2nd Grade Cole Academy NewsletterMrs. Martin and Ms. GriffusFriday, March 27th

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Take a look at the fun things we have been doing in class.

NWEA Testing: All of the 2nd graders will be taking the NWEA test at the end of April. This test tracks your child's improvement and also prepares them for the M-Step (the new MEAP) next year! We will be testing on the mornings of April 21st- April 24th. Please be sure to have a balanced breakfast and enough sleep!

Kid Town: We are starting a brand new project this year called KID TOWN! The students will start to create their own town that includes stores, restaurants, a grocery store, and even a fishing pond! We are so excited for this new adventure. To make this successful, we need some help from you so please continue to bring in materials and we are always looking for volunteers!

Spring Break: We will have no school April 6th-April 10th for Spring Break. Enjoy your time off and enjoy the outdoors!

Writing: Wow! We came up with some amazing experiments! We discovered that toy cars will travel further on tile than carpet and that larger spheres will travel farther than a smaller sphere! This is truely a class full of scientists. We are now using our amazing knowledge to write all about books. After this, we are moving on to opinion writing!

Reading: We have been learning so much! We have all been asking questions, researching, and talking about our non-fiction topics.

Social Studies/ Science: Before we move on to KID TOWN, we are taking a couple of weeks to explore government in a community. Talk to your child about our local government and how it is different from our state governmnet.

Math: Three digit numbers have been pretty tricky but we have been working so hard! We will continue to refine our skills using many adding and subtracting strategies like regrouping, using an open number line, and decomposing numbers. Be prepared to learn some new things from your child!

Enjoy the sunshine!Mrs. Martin and Ms. [email protected]/coleacademy
