South Campus DormitorySyracuse, New York | Design collaboration with J. Suarez
The project called for a newly designed dormitory for the south campus of Syracuse University. The initial design concept was generated from a malleable parti model. The concept was to have a ground floor of public program understood as one band with the dormitory above as a separate band. The public program consisted of a cafeteria, lounge, gymnasium, theater and study. The crossing of the two bands offers zones of outdoor/indoor conditions for communal gathering spaces.

The design concept began with the idea of a circulation alley-way that ran through public zones of program. It evolved into an idea of distinct programmatic bands, one for public program at the ground floor and one of dormitory rooms above that overlap and intersect one another, creating interstitial spaces dedicated to gathering.

The project called for a new science museum situated at the exit of the Uffizi Gallery and next to Palazzo Vecchio. The brief stated that the generator of the project was to be an architectural translation of a scientific instrument at the Galileo Museum.
The Nobilis double Sparking Magnet is a device that creates and stores energy through the gyration of a central core conducting piece that creates and breaks a circuit connection with the two magnets. By translating this instrument into the site, the science center acts as a circuit connection between the Uffizi and Palazzo Vecchio. Through the implementation of a surface that can be digital, manipulative, interactive and informative with a circulation sequence that mimics the idea of an oscillating core, the center can become a flexible mode of display, a malleable environment that constantly engages the user and stimulates all modes of thought.
Florence is often understood as a museum city, where preservation of the historic city fabric is of upmost importance. The idea of the science center was to preserve the existing language and order of the city while modernizing the interior through the use of technology, where display becomes an informative spectacle.

HUDSON YARDS HOTELSNew York City | Design collaboration with Z. Goldstein and S. Reynoldsconnecting the High Line to the 7 train
7
The proposed 7 train extension and phase three of the High Line intersect at Hudson Yards, creating an opportunity to connect these two infrastructures. The challenge of the project is understood sectionally, where the subway stop and highline are separated by more than 100 in height.
Within Hudson Yards are the Javits Center, New York Citys convention center designed by I.M. Pei and the newly proposed Hudson Yards Development consisting primarily of large residential apartments. These elements, along with the High Line and 7 station offer multiple facets of design with regards to user groups and program.
The designed intervention was of five hotels ranging from one star to five star, connected by a common sky lobby with commercial program below. In order to mask the depth of descent from the high line to the 7 subway platform, trees were inserted throughout the path within the plazas as well as in the stairs themselves, creating a green trail among the typical concrete city surroundings.

early schematic designSite is in-between the Javits Center and the Hudson Yards Development where phase three of the High Line will terminate. Early schemes looked into primarily athletic programs, pedestrian circulation patterns and the experience of arriving at the structure via subway.

five hotel schemeThis final scheme transitioned from three hotels to five hotels while maintaining the idea of the sky lobby and the green descent. The hotels range from 5 star to 1 star, where the height of each hotel is representative of the demand in New York City. Window sizes dictate the star level of the hotel.
