The citadel from Ineu is a XVII century A class historical monument

belonging to the late Renaissance architectural style. Due to lack of fonds

and carelessness, the bui lding is in a bad state, being degraded and

abandoned. Altough being demoted, i t connues to represent a landmark

for the populaon.

The Concept

The project aims to resurrect an uninhabited and unused building by

making i t a Museum and Center for Conferences and Contemporary Art.

What does a muse um mean today? It is a l ively space belonging to the

city. It is a space which vibrates with acvies ranging f rom temporary

and permanent display stands to cafes, restaurants, conference halls,

library; we can even see it as a cultural mall.

The hal f berr ied conference volume oers a funcon which was impossib le

to shelter inside the stronghold`s walls and constantly creates angles and

perspecves of the old ci tadel. Thus the citadel i tsel f becomes a display

unit in space, not just a display box. The amphiteatre which is being

supported by the conference hall`s roof i s a place for watching outdoor

movies and mapped projecons on the ci tadel`s walls. The volume is the

result of the desire that the bui lding shouldn`t be an obstacle in observing

the citadel.

Basic intervenons l ike roong the small court or redesigning the towers

interior wi l l emphasize the special character of the citadel`s interior .

Analysis starts form an urban scale. At this

level it is easy to recognise the 3 monolithic

blocks of the neighbourhoods along via

Rigopiano. To improve l ife quality in the

neighbourhoods i t was necessary to obtain a

more heterogeneous space. Therefore the

Concept of the new neighbourhood

-how to break the 3-rd box-

In our proposal we tried to p lay with the height dierence of the

site and to create publ ic spaces for the people who l ive here. A

virtual grid was laid down giving dimensions to a new urban

paern. This wi l l animate the publ ic zones with new funcons,

materials, new pathways. This public spaces are ment to be

themac places, where people can meet, interact, dance in the

street or l i sten to a musical or theatre performance.

About the site

The site is a corner plot which is located in the historical

center of the city, at the intersecon of Emil Isac street with

Pavlov street,and the Canalul Mor ii.

The building wi l l have comercia l spaces at the groundoor

and apartments for the rest of the oors. The apartments wil l

be of d iferent typologies, with 1-2 rooms, simplex or/and

duplex.

About the landscape

The site is located in the area of the naonal parc Cheile

Turzi i , in the vi l lage M.Viteazul. The terrain has a slope

between 10%-16% and is very close to the Hajdatela stream.

SINGLE FAMILY HOUSE IN A SAXON VILLAGE *

location: Seica Mica, district Sibiu, RO

About

The target of the project i s to respect the typology of a saxon house of Seica Mica, but to use a contemporary language. To do this, it

has been necesary to make a fu ll analysis of the vil lage, of i ts tradional saxon values, costums, l ife-philosophy, but also an analysis of

the shape of the vi l lage, the structure, the prole of the streets , types of plots, volumetric typologies, decoraons, materials, and a

lot of others. The purpose of this analysis was to build an archetype, that is specic saxon.

The Concept

A saxon house is a long house, made l ike a sequence of rooms and di ferent funcons, starng with the more publ ic ones, that have a

connecon to the street and ending with a barn. Having the archetype as a startpoint, we proposed the separaon of the funcons

in home-units. These units are connected to eachother with passways and green spaces. So, the most publ ic funcon, the home-

oce, i s in relaonship with the street, coming up next the stairway, the l iving room, the kitchen and the garage at last.

SKYSCRAPERS*

location: Abator place, Cluj-Napoca, RO

The Concept

The projects sets up a typical urban gure of our mes.

We tried to create a volume that increases and

decreases, this way the inseron of the two 25- levels-

high towers won`t be too agressive.

The 2 towers are connected through a semicircular oor,

that creates a b ig open space in front of the comercial

spaces and beauty center. The towers have a central

node with 3 arms.

The towers seem to rotate, actual ly they don`t, there are

a few levels that change their volume.

The same feel ing of rotaon is given because of the

windows that change their posion from a level to

another.

SKATING RINK FOR INTERNATIONAL COMPETIONS *

About

The ice-r ink wi l l have to accomodate compeons of

naonal and internaonal level, with a capacity of 3000

places at the tribunes. The rink wi l l be used for both,

hokey and ice-skang compeons. It wi l l have a exible

schedule for a professional ice-skang school and ice-

skang for leisure.

The Concept

the volume: the appearence of the mall wants to express the

funcons that are inside the mall : a warehouse in the hipermarket

area and a h igher and more organic form for the leisure and sport

facil ies. These are connected with eachother through the big

volume of the atr ium.

The cultural-tur iscal center wants to put in

value the jewisch her itage. The new proposed

volumes wi l l encompass and put in value the

exisng synagogue, keeping the memory of the

place. Another target of the project is to give a

coherent appearence to the street front.

About

Cluj-Napoca ci ty-hall and The Faculty of Architecture and

Cityplaning organised a compeon for new kiosks in the ci ty

(with newspapers/cigare es/books or owers).

The proposal for the new urban furniture wil l be a local

landmark in the neighbourhoods or the center of the ci ty.

The Concept

transparency, owers as an exhibit, as a part of the kiosk, of

its image; the wooden texture, the variety of exhibion

places, n ice appearence both at day and n ight.

About

Il Circo lo Canoeri is a pake-boat bui lding specic for

the ital ian Art Deco of the `30-s,. It shelters the Canotaje-

club and i t used to train gymnasts of o lympic level. For

this reasons it has both an architectural and sen%mental

value for the ci ty of Pescara.

The target of the project was to map the build ing, to

make analysis, to d iscover the physical and b iological

problemes of the building, and step by step to restore i ts

ini%al image and to propose solu%ons for its salva%on.

Concept

The most important concept was to restore the ini%al

image of the building and to make it func%onal for the

requirements of the 21. century.

We have 2 proposals, one of them is more conserva%ve

and the second is more daring, trying to introduce the

NEW into the OLD.

I wil l present the second proposal.

For the ground level we

propose to reestablish the

sporve funcons. For this

reason we rebui ld the

swimming pool , but without

covering i t; and also try to

connect beer the

basketbal l court with our

area. We use d ierent

pavements, for the dierent

sports: brick oor laid on

edge at the swimming zone,

large stone pavement from

the kayak zone ( f rom the

stair that leads upstairs),

slag for the sport court, and

smaller stone pavement for

the coe zone. The bui ld ing

tries to focalise al l these

funcons, therefore these

"enters" into i t, shown also

by the inner pavement. The

enclosement of the build ing

at this level is structural

glass. The panels are held

by metalic device, anchored

into the exisng columns.

a cae on the terrace. In order

to be able to use it in dierent

weather condions, and a lso

for the enlightment of the

intervenon, we proposed two

transparent glass boxes. It is

made on l ight metalic structure,

and it is also possib le to open,

by turning the glass panels

around their vercal ax (the

metalic column).

URBAN RESTRUCTURING *

location: URSUS area, Cluj-Napoca, RO

Targets of the cityplanning proposal

-The replacement of the industria l acvity URSUS, that is

located inside the city, close to the histor ical center, with

a new housing complex, oces and hotels.

-to create a new connecon with the city, by marking the

Uzinei Electrice street, that wil l connect 2

neighbourhoods with the ci ty center: Gr igorescu and

Manastur. This street wants to receive the character of a

boulevard.

The Idea to group the similar acvies in diferent areas

Car acces is possible on secondary streets that leed to

the back of the bui ldings, to the underground parking or

to the parking above ground.

Pedestrian acces to the housing b locks is possib le both

from the main street and from the center of the housing

complex, on al leys that includes a green space.

FURNITURE FOR CHILDREN *

The Concept

What do children th ink at? Most of the mes, the whole

univers of a ch ild revolves around his table and chair where he

eats, writes, draws or paints.

Starng from a basic shape, the cub, we designed the main

furniture of a child`s univers: the table and the chair.

MAPPING A PIECE OF FURNITURE

location: History Museum, Cluj-Napoca, RO

professor: conf.dr.arh. Dorina Vlad

The piece of furniture is part of the her itage of

the History Museum of Clu j-Napoca and was

donated by Ms. Wass O l ia. It belongs to the XIX

century, the Louise Phil ippe style. It is stained

in black colour.

It is a shel f for books with 2 levels, made of r,

plated mapple veneer. It has a rectangular

shape. The upper leaf has marquetery and the

two levels of shelf are rounded at the corners,

surrounded by brass appl ied ornaments and

jo ined by turned legs (balusters). On the upper

leaf there is a polished brass rai l ing, and in the

middle of it we nd a marquetery of Boulle type.

The shelf is provided with a drawer that has on

the sidewal l an ornament represen ng the

mo ve of the tree of l ife. The ornaments are

made of ora l and geometric e lements. O1en
