Two New Environmental Projects Launched at ArcelorMittal Zenica Jul. 9, 2012 ArcelorMittal Zenica, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, has started to implement two major environmental projects at its blast furnace and coke plant.

The aim of the blast furnace project is to substantially decrease pollution, improve environmental conditions and improve working conditions for employees. The project involves the installation of a de-dusting system within the cast house to reduce hard particles and pollutant emissions by almost 95%. The cost for the installation is €6 million. The project begun in January 2012 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2013.

In the coke plant a new charging machine will be installed within the next year. The cost of this project is close to €3 million. The charging machine will be completely automatic and will enable a significant reduction in pollution from the coke plant. The new project will meet the requirements of “dustless coal charging” with the aim of reducing solid particle emissions from 140 grams to less than five grams per ton of coke.
