GENERAL INFORMATION

SPRING HAS ARRIVED!

The end of the year is coming but arc

keeps going! In order to make sure we

have the extra set of eyes and help for

upcoming events, we have the new

Assistant Site Coordinator, Keshawn

Coney. Here are a few words from him:

My name is Keshawn Coney & I am the

new arc Assistant Coordinator. I am 20

years old so not far from your age group,

but don’t let that fool you! I am an adult

ready to help whenever ready! I know a

good amount of Fairley’s past because I

graduated from Fairley High!

Right now I am majoring in Computer

Engineering and have started my own

company. With my few days of working

at arc and Green Dot I have really

noticed the changes and improvements

they have made into the school that

weren’t here when I attended. The

arc after school program is really a

game-changer that is well-needed here

because when I attended this high

school, there was nothing to do but get

in some trouble.

With so many options to do now, I hope

most of you take advantage and become

involved after school! I’m still working

on improving my communication skills

so I can connect & network with others

so don’t hesitate to say hello and tell me

about yourself! I’m glad to be back and

give back to Fairley and my community!

Keshawn is here usually from 11am-

4pm Monday through Friday! He will be

great help for the upcoming events we

have planned for the Fairley students!

Get ready! We want to make these lasts

months memorable!

DO YOU REMEMBER THE TIME DANCEFor Black History Month, the arc Lead Team decided to

have a dance with DJ Lil Robert! Students were allowed

to change clothes and show off their style arriving in their

outfits! The dance floor filled with students as they were line

dancing, free styling, and enjoying all of the music in the

cafeteria.

“First of all, they had food. I was very happy about that. The

music was great and the crowd had a lot of energy. It was

a good turnout overall,” Nicholas Greer, senior, describes.

Nachos and refreshments were served and as students ate

their food they went around reading the decorations which

were banners created by the arc Lead Team of important

Black Leaders and inventors. The arc Lead Team usually

discuss and choose what food, decorations and information

they want to share with their peers and together, they make

it happen. Thomas Edmond, Freshman, says, “I am very

happy to be with arc because arc helps me find… my inner

self… the happy side of me!”

There have been requests to have more dances and in

order to show we hear the student voices, two more dances

have been planned! The events through arc are always free

for all the Fairley Students so come and check them out!

The arc Lead team needs to hear the voices of the students

and they will make sure to plan the event!

LET’S MAKE IT MEMORABLE!The arc Lead Team wants to make sure events are

happening to make your final months at school fun and to

keep you motivated to do well! There are upcoming events

being discussed that will be led by the team as well as

collaborations with Student Council and Leadership! Here

are a few:

OPEN MIC NIGHT

Take the Microphone over and express what’s on your

mind. All spoken word pieces will be accepted. You can

come to the arc Center and sign up or attend the “Writing

Bulldog” Course in Rm 215 on Wednesdays in order to put

your spoken piece on paper and practice for this event.

Final day to sign up is April 14th.

“I’m happy to be helping with the ‘Open Mic Night’,” says

Kristian Robertson, a freshman on the arc Lead Team. “I

feel very important and I’m happy to be working with arc.”

END OF COURSE CELEBRATION DANCE

May 8th

Let’s “turn-up” on the dance floor with DJ Lil’ Robert for

completing and doing well on the EOC exams! There’s a

catch though: Need to be at all EOC tests, need to wear

your uniform all week, and no bad behavior all week! Do

you think you’re strong enough to handle this? Show off, let

Admin and staff know you deserve to have fun by making

this happen!

FINAL TALENT SHOWCASE

May 16th

Our classes will have a final showing, but we want to have

a talent competition. Categories are the following: Dance,

Singing, Instrumental, Rapping & Special Talents. There will

be judges and prizes for the first place winners! Mark this

date and sign up with arc today!

arc will also be collaborating with either Student Council

and/or Leadership to make the following events happen:

Come out on this day and let’s make the school and

community around are campus clean and beautiful! This

also gets you community service hours so sign up with Ms.

Berry or arc.

A Plate Around the World • April 25th

This happens right after the community clean-up! What a

way to celebrate community service! There will be free food

from neighboring businesses, information about different

countries, Lil Robert playing music and more! Don’t miss

out on this great event!

Aaliyah Strong, freshman says, “I liked the DJ because he

had all of the young people music…”

SPRING FLING DANCE

and celebrate the warmth of spring! It’s free and after school

so it’s easy to get there and work those moves!

Come let the arc Lead Team know what you want. We meet

on Fridays after school at the arc Center!

015 APEX CREDIT RECOVERY

Do you know what is required to graduate from high school?

Subjects like English, Math and Sciences must be passed

for seniors to graduate! If the student does not pass any

semester, they need to retake the class and they better

believe that the non-passing class will come back to haunt

them their senior year if it’s not taken care of before that

time. arc has brought an extra opportunity for the students

to make up these classes through APEX Credit Recovery.

What’s special about this session? There are extra teachers

available to help with any subject if the student needs

it. “Having four teachers in one room for APEX is much

more effective than having simply one teachers. Students

including myself, are able to get almost immediate help with

an activity and other teachers may know something that

one might not. APEX overall is a “credit savior,” Shaniqua

Mattison, Senior, states about the course. APEX runs

until Mid-May and is helping about 25 students. Once

the students complete the subject chapters and hours, it

becomes a passing grade and they will not have to worry

about it anymore! To find out more about these classes, see

Ms. Wortham, the APEX facilitator or stop by arc and see

the Site Coordinator!

PREPARE AND PASS!Ready for the EOCs and AP exams? Well, there are

ways to prepare with arc’s help! What are EOCs and

APs? Well here is a brief description:

EOC (End of Course)

According to the Tennessee Department of Education,

the End of Course Exams (EOC) are given in subjects

like English, Algebra, Biology…etc.at the end of the

semester. This score will count towards 20% of the

students’ final grade.

AP (Advanced Placement)

These exams represent the culmination of college-level

work. Only those students taking AP classes should

take the AP exam. If the student passes they get

college credit and it also tests the students’ ability to

perform at a college level.

There will be weekend and after school courses to get

extra practice and prepare for these exams. College

counselors or arc will have the forms to save your spot.

Students can pick one up and turn it in to counselors or

arc. Classes start soon so prepare and pass!
