Our church family is indeed blessed to have wonderful young people who participate in the life of our church! On one Sunday of the year, our church family celebrates Youth Sunday! This is a special time when our youth take on leadership roles throughout the church and learn a little more about leadership responsibilities as well as exploring some of the gifts with which God has blessed them.

This year, our youth will be teaching Preschool and Children’s Bible Study classes and will continue to prepare for this experience. It is exciting to see them study and prepare to teach as well as set positive role models for our children.

Our youth will also serve as worship leaders. The Youth

Music Ministry will lead us musically in worship. Youth serving on the youth ministry team will lead us in prayer, responsive readings, and proclamation. Youth will serve as ushers and youth-deacons. We look forward to Youth

Sunday! Our youth have and continue to spend time in prayer and preparation. As you prepare to participate in the worship services, thank God for the gifts of our youth and their willingness to use their gifts in glorifying God. Please join in praying for their continued spiritual development and ask God’s blessings upon each of our young people as they constantly seek God’s will for their lives.

Another important celebration also takes place in the life of our Youth. We recognize our High School

Seniors! Immediately following the 11:00am worship we will honor our seniors at a cookout celebration in the parking lot. You will have the opportunity to contribute notes to these students at this celebration. Beyond these affirmations, continue to pray for them and their families as they face some big transitions in their lives.

Reminder About ParkingReminder About ParkingReminder About ParkingReminder About Parking

There are about 60 parking spaces in our parking lot. That means that most who attend on a typical Sunday morning must park on the streets or in a nearby public parking lot. With nice weather having arrived, wouldn’t it be hospitable if those who are able-bodied consider parking away from the church and leave the parking lot for those whose limited mobility requires close access to the building to be able to attend? As a family of faith, may we always strive to be considerate of the needs of others.

The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region and over 150 local nonprofits hope to raise $1 Million for local charities on a single day in May. The third Community Give will be held from midnight to 11:59pm on Tuesday, May 3, 2016. Our church provides volunteer and/or financial support to several of the participating nonprofits, including Micah Ecumenical Ministries, LUCHA Ministries

and Maranatha Music Ministries, and Signs of Fun.

If you plan to support any of these charities during the Community Give, you should plan to go on-line on May 3rd at www.TheCommunityGive.org or make checks out to “The Community Give” and note the charity in the memo. Please make sure to write separate checks for each charity you want to support. You can bring your checks to the church Welcome Center this Sunday where representatives from these organizations will be available to receive them. We will get the checks to the respective charity to turn in at The Community Foundation on May 3, 2016. *Signs of Fun is a place where all youth with a hearing loss have free access to communication without the use of interpreters! The camp will be held each year for one week at the Wilderness Resort, Route 3, Spotsylvania, Virginia. Here, we swim, hike, fish, and have a variety of activities throughout the day related to our theme for the week. Often we have trips and events, such as going to Washington, DC, rafting down the Rappahannock River, or spending the day at King's Dominion. Our campers vary in ages from three to eighteen. Most of our counselors are the campers that are in high school or ASL students from the local high schools. The cost to the campers is minimal for the week, which covers the cost of their t-shirts. Please contact Becky Bennett for further information.

“Here I stand, I can do no other.” – Martin Luther

A trial in the afterlife, and the prosecutor…is the Devil. In the new original play Martin Luther on Trial, Luther’s beloved wife Katarina defends him as witnesses including Adolf Hitler, Sigmund Freud, Rabbi Josel, St. Paul, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Pope Francis take the stand. Even as 2017 marks 500 years since Luther ignited the Protestant Revolt against Rome, he continues to spark intense debate. You be the judge in this witty, provocative exploration of one of history’s most explosive personalities and the religious and political controversies he unleashed. Run time: 2 hours and 10 minutes; 10 minute intermission. Last week 10 of us saw C S Lewis Onstage: The Most Reluctant Convert, produced by Fellowship for Performing Arts. It was a phenomenal presentation as was the performance we saw a few years ago of C. S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters. We have been most impressed by the productions of this group, who describes its mission as: Fellowship for Performing Arts produces theatre from a Christian worldview that engages a diverse audience. Based in New York City and founded in 1992 by Max McLean, FPA creates thought-provoking, conversation-starting theatre staged in major performing arts venues across the country. FPA’s productions include the nationwide hit C.S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters, C.S. Lewis’ The Great

Divorce, Martin Luther on Trial, C.S. Lewis Onstage: The

Most Reluctant Convert and live presentations of Mark’s

Gospel, Genesis and The Book of Acts. Ticket prices are $46 and we will plan to leave the church at 5:15 and travel to Springfield for dinner before attending the 8:00pm performance. A limited number of tickets has been reserved and we would be happy to purchase more if more folks sign up. In order to reserve your seat, the price of the ticket must be submitted in the church office. Any tickets not sold by May 10, will have to be released at that time. We really hope you will join us! Those of us who have attended have been most impressed with the sensitive, thought-provoking, credible and challenging ways the Fellowship for Performing Arts addresses materials from a Christian worldview!

May 6 5:30May 6 5:30May 6 5:30May 6 5:30----8:00pm8:00pm8:00pm8:00pm During the month of April, we have celebrated the artistic talents of two of our members: Leah and Chuck Fromer. Their art was presented in the Welcome Center on the First Friday of April and it has remained for the rest of the month. Chuck has also gifted a piece entitled, “Jordan River” to the church. We will continue giving thanks for Fromer gifts for years to come! It has been such a gift to see their work and to continue sharing with guests and members alike that this will be an ongoing celebration. For the Month of May, our artists will be Forrest McGlone with his creative spray art, and Tiffany DuBeck with her art and scripture projects. We will also have the musical gifts of Zana Kizzee on the piano for the evening. Because the First Friday is the day after Cinco De Mayo, our appetizer offerings will be of a Mexican food theme. Plan to drop by for a visit and bring your friends! Let’s celebrate some more gifts of our church family! Coming on June 3, the First Friday Celebration of Arts at FBC will feature the art of Cheryl Crane and the music of Will Gravatt.

Will Larry Get Wet or Stay Dry?Will Larry Get Wet or Stay Dry?Will Larry Get Wet or Stay Dry?Will Larry Get Wet or Stay Dry? Your Gifts Will DecideYour Gifts Will DecideYour Gifts Will DecideYour Gifts Will Decide

If you have watched championship football games, you have probably seen the winning coach be doused with a cooler of Gatorade. It has become a tradition. Well, a challenge has been issued to replicate that action and Larry has agreed to play the role of the coach, all in the spirit of helping to make up those offerings we lost on that snow Sunday back in January. Here is how the challenge will work. Special gifts to the Ministry Budget will be received that will be specified either for Larry to be doused with a cooler of water, or not to be doused. If more gifts are received specifying for Larry to be doused, then be on hand at the picnic at Pratt Park on May 18 to watch the event unfold. (If the gift total determines that Larry is be doused, the person who gave the most can choose to be the one to do the pouring.) However, if more gifts are received that specify that he be kept dry, then he will have avoided a chilly soaking. So between now and May 15th…

• Make a special gift to the Ministry Budget (which is intended to be over and above your regular gifts to help make up the snow Sunday deficit.)

• Denote clearly on your check whether your gift is to count towards having Larry drenched, or if it is to be counted toward helping him stay dry.

• And come to the church picnic on May 18th and see what the outcome will be.

Dear Fredericksburg Baptist Church, Last week the Children’s Museum of Richmond was doing a photo shoot in Fredericksburg, in preparation for the Community Give. We stopped by the preschool at your church, as one of our board members has a friend whose child was in the preschool there. Our mascot, Seymour the Dinosaur, was with us, and was really in need of a place to get some air conditioning and cold water. The sweet woman running the coffee-house-style area was so welcoming and allowed our mascot to take a break to cool down in the restrooms. I asked for some ice, and she happily provided us with some ice water and offered some tea. This came at just the right time and was such a wonderful help! As the mascot’s handler, I just wanted to say thank you very much for your church’s hospitality, and a special thank you to the sweet woman running that area! All the best, Amanda Wontz Special Events Coordinator Children’s Museum of Richmond
