grave. They rushed back to tell his disciples -- and everyone else what they had seen.

Some surprises, like playing with a Jack-in-the-Box, make us hap-py, but the best reason we have to be happy today is that the grave is empty, Jesus is alive, and he loves us very much! That is what we celebrate today!

Dear Father, we praise you! Jesus has risen -- just as he said he would! In Jesus' name we pray, amen. Copyright Sermons 4 Kids, Inc. All Rights
