SUBJECT: Minutes, FRG Meeting, HHC 14th MP BDE, 26 April

1. The FRG meeting for HHC 14th MP BDE was held 26 April 2011 at 1800 in Room 10 at Maglin

Hall. The meeting was chaired by CPT Craig, Company Commander. Mrs. Jeanne Stearns, FRG

Leader, recorded the minutes.

2. Agenda

The meeting agenda was as follows:

I. Introduction

II. Unit Dynamics

III. FRG volunteer positions

IV. FRG funds and fundraisers

V. FRG events

VI. Wrap up

3. Introduction

a. CPT Craig opened the meeting, introducing himself and indicating he took command

approximately 1 month prior.

b. CPT Craig admitted he noticed the unit lacked a real FRG structure, understands the FRG

can sometimes be a hard sell to Soldiers and families, especially in a unit like HHC, where

Soldiers do not deploy routinely or regularly.

c. CPT Craig pointed out there are Soldiers deployed or deploying from HHC, a total of 6

Soldiers currently; families of deployed Soldiers will be contacted regularly by members of

the Chain of Command and FRG leadership, which has been indicated in recent

memorandum.

4. Unit Dynamics

A. HHC is composed of numerous and diverse sections, with Soldiers working throughout and

around the Installation.

B. Soldiers in the unit sometimes do not interact on regular basis with each other, so families

rarely interact or know unit past those immediately in their Soldier’s own section.

5. FRG Positions

A. Current FRG positions include an FRG Leader, Mrs. Stearns, and a Treasurer, Mrs. Craig.

B. FRG requires additional volunteer support, including:

a. Co-Treasurer

b. Section-specific POC

c. Recorder

6. FRG Funds and Fundraisers

A. Current FRG funds total $209.

B. Fundraiser(s) are essential to raising the current funds total. Ideas include:

a. ST Louis Stadium and Six Flags Amusement Park offer group concessions support,

where organizations can provide concessions efforts in stadium and park venues to

receive a percentage of the final profit. HHC could NOT participate by name in this

effort but volunteers willing to work the venues could donate the monies they

receive to HHC, rather.

b. Conducting Bake Sales would probably require a food handling course through Prev

Medicine, which SGT Dressig will check for availability. If enough people are willing

to take the course, Prev Medicine could, probably, bring the class to the unit rather

than volunteers having to adhere to their set schedule.

c. Food sales might be possible at upcoming sporting events (such as unit flag football

and children’s soccer)

d. 4th of July Celebration is coming up. Should check on availability of FRG fundraising

opportunities.

e. Spring Cleaning sales event, where unit would provide space and tables on a rental

basis ($10 for one table and $20 for two tables), might bring in some possible

funds.

f. CPT Craig is familiar with the owner of local flower shop, “Every Blooming Thing”,

who sometimes provides volunteers the chance to earn some additional monies

during peak delivery periods, such as around holidays and the like. [upon checking,

CPT Craig learned current shop owners hope to clarify need for delivery persons

prior to offering the opportunity to our volunteers, want to provide first chance to

those who’ve delivered for them before]

7. FRG Events

A. Various events for FRG to anticipate include:

a. Summer Pool Party

b. Go-Kart park is opening very soon, located next to pool and mini golf course

c. Dining Out

d. Camping or Party at the Lake

e. Thanksgiving and Christmas party

8. Future FRG meetings

A. FRG meetings should be held on a monthly basis, preferably on 3rd Tuesday of each month.

B. Best location for meetings should remain at Maglin Hall

Page 3: April 26 FRG Meeting, HHC 14th MP Bde

a. Child Care is available at other forums/venues, although CYS indicated parents

would have to pay for the two days set aside for FRG events by the CDC. Mrs. Leary

was willing to verify the child care is NOT free.

b. ACS building offers rooms for FRG meetings, with CYS willing to provide STACC care

for children just down the hall.

c. Maglin Hall is preferred as rooms can be divided, with children on one side with a

video movie or coloring/craft activities while meeting is conducted.

9. Wrap-Up

A. CPT Craig thanked everyone for attending, and assured everyone he would be in contact

Next FRG meeting will be held 24 May 2011 at 1800.

POC for these meeting minutes is Jeanne Stearns, FRG Leader, 337-208-7430, or CPT Craig, HHC 14th MP

BDE Company Commander, 573-596-2793.
