PART A :

Keeping in with the guidelines given by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council,

the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the Department of Education,

Patna Women’s College chalked out the following plan of action to be implemented from July

2011-June 2012.

The Department must ensure satisfactory levels of quality in education imparted to the

teacher trainees by providing maximum opportunities of curricular and co-curricular

activities such as ICT integrated teaching-learning, peer teaching, simulated teaching,

assignment based teaching, self learning, workshops, seminars, guest lectures, research

projects, alumnae meet, sports meet, and participation in various cultural events.

Mentoring system and remedial instruction to continue.

Practice-in-teaching in two blocks and Internship Programme.

Community service: Environmental Awareness and Health and Hygiene Programmes,

Blood Donation and Celebration of ‘Joy of Giving Week’.

Inter College Debate Competition and Inter School Sports Meet.

Strengthening the functioning of the Placement Cell by establishing and consolidating

linkages with the local schools and keeping track of the alumnae. Campus interviews to be

conducted.

Research potential of the teachers to be promoted. Research Cell to be established.

Bi-annual newsletter ‘Disha’ and a magazine of the Department to be printed.

Teachers to take up minor research projects.

One National level seminar sponsored by UGC.

We were successful in implementing more than 95% of the chalked out action plan. The rest of

them are in the process of actualization.

PART B :

Q.1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution.

In an effort to make the utmost use of the available resources, opportunities and

capabilities, the various activities conducted at the Department are geared to bring about

the holistic development of every individual.

Value based morning assembly, value-based classes for the students at regular intervals,

regular Holy Masses and Theology classes for the Christian students, participatory

learning approaches facilitating maximum teacher-taught interaction and self learning,

simulated as well as real teaching experiences provided to the teacher trainees in form of

practice teaching and internship, group activities and competitions every month, a

learner-friendly environment in which the teacher trainees plan activities and execute

them to the best of their abilities, emphasis on innovative teaching-learning

methodologies, technology integrated teaching-learning, yoga, meditation, games and

sports, discipline and community service programmes develop global competence among

the teacher trainees and reflect the goals and objectives of this premier institution.

Q.2. New academic programmes initiated (UG and PG).

The Department of Education, offers one year B.Ed. programme. In the year 2011-12, no

new programme was initiated. However, the Department continued to offer two

Certificate courses to the teacher trainees - Certificate Course in Communication and

Soft Skills and Certificate Course in ICT based Teaching-Learning Skills.

Curricular transaction through maximum involvement of teacher trainees. Access

to broadband Internet facility, Smart Class and Multimedia Class provided to

them to prepare and present their lessons.

Q.4. Inter-disciplinary programmes started.

The Department has started inter-disciplinary programmes with the various departments:

A Certificate Course in Communication and Soft Skills was offered to the teacher

trainees in collaboration with the Departments of Mass Communication (BMC) and

Communicative English with Media Studies (CEMS) of the College. A workshop on

Low-cost No-cost Teaching Aids in Physical Sciences was conducted in collaboration

with Department of Physics of the College. The Department of Education lays a special

emphasis on Environmental Conservation. In this context, a Herbal Garden is maintained

in collaboration with the Science Departments of the College. Besides, teachers from the

Departments of Political Science, Sociology, Philosophy and Zoology were invited to

judge competitions such as Nurture the Nature Contest and Wall Magazine

Competition.

Q.11. New collaborative research programmes.

UGC has granted Patna Women’s College, ‘College with Potential for Excellence’ status

under which the students are exposed to research. This year, the teacher trainees of the

Department participated in three research projects under the CPE scheme of UGC:

• Prerna Bharti, Priyanka and Ira Priyadarshini: An Assessment of Level of

Integration of ICT in Schools under the supervision of Ms. Babli Roy, Asst.

Professor. They bagged the first prize.

• Shalini Sahai and Supriya Ghosh: Attitude of Students towards Elimination of

Board Examination from Secondary Schools under the supervision of Dr.

Madhumita, Asst. Professor.

• Shivya Sonal, Amrita Singh and Sujata Kumari: Impact of Yoga & Meditation

on Anxiety of School Children under the supervision of Ms. Anju, Asst.

Professor.

A Research Cell has been set up in the Department. The cell worked to carry out an

‘Environmental Awareness Programme’ for eight government and private schools of

Patna. This programme was conducted in four rounds extending over a period of eighteen

days from 25th

April – 12th

May, 2012.

The students of the Department of Education participated in the Blood Donation

Camp organized by the Department of Home Science, Patna Women’s College and

Holy Family Hospital, Kurji on 13th

December, 2011.

Joy of Giving Week was celebrated in which students shared their things with the less

fortunate ones.

On the occasions of special significance like the feast of the Institution i.e. Carmel Feast,

Christmas etc. gifts and sweets collected through generous gestures of the staff and

students were distributed among economically needy and socially backward students.

Clean Week Campaign was conducted by the B.Ed. students during their internship in

various practice teaching schools with a view to spread awareness about cleanliness and

solid waste management.

Environmental Awareness Programme with the aim to motivate, empower and help

the young minds to realise their potential as effective activists for raising environmental

awareness, as well as be champions of knowledge, with positive attitude towards the

environment and competency in citizen action skills was organized by the Department

of Education. The IX Grade School Students from All India Boards (ICSE & CBSE)

and Bihar Board, studying in Patna District participated in this programme.

Steps are being taken to computerize the above mentioned processes.

Four computers with dual code processor have been installed in the Administrative

Office for the various administrative works. Trained office staff has been hired for the

administrative work.

Information about the admission, examinations, results and other notices are uploaded

on the Departmental website www.pwcbed.org.

The Department organized an Alumnae Meet-2012 on 13th

February, 2012 where the

previous batches were invited by the current batch to share their experiences and to relive

their memories. Their expertise helped the current batch in making their perspective

career choice. They contributed actively and enthusiastically in fund raising for various

departmental activities.

Q.31. Activities and support from the Parent – Teacher Association.

No Parent-Teacher Association as such but Parent-Teacher meeting regularly organized

in the Department. Parents were invited for the Annual Day Programme on 13th

April,

2012. On this day the Parents had ‘one to one meet’ with the Teachers.

Q.32. Health services.

A Health Care Centre has been set-up in the department. The Centre has facilities for

providing First-Aid, and the required rest for the sick. The seriously injured sick are taken

to the nearly hospital. The department also possesses a well equipped gymnasium to

provide healthy living.

Q.33. Performance in sports activities.

The Department of Education did not organize any major sports event for the Teacher

Trainees. But the Teacher Trainees, under the guidance of the Teacher Educators,

organized a Sports Meet for the students of the Practice Teaching schools. All the events

were planned and conducted by the teacher trainees. They participated in the March Past

for the opening ceremony of this Inter School Sports Meet.

Q.34. Incentives to outstanding sports persons.

The department has provision for granting attendance to a student participating in sports

events during class hours.

During Sports Meet, they are awarded trophies, shields and medals.

Q.35. Student achievements and awards.

Puja Jain (2010-2011) secured the second position in the Patna University

Examinations. She was awarded the Dr. Madan Mohan Jha Memorial Excellence

Award for Bachelor of Education.

6 ranks among the top ten in the Patna University Examinations, 2011 were

bagged by the teacher trainees of the Department.

Prerna Bharti, Priyanka and Ira Priyadarshini were awarded the first prize for

the research project titled ‘An Assessment of Level of Integration of ICT in

Secondary Schools of Patna and Its Implications for Teacher Training

Institutions’, under the CPE Scheme of UGC - 2011.

Shalini Sahai was awarded the Best Speaker in the Inter College Debate

Competition organized by the Department on the topic ‘Corruption in a system

is unavoidable’ on 30th

November, 2011.

The dance group from the Department won the 1st prize in the Holi Dance

Competition conducted in the College.

Q.36. Activities of the Guidance and Counselling unit.

The students were divided in small groups. These mentoring groups had a

teacher-in-charge. The mentors met the mentees once a month in order to provide

guidance and help to the students. Apart from this, teachers are always available for

personal guidance for those who need help and guidance.

Ms. Anju is the Placement Officer for the Placement Cell. Campus interview for

February, 2012.

The Principal and the faculty have participated in conferences organized by them in

different parts of the globe.

These opportunities have given an awareness to decide the priorities to be focused on,

in education today and also have expanded the territory of working of the faculty.

30.11.2011: Inter College Debate Competition organized by the Department on the topic

‘Corruption in a System is Unavoidable’. The first position was bagged by

Patna Women’s College, the second position went to Mirza Ghalib Teacher

Training College, Patna and Women’s Training College, Patna stood third.

The Best Speaker (for) was Ms. Reemana Adil, student, Mirza Ghalib Teacher

Training College and the Best Speaker (against) was Ms. Shalini Sahai, student,

Patna Women’s College.

01.12.2011: On the occasion of WORLD AIDS DAY, a special activity highlighting the

disease and the plight of the patients.

Department for the students of local schools of Patna.

The teacher trainees have done remarkably well in the Patna University Examinations 2011.

Besides, the Student Cabinet is very active and successful. They work in close co-ordination with

the teaching staff. There is a Grievance and Redressal Cell for the students so their difficulties

and suggestions may be attended.
