Divine Mercy Sunday

Dear Parishioners,

In Pope Francis’ apostolic letter, “Miserecordia et Misera” issued at the end of the Year of Mercy last November, he speaks of generating a “culture of mercy” in the church. On this “Divine Mercy Sunday” we take the words of the Holy Father to heart. Mercy is not an idea, or a theory, it is a way of life. How do we practice mercy in a world where often all is permitted, but little is forgiven? How do we really embrace the true meaning of the Pope's words and not reduce mercy to only questions of piety. First of all, mercy demands exercising some self-restraint in expressing our opinions – and certainly never shouting them. It means thinking twice – at least – before we email or tweet. In our reflection, we can allow the fruits of spiritual discernment to blossom forth. Secondly, our spiritual discernment permits us to recognize the realities of life. We are broken people with a limited degree of goodness and failure that can be found in any individual or group.

Thirdly, in our discernment we look for shades of progress not the black and white of final judgement. We always look with hope to the future, discerning the next step and walking, as best we can, together with others, family, friends, fellow parishioners and co-workers, who are making the journey with us. Finally, mercy is God's project and as Pope Francis describes it, the world is “God's construction site.” In humility, we recognize our limits and embrace our desires. In humility, we let go of seeing ourselves as a hero and then we can acknowledge that we all stand in constant need of forgiveness, especially of those who love us most. Pope Francis seems to be inviting us to learn to give deep respect to the reality of life, to recognize the limits of the possibilities open to us at each point. Day by day, we are to seek and deepen our desire for goodness, for conversion, and for closeness to the Lord. It takes persistence and patience to follow his lead. Most of all, this can only be done if we give it time, if we are in tune with the Spirit through prayer Father Mike Meany

Drodzy Parafianie,

Ks. Mike Meany

The Ministry of Sacristan for Funeral Masses

Please consider becoming a Sacristan for funeral masses. This ministry only requires 90 minutes of your time and you can pick the day that’s most convenient for you. Funeral masses have a starting time of 10 am and no later than 12 noon, and are scheduled Monday through Saturday. Your responsibilities include setting up the altar, sanctuary and sacristy before and after the funeral mass. We will show you how simple it is to prepare the tray for the credence and gift tables, light the candles, turn on the lights, arrange the books on the altar & pulpit, and set out the incense and holy water. We invite you to consider this ministry by providing assistance to both the priest and altar servers in preparing the church for mass. If you are interested in this ministry, please call the parish office at 847-966-8145 and ask for Nancy or leave your phone number and someone will contact you.

graces and is so peaceful.

PERPETUAL EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Christ's followers were skeptical when He preached the reality of His Body and Blood as food and drink. St. John said, "many of His disciples withdrew and no longer went about with Him." Seeing this, Jesus asked the Twelve, "Do you also want to leave me?" Simon Peter did not understand any more than those who left Christ, but his loyalty

was more firm. "Lord," he said, "to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life”. We have the "Word of Eternal Life" right here with us day and night in our Adoration Chapel. Do you have something you want to ask Him? There are several hours needing adorers. Please pick one for your personal hour with Him.

Abortion isn't an issue. It's a wicked act of child murder. Freedom of "choice" is such a deceptive way to describe the slaughter of the unborn. Pray and work to end abortion. Let us continue to pray daily: “Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.”

Please return the CRS rice bowls this weekend or next weekend April 29 & 30 during all masses.

Thank You again for your support!!

Welcome to Mrs. Oliva’s First Grade at SJB School! Mrs. Oliva’s first

grade classroom at SJB School is bright, colorful, and welcoming. There are low, child-sized tables and colorful benches and chairs. There is a reading nook in the corner filled with pillows, and even a pair of parakeets. “I try to make it fun for them,” says Mrs. Oliva, who has been teaching for 21 years. “I was one that I couldn’t sit in a desk all day -- it drove me nuts -- and I grew up with the nuns. I said I’m going to be a teacher, and I’m going to change it for my kids.” This year she did exactly that; her classroom eliminated desks completely. “That was a big transition for us, and it’s been wonderful.” She adds, “I want them to enjoy coming to school and not just sit there like ‘ugh’ another day. I wanted it to be exciting and fun but learning as well.” “As you can see I’ve got the little tables, the scoop rockers, the library. It just made it really comfortable for the kids, and they do love it. It’s worked really well.”

Mrs. Oliva says the kids love having the parakeets in the room. “I’m an animal lover, and I’ve had about every single animal you can imagine in my 21 years of teaching. Some kids can’t have animals at home. It gives them a chance to learn to care for animals, and to show love and compassion toward another living thing. They have a chance to take them home during breaks, so if they can’t have a pet that gives them a week or two to experience it. I actually give a lot of pets away because parents say, “Oh, can I keep it?” “It’s very nice.”

Mamy wiele otwartych godzin !!!

Wspólnota Świętego Wincentego a Paolo 23 kwietnia: Druga niedziela Wielkanocy: W dzisiejszej Ewangelii Jezus stoi pośród nas i mówi: "Pokój z wami!"

W czasie Mszy św. zwracamy się do siebie i mówmy: "Pokój z tobą!" Kiedy włożysz swój dar do puszki św. Wincentego a Paulo, powiesz "Pokój z tobą!"
