Safety Functions

Sensoface electrode monitoring

Sensoface provides informationon the electrode state. The asym-metry potential, slope and responsetime during calibration are eva-luated. Sensocheck continuouslymonitors the glass and referenceelectrode.

When measuring with a Durafet

electrode, Sensocheck is not ac-tive.

For more detailed information, see chapter “Diagnos-tic, Maintenance and Cleaning” (Pg. 32).

GainCheck manual self-test

Simultaneously pressing and starts the manual unit self-test.

A display test is carried out, the software version isdisplayed and the memory and measured valuetransmission are checked.

Automatic self-test

The automatic unit self-test checks the memory andthe measured-value transmission. It runs automati-cally in the background at fixed intervals.

Outputs

Loop current

The current loop transports power to and output sig-nals from the Transmitter. The current is controlledby the process variable selected in the configuration. The current beginning and end can be set to anydesired value. To check connected peripherals (e.g. limit switches, controllers), the loop current can be manually speci-fied (see Pg. 36).

HART communication

The APT2000PH-H-.. Transmitter can be remotecontrolled via HART communication. It can be confi-gured using a handheld terminal or from the controlroom. Measured values, messages and device iden-tification can be downloaded at any time. This allowseasy integration also in fully automatic process se-quences.

For more detailed information, refer to the HART

Command Specification.

Alarm

During an error message the alarm LED flashes.Alarm response time is permanently set to 10 sec.

Error messages can also be signaled with a 22 mAsignal via the loop current (see Configuration, Pg. 23).

22

Configuration

Here the basic settings of the Transmitter are carriedout. Symbols show which parameter is being config-ured.

Activate with change parameter with and , confirm/continue with , end configuration with

Mode code “1200”

During configuration the loop cur-rent is frozen.

When the configuration mode is exited, the Transmit-ter remains in the Hold state for safety reasons. Thisprevents undesirable reactions of the connected pe-ripherals (e.g. limit switches, controllers) due to in-correct settings. The measured value and Hold aredisplayed alternately. Now you can check whetherthe measured value is plausible and specifically endthe Hold state with . After a relax time of 20sec (for measured value stabilization) the Hold stateis ended.

Calibration

Adjustment of nominal zeroCAL 1001

When measuring with a Durafet electrode, thenominal zero point must be adjusted each time anew electrode is connected. This is important if youwant to obtain reliable Sensoface messages.

The Sensoface messages issued during all furthercalibrations are based on this basic calibration.

Activate calibration by pressing the key.Using the , keys entermode code “1001” and then press.

Place the electrode in a pH 7.00buffer.Using the , keys enter the cor-rect pH value in the range pH 6.50to 7.50 for the actual temperature(see buffer chart).

Press to confirm.

If the zero offset of the electrode istoo large (more than 200 mV),the CAL ERR error message will begenerated. In that case the elec-trode cannot be calibrated.

Stability check:measured mV value is displayed

The stability check can be abortedwith . However, accuracy ofthe calibration will be compromised.

At the end of the adjustment theslope and asymmetry potential(based on 25 °C) of the electrodeare displayed. These are not thecalibrated values of the electrode! These must still be determined us-ing a complete 2-point calibration(CAL 1100).

The procedure is ended with. The Transmitter remainsin the Hold state. You can now re-install the electrode and end theHold state with . After arelax time of 20 sec (for measuredvalue stabilization) the Transmitterreturns to measuring mode.

After having adjusted the nominalzero point, be sure to calibrate theelectrode following one of the pro-cedures as described on the nextpages.

Sensoface , Sensocheck

Sensocheck can only be appliedwith a glass electrode. When aDurafet electrode is used, Senso-check is not active.

Sensoface provides informationon the electrode state. The slope, asymmetry potential and responsetime during calibration are eva-luated. Sensocheck continuouslymonitors the glass and referenceelectrode. With Sensocheck

turned off no appears.

Three Smileys provide information on wear and re-quired maintenance. However, the unit can still de-termine the measured variable and output it via theloop current.

The worsening of a Sensoface cri-terion leads to the devaluation or of the Sensoface indicator.

An improvement of the Sensoface indicatorcan only take place after calibration or removal of anelectrode defect. is only displayed when Senso-check has been activated.

The condition for accurate informa-tion is proper calibration.

The electrode adjusts slowly. You should consider replacing it. It may bepossible to achieve an improvement by cleaning or, in the case of anelectrode stored dry, by “watering”.The electrode adjusts very slowly to the measured value. Correct mea-surement is no longer ensured. The electrode should be replaced.

The voltage which a pH electrodegives off at a pH of 7. The asymme-try potential is different for everyelectrode and changes with ageand wear.

Contains selected buffer solutionswhich can be used for automaticcalibration with the Calimatic

feature. The buffer set must be se-lected prior to calibration.

Solution with an exactly defined pHvalue for calibrating a pH meter.

Adjustment of the pH meter to thecurrent electrode characteristics. The asymmetry potential (zeropoint) and slope are adjusted. Ei-ther a one-or two-point calibrationcan be carried out. With one-pointcalibration only the asymmetry po-tential is adjusted.

See Buffer set.

Automatic buffer recognition. Be-fore the first calibration, the bufferset used must be activated once. The patented Calimatic then auto-matically recognizes the buffer solu-tion used during calibration.

Adapter integrated in the protectivecap of the Durafet electrode. Here, the signal of the pH-sensitiveFET is converted to a voltage corre-sponding to the signal of a glasselectrode. This voltage is led to thepH input of the Transmitter and isprocessed further as usual. The adapter is directly suppliedfrom the Transmitter.

Combination of glass and referenceelectrode in one body.

Durafet combination pH/ORPelectrodes consist of an ISFETmeasuring electrode, a referenceelectrode and a temperature sen-sor. A cap adapter provides a pHsignal similar to a glass electrode toallow connection to any conven-tional pH meter.

Is indicated in % of the theoreticalslope (59.2 mV/pH at 25 °C). Theelectrode slope is different for everyelectrode and changes with ageand wear.

See Asymmetry potential.

Meredian combination pH/ORPelectrodes consist of a glass or me-tallic measuring electrode, a refer-ence electrode and a temperatureprobe. They include a permanentreference junction and gel fill formaintenance-free operation.

Preset four-digit number to selectcertain modes.

Calibration with which only the elec-trode asymmetry potential (zeropoint) is taken into consideration. The previous slope value is re-tained. Only one buffer solution isrequired for a one-point calibration.

A pH electrode system consist of aglass and a reference electrode. Ifthey are combined in one body, they are referred to as a combina-tion electrode.

Time from the start of a calibrationstep to the stabilization of the elec-trode potential.

Sensocheck continuously moni-tors the glass and reference elec-trodes. The resulting information isindicated by the Sensoface indica-tors.Sensocheck can be switched off.

Sensoface provides informationon the status of the electrode. Thezero point, slope and response timeare evaluated. In addition, theSensocheck information is indi-cated.
