WINTER BREAKDue to Humble ISD’s new “winter break”, there are no CCE classes scheduled this week (Sunday, February 2nd - Wednesday, February 5th ). Our classes will return on Sun-day, February 9th at 3pm; Tuesday, February 11th at 6pm ; and Wednesday, February 12th at 6pm in the St. Paul Cen-ter. “Super Sunday” session #11 for our high school youth is scheduled for next Sunday, February 9th from 5pm - 8pm; we will be talking about the significance and role of the Church in the modern world. This is “cold & flu season”- so, if your child is sick, they MUST be symptom-free for a full 24 hours before attending class ( just like school ). Thank you for help-ing us keep everyone safe and well!
2020 Confirmation CLASS There is no Confirmation class this week - Wednesday, Feb-ruary 5 - due to “winter break.” We will return next week with a weekly Confirmation session on Wednesday, February 12th from 7pm - 9pm in the FLC. If you need to drop off the $185 weekend Confirmation Retreat fee, you can pay at our Wednesday night class with cash or check; credit card payments must be made in the Parish Office during regular business hours. More details will be sent home in the coming weeks regard-ing the weekend Confirmation Retreat on February 21 - 23. Please be praying for our candidates, team members, clergy, and the Forest Glen staff.

Sacrament Preparation for 2019 - 2020Parents who have not turned in their child’s Baptism and First Communion certificates will NOT be sign-up for a First Communion Mass at the February sac prep class (without that paperwork, we don’t even know if they are Catholic)! Students who need to be interviewed, or re-interviewed, for Confession should contact the Formation Office to schedule an interview time immediately. The second prep class for Eucharist is coming up on Monday, February 10th (6:00pm - 7:30pm) for the “A” group… the “B” group will meet on Monday, February 17th. Breaking Open the Word for Families The Feast of the Presentation of the Lord by Ginger Herrignton
* Reading 1: The Lord will come suddenly to the Temple. The prophet Malachi speaks of the Lord coming to the Temple to refine His people as metal is refined – by fire. He will pu-rify people with “fuller’s lye” – highly caustic material that burns away impurities. And why will He refine His people? That they may offer proper sacrifice. For none of us is pure enough to stand in His Presence unless He helps us. God sent Jesus, the Lord, to the Temple; He will baptize us with the fire of the Holy Spirit. If we are not purified enough in this life, God in His mercy allows the refining process to be completed after our death in Purgatory. This is truly a mercy. We cannot stand to be in His holy Presence unless we have been purified. Thank God for His mercy in pro-viding for us theWay, the Truth, and the Light: Jesus Christ. Follow Him. * Reading 2: Because Jesus suffered, He can help us when we suffer. In this letter to the Hebrews, we have the comforting news that our Savior has become one of us in all things but sin. He, while remaining fully Divine, was also fully Human. He experi-enced all of the things that you and I experience. There is nothing we cannot bring to our merciful Savior. He Himself has tasted how weak we can be, how sorely we can be tested. Bring all of your joys and sorrows, all of your challenges and suc-cesses, all of your faith and doubt to the Lord. His merciful gaze will heal you. * Gospel: Simeon saw the Lord come suddenly to the Temple. Simeon had been promised by the Holy Spirit that he would not die until he had seen the Savior. Of all of the babies brought into the Temple that day, Simeon perceived that Jesus, the babe in the arms of Joseph and Mary, a poor couple, was the long-awaited Savior. May we, too, have the eyes to see Jesus! See Him in the Blessed Sacrament, where He is truly Present Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. See Him in His hand-picked friends, the priests. See Him in the gathered assembly at Mass. Hear Him in the Words of Sacred Scripture. See Him in the lonely, the old, those in pain, those who are excluded. See Him in the kindness of others; see Him when you are loved.

The Office of Social Concerns is in the process of expanding its hours to become a full-time ministry. Hunger/Poverty is on the rise in our community. This includes “working class parents.” These families earn low wages and struggle to provide for their children on a daily basis. After the rent, hotel fees, and utility bills are paid, very little money is left to purchase food, clothing, and medical care. Can you help? Beginning in February/March Magdalene House will be expanding to Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. We are in the process of developing two teams. Vol-unteer Opportunities include: Intake/Casework, Kitchen/Stock-room Prep, Bread & Meat Grocery Store Pickup. A fun way of supporting Catholic education is the Step for Students 5K run/walk that will be held this year on Saturday, February 15 in Downtown Houston at 8:00 AM. Blessed palms from years past should be burned. Other par-ishes collect old palms to burn and use for their Ash Wednes-day services. At St. Mary Magdalene, we do not need your old palms because we use professionally-made ash which has better consistency. You can dispose your old blessed palms by burning them and then return the ashes to the ground.

Volveremos la próxima semana con una sesión de confirmación semanal el miércoles 12 de febrero de 7pm - 9pm en el FLC. Si necesita salide la tarifa de retiro de confirmación de fin de semana de $185, puede pagar en nuestra clase de los miércoles por la noche con dinero en efectivo o cheque; los pagos con tarjeta de crédito deben realizarse en la Oficina Parroquial durante el horario comercial regular. Más detalles serán enviados a casa en las próximas semanas con respecto al retiro de confirmación del fin de semana del 21 al 23 de febrero. Por favor, oren por nuestros candidatos, miembros del equipo, clérigos y el personal de Forest Glen.Tenga en cuenta que solo se permiten dos (2) ausencias en nuestras clases de confirmación de miércoles. Los estudiantes que necesitan ser entrevistados, o reentrevistados, para la Confesión deben comunicarse con la Oficina de Formación para programar un tiempo de entrevista inmediatamente. La segunda clase de preparación para la Eucaristía se acerca el lunes 10 de febrero (6:00pm - 7:30pm) para el grupo "A"... el grupo "B" se reunirá el lunes 17 de febrero. Se requiere que un padre y el estudiante asistan a la sesión. Trae tu libro azul a la clase. Clase de Confirmación 2021 Si usted es el padre de un estudiante de 9o, 10o u 11o grado que NO está participando en la clase de Confirmación 2020 y ha perdido la reunión obligatoria de orientación de confirmación 2021 el viernes 24 de enero... habrá una orientación de maquillaje el viernes 17 de abril a las 7:00pm en el Family Life Center (FLC). Revisaremos nuestro calendario de confirmación, las pautas parro-quiales y responderemos todas sus preguntas acerca de este poderoso sacramento. Un padre DEBE asistir; los estudiantes son bienvenidos a estar allí, pero este evento es principalmente para padres / adultos.
