The world will get further acquainted with the remarkable progress of the oil industry in Kuwait, as well as the positive steps to protect the environ- ment and realize sustainable development, Sheikh Faisal added in a press statement on Monday. Taking part in Expo Milano 2015 aims at enhancing the Corporation’s presence on the world scene through reviewing the substantial progress by the Kuwaiti oil industry, in addition to its contributions regarding social responsibility to achieve sustainable development, Director of Public and Media Relations at KPC Jamal Sanousi said. Kuwait is partaking in Expo Milano 2015 that kicked off on Friday through a huge delegation representing almost all the state institutions. Al-Juhaym expressed pride that he is participating in the six-month global event that kicked off on May 1. Referring to his project, he noted through Barayeh he is seek- ing to “make a difference for the good of the Kuwaiti society through improving the quality of life and challenging the hard nature.” Al-Juhaym said he inspired the project from Kuwaiti ancestors, saying the old Kuwait city was built on two main basis, safe environment and job opportu- nities. KUNA Chairman and Director General Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij Al-Ibrahim Al-Sabah and CEO and Managing Director of ANSA Giuseppe Cerbone signed the agreement. The signing ceremony was attended by Kuwaiti Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah who is on an offi- cial visit to Italy for Expo Milano 2015, and Kuwait’s Ambassador in Rome Sheikh Ali Khaled Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Lauding the accord, Sheikh Salman said he hoped it would contribute to promoting the KUNA’s performance, especially on news exchange, developing the editorial sector and presence overseas, benefiting from ANSA’s experience and long history, established in 1939. In a statement to KUNA, the Minister said that the Kuwait News Agency could also use experts from ANSA to upgrade its technical performance. In the meantime, the Italian agency would benefit from the accord to expand in the region. Sheikh Salman highlighted the “fruitful” last visit by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to Italy and the agreements concluded during it, especially cultural and media ones. He hoped that the KUNA-ANSA accord would help achieve a quantum leap in the Kuwaiti agency, by efforts of Chairman and Director General Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij Al- Ibrahim Al-Sabah, and the whole staff. For his part, Sheikh Mubarak noted that cooperation between the two agencies dates back to more than two decades, referring to the bilateral memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in 2007 to establish the first strategic partnership of its kind between Arab and European news agencies. Today’s agreement will organize exchange of news, photos and data, as well as facilitating missions by correspondents of each agency, giv- ing priority to coverage of national occasions and state officials’ visits, Sheikh Mubarak said. He invited ANSA’s CEO and Managing Director Giuseppe Cerbone to visit Kuwait to complete the executive details of the accord, and explore more prospects of cooperation. “The accord with KUNA, which renews agreements already in place for several years, boosts our international presence. And we want to be operational with immediate effect,” Cerbone said. “With this agreement we want to strengthen our presence in the Gulf region, where there is an economic interest, due to the Italian compa- nies that invest there, as well as a political one,” he added. During the signing ceremony today, KUNA Deputy Director General for the Editorial Sector Saad Al-Ali and ANSA Editor-in-Chief Luigi Contu, reviewed the activities of the two agencies, professional policies and plans, in addition to means of bolstering bilateral media partnership. The ceremony was attended by KUNA Public Relations and Marketing Director Essam Al-Ruwayeh, and officials from Kuwait’s Ministry of Information and the National Council for Culture, Arts and Literature (NCCAL). On Saturday, Sheikh Salman in his capacity as Representative of His Highness the Prime Minister, opened the Kuwaiti pavilion, “Challenge of Nature”, at Expo Milano 2015. The Expo was inaugurated on Friday by the Italian Prime Minister, with the participation of large world dignitaries including Sheikh Salman.
