Last year the Hershey Company bought into the high-growth premium

chocolate segment, acquiring San Francisco-based Joseph Schmidt Confections

Inc. and Berkeley-based Scharffen Berger Chocolate Maker Inc. for a combined

purchase price of of more than $46 million. This strategic move enabled Her-

shey to leverage its marketing muscle and powerful retail distribution to boost

sales in both companies and broaden Hershey’s presence in this lucrative segment.

Hershey also acquired Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corporation from

San Francisco private equity fi rm TSG Consumer Partners.

We’ll take you inside the deals, and up front with the players, in this informa-

tive and entertaining forum that describes how the deals came together and what

the future looks like for all involved.
