Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, & Lebanon all invaded the new Jewish State

War mostly fought in what was to be Palestinian territory--leaving many Palestinians homeless & forced to live in refugee camps

ISRAEL WON and the Palestinian State was never formed

1948-67

SUEZ-SINAI WAR1956 Israel invades Egypt & takes over

the Sinai Peninsula

Goal was to make room for the French &

British to come & take over the Suez

Canal (connects the Mediterranean Sea

to the Red Sea)

It worked!

1957 the UN took over the Sinai Pen.

Six-Day War1967 Egypt kicks UN off Sinai Pen., amasses

tanks in near the border, & begins blocking

Israeli ships in the south

Israel launched a preemptive strike on Egypt--

Syria & Jordan join against Israel

When it’s all done--Israel has control over the

Sinai Pen., West Bank, East Jerusalem,

Golan Heights, & Gaza Strip
