Plentywood native and country artist Jason DeShaw is in Glasgow tonight as part of his 10-city tour across the Montana HiLine. He will be speaking as well as performing his original music at the Glasgow High School Auditorium at 7:00. He is traveling to present Serenity in the Storm, his story of recovery from mental illness and addiction with songs of hope. A typical country boy, Jasons childhood heroes were John Wayne and Johnny Cash. In 2003, Jason graduated from Carroll College with a B.S. in B.S. and embarked on his musical career. Blessed with a superb voice, Jason began to play sold-out

Well they havent gone platinum yet, but theyve gone aluminum! Now at the age of 33, DeShaw is an inspirational speaker sharing his story of living with bipolar disorder. His story of recovery, Serenity in the Storm, is interwoven with original music that soundtracks his lifes struggles and triumphs. Jason DeShaw wrote an update this morning on his website: This tour is off to an amazing start, having performed in Butte, Great Falls, Fort Benton, Havre, and Malta, Montana. As Ive sang and spoke in these places, I am reminded of the connection that we all share. We all hurt, to varying degrees. There is much pain in this world, oftentimes wrapped round in fear. But light can pierce any darkness if compassion opens the door. Every human being, no matter who they are, needs an ounce of hope to remain and flourish in this world. Hope is the great translator between human beings, and we get it from one another. I am exhausted right now following three events in three days, but I rest easy knowing that the more we say the words mental illness, bipolar disorder, and alcoholism, the more we humanize them. And when the world realizes that mental illness is an issue of humanity, we will enter the era of understanding. And with that comes love.

    Jason DeShaw continued from front

As an accomplished recording artist and musical performer from rural Montana, Jason turned to music as his way to deal with his own mental illness. What has emerged from Jasons journey is a performance that is nationally acclaimed.

  • How the fight

    started...

My wife was dropping a little hint about what she wanted for our upcoming anniversary. She says to me, I want something shiny that goes from zero to a hundred and fifty in about three seconds. So I goes out shopping and had it gift wrapped. When she was about to open up the present I decides to give her a little hint. And so I says to her, Darlin, I even did you one better. This baby here will go from zero to three hundred in under three seconds! Gotta admit, she looked a bit puzzled while she unwrapped that purty little package. When she finally got it tore open, there it was, a shiny new digital weight scale. And thats how the fight started

  • Volunteers needed May 2nd On Saturday, May 2nd, volunteers will be on Glasgows south-side intersections of 6th Street and 3rd Avenue, and 4th Street and 2nd Avenue, collecting money to purchase the aerial fireworks to be displayed July 4th at the Valley County Fairgrounds. Collections will begin at 8:00 a.m. If you are able to volunteer for a two-hour shift collecting donations, please contact Gene Hartsock at 2263-1940. Your time will be much appreciated! The public has been extremely generous in the past. This year the fire department purchased an electronic ignition system to light the fireworks which is a lot safer and requires less man power freeing up the number of firemen needed. Now the manpower can be rotated and they can also spend time with their families. The firemen recently passed the boot and made a generous donation to the fireworks display and if you could spare a little extra this year it will be appreciated.

There will be a Benefit for the Curt and Becky Holter family who lost their home to a fire. The Benefit will be held on Saturday, April 25th at the VFW following the jam session. Dinner will be at 5:00 with the live auction at 6:00. If you have any items to donate, please call Shelly George, 406-263-2585. Baked goods are also welcome.
