The Gospel Reading from St. John is what gives us that phrase “Doubting Thomas,” as St. Thomas the Apostle does not experience the real visit from the

Lord, and expresses what seems to be a doubt. However, the real focus should be on that same sense of happiness found in the first two readings. “The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.” This is the same rejoicing to which Peter refers in the Sec-ond Reading and that described by Luke in the First Reading.

In spite of what is viewed as an expression of doubt. St. Thomas who is present when the Lord visits again, and even though Je-sus invites him to place his hand in His wounds, there is no indi-cation Thomas ever does it. He proclaims “My Lord and my God,” and Jesus answers “Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.” That refers to us. We are blessed with these holy accounts of those who witnessed and proclaimed and found the happiness that comes from believing. We must take this Truth, embrace it, and live it out in our lives by sharing it. That, too, is Easter.

Five Reasons to Stay Until the End of Five Reasons to Stay Until the End of Five Reasons to Stay Until the End of Five Reasons to Stay Until the End of MassMassMassMass

Most of us have probably done it at least once or twice. We make a beeline for the door with our heads down after receiving Communion because

we have something important to do.

We hope our pastor and friends won’t notice. And perhaps they don’t. But someone does. Here are five reasons we need to stay until the end of Mass.

Communion is About Communing: In order to commune, we have to actually savor this special time with Him and take a few moments with our Lord.

It’s Not Nice to be Rude: Our motivation to be on time should not be to avoid embarrassment, but because Jesus is waiting to see us.

Mass is Not an Activity on a To-Do-List: It is an invitation to be in a relationship with God, to holiness, to transformation, and not merely a sense of responsibility.

The Final Blessing is important: When a priest, who by his ordination is configured to Christ, gives his final blessing, we are being blessed by God Himself.

You Get MORE Grace: If you are rushing out of church after communion, chances are our disposition is not such that we are reverentially aware of the amazing fact that we are con-suming the body, blood, soul, and divinity of God Himself.

Have you wondered how you might be able to share your

treasure with your Faith Community?

We are looking for parishioners who would be inter-ested in donating one case of our altar wine (12 bot-tles per case). The cost is $60 per case. You can offer it in memory of someone, in honor of someone, or for a special lifetime event. We will also print it in the bulletin. If you would like to be a part of our wine minis-try, please contact Jill at Ext. 29.

'EPICLESIS' This word, which doesn't find its way into our daily conversation very often, means the 'calling down upon' or 'invocation.'

This is one of the most important parts of the liturgy. It calls down the power of the Holy Spirit. This has al-ways been part of the Eucharistic Prayer. In the East-ern rite, this is actually seen as the part that is the con-secration.

Today’s Saint of the Day is Saint GeorgeToday’s Saint of the Day is Saint GeorgeToday’s Saint of the Day is Saint GeorgeToday’s Saint of the Day is Saint George (c. 280 – April 23, 303)

Saint George’s Story Saint George is the object of a vast amount of imagina-tion. There is every reason to believe that he was a real martyr who suffered at Lydda in Palestine, probably before the time of Constantine. The Church adheres to his memory, but not to the legends surrounding his life. That he was willing to pay the supreme price to follow Christ is what the Church believes. And it is enough. The story of George slaying the dragon, rescuing the king’s daughter and converting Libya is a 12th-century Italian fable. George was a favorite patron saint of cru-saders, as well as of Eastern soldiers in earlier times. He is a patron saint of England, Portugal, Germany, Aragon, Catalonia, Genoa, and Venice. Reflection Human nature seems to crave more than cold historical data. Americans have Washington and Lincoln, but we somehow need Paul Bunyan, too. The life of Saint Francis of Assisi is inspiring enough, but for centuries the Italians have found his spirit in the legends of the Fioretti, too. Santa Claus is the popular extension of the spirit of Saint Nicholas. The legends about Saint George are part of this yearning. Both fact and legend are human ways of illumining the mysterious truth about the One who alone is holy.

Bishop Robert Barron’s CATHOLICISM: The Pivotal Players showcases a handful of saints, artists, mystics, and scholars who not only shaped the life of the Church but

changed the course of western civilization.

Journey with Bishop Barron to explore the lasting influ-ence of these Pivotal Players.

Part 1 -

ST. FRANCIS of ASSISI, the Reformer, radically and literally lived as Jesus commanded to transform the Church.

ST. THOMAS AQUINAS, the Theologian, demonstrat-ed that faith and reason are not at odds, as they come from the same source.

ST. CATHERINE of SIENA, the Mystic, gave testimony to the reality of the spiritual dimension here and beyond.

BLESSED JOHN HENRY NEWMAN, the Convert, left a prestigious career to seek and preach the apostolic faith.

G. K. CHESTERTON, the Evangelist, publicly, humbly, and humorously announced the paradoxes and truth of Christianity.

MICHELANGELO, the Artist, dramatically demonstrat-ed that beauty and creativity are a primary route of ac-cess to God.

Journey with Bishop Barron to explore the lasting influ-ence of these Pivotal Players. Our parish journey begins on May 17. For more information, please contact Kelli in the Parish Office. Sign-ups will take place after Masses on the weekend of May 6 and 7.

Church Bulletin Bloopers: Ladies, don’t forget the rummage sale. It’s a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Don’t forget your husbands. The pastor will preach his farewell message, after which the choir will sing, Break Forth Into Joy.
