Welcome to the 50th Anniversary of Lake Stevens Aquafest! It has been an honor to serve with the outstanding 2010 Aquafest Board and we hope that our efforts make this the best Aquafest to date.

The 2010 festival planning began in August 2009, and with volunteered time and through generous donations, 2010 Aquafest will have some new additions including onsite recycling, Facebook and Twitter networking specialists, new local sponsors, fresh events and entertainment and many free, family friendly options.

Aquafest is excited to have participation from our new Navy neighbors. This year, we are able to provide military discounts for weekend Carnival passes.

What would a 50th Anniversary be without some history?

Joyce Bell, the 2010 Aquafest Grand Marshal and 30 year Aquafest Board Member, will lead the Grand Parade at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 24.

The Children’s Parade and Proud Pet Show, followed by Movies in the Park will kick off Friday night, July 23, and the Aquarun, Celebrity Softball, Free Horse Drawn Carriage Rides, Cove Entertainment, Boat Parade, Car Show and 60 other sporting and cultural events will continue as in years past.

Visit Aquafest.org for event schedules and updates, to sign up for Facebook and Twitter and to view the 2010 Aquafest Commercial.

There is something for everyone at 2010 Aquafest!

Our goals for the “Fabulous Fifty!”

Message from the 2010 Aquafest President

Aquafest Anniversary are simple: If you have been a part of Aquafest in the past, we welcome you back and hope that we make you proud to live in beautiful Lake Stevens.

If this is your first Aquafest festival, join us, and you’ll see why people set aside the last full weekend in July every year.

And lastly, if you have time and talent to share, we ask that you get involved. Future festivals depend on the ideas and resources of our community to continue to grow.

Again, it has been my pleasure to serve as your 2010 Aquafest President. Enjoy!

This is a fun wacky way to spend time on a lake. The object is to win a sailboat race using minimum value resources to do it. Participants have built their boats entirely with materials worth less than $50. In the past boats have ranged from pool floaties to masterpiece creations of 2 years on the building. We’ve had calm winds (necessitating paddling) and we’ve had perfect sailing conditions (gentile breeze.) We’ve seen boats sink and seen

boats reassembled over and over while the race is underway. The race begins at noon on Sunday, July 25th from the downtown boat launch with a tow out to the starting line because this is planned as a downwind race.

Once all the boats are in position the race begins. Trophies will be awarded immediately following. New this year is a “Kids” category. See www.aquafest.org and click on events for details.

The fireworks show begins at about 10 p.m. on Saturday night, July 24 and is always a spectacular sight. Bring a blanket and lawn chairs down to North Cove Park for the best viewing, or catch the show from just about any vantage point around the lake. Colorful explosions will light up the night sky over the lake for a 10 to 15 minute show.

The fireworks are set off from a dock

towed out into the cove from the Lake Stevens boat launch. You can also watch the fireworks from your boat, but for your safety and that of the fireworks technicians, please maintain a 500 foot clearance from the fireworks dock, a rule that is enforced by the Lake Stevens Police, Sheriff’s Dept. and Coast Guard.

Fireworks sponsored by: Tom Thumb Grocery and Pioneer Square Texaco.

Start your Aquafest weekend with pancakes at the fire station! Lake Stevens Fire is hosting their annual pancake breakfast at the downtown fire station, 12409 - 21st Street NE, during Aquafest weekend.

It’s all-you-can-eat pancakes hot off the griddle, with ham and eggs on the side on both Saturday, July 24 and Sunday, July 25 from 6 a.m. to noon.

The cost for breakfast is simply a donation.

The Firefighters’ Pancake Breakfast has become a tradition well worth repeating for both Lake Stevens Fire and the Lake Stevens community.

Come one, come all!

The horse drawn wagon rides are back again this year. Be sure to come to the City Hall parking lot and get in line. Each trip takes about 15 minutes and there is plenty of room for the whole family. You can watch the happenings on the lake while cruising in the wagon down Lakeshore Drive. And remember, the rides are free to the public. The horses do like carrots however. Photos are welcome, and the kids can pet the horses.
