SPRING INTO ART

GROWING FORWARD

Ahh…Spring! Bright days, green grass, and budding flowers inspire us to rejuvenate ourselves after a winter of soggy, gloomy days.

There are a number of new activities at the Enrichment Center this spring to help shake off the winter blahs and liven up your life. You could try your hand at art, bridge or mahjongg for the first time. Or, focus on improving your health and safety during informational seminars. Or, vow to have more fun by registering for all our seasonal parties. Just pick up the activity registration form at the front desk and check all that interest you.

Sometimes it takes a leap of faith to express your creativity in new ways. And, sometimes it helps to have an expert guide you during your first steps. Ginny Baughman holds a BFA and MA in Art Education and is a freelance artist and teacher. She has taught throughout Ohio, including 20+ years at Westerville Parks and Recreation Center, and has exhibited her work nationally. Drawing, painting, photography, sculpting, bookmaking, needlework and chalk art are some of the mediums Ginny has explored, which can be viewed at ginnybaughman.com.

Ginny’s instruction at the WTRC begins this spring. Two series of four, two-hour classes will be held on Fridays. Cost is $25 for Complete Pass Holders and Enrichment Center patrons. Students bring their own supplies from lists provided. A minimum of 10 students required.

Basic Drawing runs May 3-24 from 10 AM - Noon. Start at the beginning and learn to use your creative right brain to draw what you see. Different methods of drawing will be demonstrated and practiced until students can take a drawing from sketch to finished artwork.

Art in Nature follows June 7-28 from 1 - 3 PM. Let your artistic nature run wild while creating art influenced by nature in Countryside Park. Create a sketchbook of drawings and photos after reviewing basic drawing and photography techniques. Bring your digital or smartphone camera. Nature art will be explored by studying artists like Andy Goldsworthy. A final project will be the creation of nature artwork. Classes move into the Enrichment Center art room during inclement weather.
