fell in love with a Jewish lad.

ANSWERS:

1) It is a celebration of all Christian saints, particularly those who have no special feast days of their own. 2) The first evidence was during the time of Pope Greg-ory III (731-741) and then Pope Gregory IV authorized All Saints Day in 835 AD. 3) It is a day we pray and remember all the faithful de-parted who are believed to be in purgatory.

“Teach him the Virtues of Catholicism,” counselled her mother. “Make a con-vert of him!” “That’s just what I will do,” promised the girl and she set to work with a will that very evening.

The Jewish lad proved an easy convert. He waxed more and more enthusiastic as the days went by. Suddenly, however, one day before the wedding, the bridegroom called all bets off. “What happened?” cried the distracted mother. “I oversold him.” wept the girl. “He wants to be a priest!”

All Souls Day (SOURCE: Springs of Living Water NOVEMBER 2019)

On this day (November 2), traditionally known as ‘All Souls Day,’ the first reading speaks about the rewards of God for the souls of the righteous. According to the author, the physical death of a person is not the end of life. In reality, it is the beginning of another existence in the presence of God. Our physical life undergoes a time of trials and torments. It is even harder for those who make a right-eous living. For some, it may be constant, while for others, it may be for a time. It is a testing like gold in the fire but the result is something precious. The test can come in any form of suffering, sacrifice or in any kind of challenge in life. What counts is one’s endurance during those difficult times. The author in today’s reading is quite optimistic in relation to the fate of the righteous people. God rewards the souls of the righteous with peace, immortality, blessings, worthiness, care, grace and mercy. The Church has allotted this day to pray for all the departed souls. As weak as we are, it is our desire that each soul receive the rewards of the righteous. As we pray for all the souls, we also remind our-selves that though we return to the dust from which we were made, God has created us in his own im-age and likeness. And therefore, if that which comes from dust goes back to dust, that which is made in the likeness of God, goes back to him. May the trials and temptations of this world not diminish our love for the living God, but may we over-come all of them through his Son who triumphed over death itself. For, God raised him because he was truly righteous!
